The only person that can stop an addict from taking drugs is themselves, dr Phil got it wrong, if she's willing to leave rehab to get a fix then he should let her go cause she's obviously not ready to stop and the same goes for all addictions

@idontsignin Right on. Most people tend to think " Oh, well they just need to gain some will-power and stop." Well, I am a Heroin addict. I can say from years of personal experience that addiction is an endless struggle. The way your body and brain honestly beg for it and no matter how hard you try, your thoughts are constantly turning to that drug.. it wears on you and breaks you and leads to hopelessness.
@Diacetylm0rpheen nobody can tell you to get off the gear, it has to be down to you, but all i can say is i hope you get off it 1 day, there are treatments out there, fair enough methadone is a substitute but you still need serious will power and probably a spell in rehab. but dont let it get the better of you, i know its hard from experiences ive had with other addicts. when your ready to give it up youll know and dont let anybody tell you otherwise, do it for you, i wish you all the best.
@idontsignin Well, thank you very much, sir. I have tried Methadone maintenance, but the physical addiction is greatly increased due to the fact that your body never gets a break from the Methadone.. Due to daily dosing and it's very long half-life. Basically, the withdrawals are much, much worse. The program did work well for me, until it began causing me health problems. I just recently did 97 days in an inpatient treatment.. the longest I was able to stay.
@idontsignin I just started hanging out with the wrong people.. exactly what you are NOT supposed to do. I eventually succumbed to temptation. The Heroin right now is better than ever, along with the Cocaine and I am finding it as hopeless as ever trying to quit. Heroin in itself really doesn't lead to any long term effects or brain damage. Only in the case of overdose will real, permanent brain damage occur. The black market created by our government's attempts to control our lives is what hurts the people who use Heroin and other highly addictive substances...

@stepjess1 He doesn't have a clue about addiction. I have spent months and months in Recovery centers, detox, and I can tell you first-hand.. Forced recovery does not exist. Not every addict is incredibly stupid. A lot, however, are. Most of the addicts I know, including myself, are highly educated and very careful and tedious with their Heroin usage, and preparation of the drug. I definitely do see where you are coming from, though. You're right, on rare occasions the aggressive method works.

Vveinarvv- that's incorrect. U cannot die from heroin withdrawl. It's extremely uncomfortable. It can cause serious depression leading to suicide, but the withdrawals themselves are not deadly. Unless say u have some preexisting medical condition. But then its still not the withdrawals themselves. It's a combo of things. U might WISH they could kill you, but they won't.

I just looked up some pictures of these 2 now that they are clean from a follow-up interview. And I've gotta tell ya, now that these girls are clean, THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! I got on suboxone at first without insurance and had to pay $7 per pill for 90 pills per month plus Dr. fees, which cost a lot per month just to stay clean. I've since gotten great insurance which allows me to get all my suboxone for free and I have a lot of extra suboxone scripts left over. You can't reason with a druggie. Unless you can find some sliver of a sober moment and maybe you can reach them. This system sucks because most of the time, the addicts have the choice of treatment, and often bail on clinics. If the clinics could just keep them there till they're well, more lives would be saved. But this system really sucks :(

Well for one, addiction is not a disease or any form of illness, it's completely different.
Actually even once you have built up a physical tolerance (addiction) it is completely up to your willpower to stop, you still decide your choices and actions in life regardless of what drug you put in your body.
And yes, willpower is almost 100% what people use to stop addiction.

Hah! Dr. Phil is pathetic when it comes to opiate addiction. He's got it all wrong. Worst case scenario: he makes them temporarily quit & when they relapse they overdose. (A very common occurrence, especially with the "tough-love" approach).
Takes a recovered opiate to help one. When will people learn this? Opiate addiction is quite different than other addictions.

Vveinarvv- that's incorrect. U cannot die from heroin withdrawl. It's extremely uncomfortable. It can cause serious depression leading to suicide, but the withdrawals themselves are not deadly. Unless say u have some preexisting medical condition. But then its still not the withdrawals themselves. It's a combo of things. U might WISH they could kill you, but they won't.

@ rooflee It is quite obvious that you have never gone through any kind of addiction yourself, which is great, but since I have I do feel somewhat obligated to tell you that it isnt so much of a physical thing as it is mental.When you have an addiction your hormones as well as brain and body chemistry tend to throw themselves out of balance which leaves one with intense cravings for things that are not necessarily good for them,but it really is a hard thing to withdraw and get away from.

I just looked up some pictures of these 2 now that they are clean from a follow-up interview. And I've gotta tell ya, now that these girls are clean, THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! Their faces are cleaned up, they don't look like corpses, they look sophisticated, well dressed, nice hair, they look FANTASTIC!!! It makes me real happy to see them living well :)

Hey everyone, I too am an opiate addict. I was using IV heroin everyday for over 4 years. I got on suboxone at first without insurance and had to pay $7 per pill for 90 pills per month plus Dr. fees, which cost a lot per month just to stay clean. I've since gotten great insurance which allows me to get all my suboxone for free and I have a lot of extra suboxone scripts left over. I am willing to help anybody out who wants to get clean but doesn't have the funds to do it. Send me a msg, thx.

You can't reason with a druggie. Unless you can find some sliver of a sober moment and maybe you can reach them. This system sucks because most of the time, the addicts have the choice of treatment, and often bail on clinics. If the clinics could just keep them there till they're well, more lives would be saved. But this system really sucks :(

Well for one, addiction is not a disease or any form of illness, it's completely different.
Actually even once you have built up a physical tolerance (addiction) it is completely up to your willpower to stop, you still decide your choices and actions in life regardless of what drug you put in your body.
And yes, willpower is almost 100% what people use to stop addiction.
