  • @mrsadsexy perv much?

  • @jasontimmer where did you get the infrared LED's?

  • Comment removed

  • That's pretty clever! Even though it was purchased as a disposable, can you use it more than once? Cool.

  • can u upgrad the night vision camera to support x ray vision ?!

  • CAN I DO THIS WITH 2 CAMERAS?

  • at around 0:43, he knows how pain in the butt feels like...fag

  • cool stuff jason!

  • That's pretty badass. Nice work.

  • Good work. Even though you had to shoot with another camera. Impressive. You should take the same LED system, and make one for your normal camera. Just as a night shot camera.

  • how hard would it be to use these cams like this BUT pull all the guts out and rebuild it inside a tube so it would resemble a scope? even if the power had to be wired in... or configured like an Aimpoint CompM4?

  • also, does anyone now a way to place the screen closer to my eye?

now its about 7 cm away(that would be about 2 inches) i want it to be 1 inch away.

cant i put an extra lens in place?

  • @kiddy1992 Get a lens assembly like you'd find in an old VCR recorder, it should get your eye closer to the screen. You can probably find one at a garage sale or goodwill, etc.

  • if you remove the IR filter, dont replace it with a piece of film.

just leave it clear so you can use it by day and night.

with nothing in front of the sensor you get every light possible.

  • Hey um silly question about one of these cameras. I want to use this sort of set up to make a head mounted night site for paintball and such, but I don't know if these camera's function the way I think they do. Can it just have the screne on and look around without recording and using the camera up? I don't want to use it for taking video, just the camera itself to look round with the screne.

  • You really cute Does the hack make this a camera that you can use all the time? Im not sure what a one use camera is.Great nigt vision video. How can we make it a security cam that criminals cant see with a motion sensor?Nice lady who needs home security.

  • i think you solder the wires onto the pins of a palm series m100 connector or wutever

  • what size IR LED,s did you use ???

Great job im impressed with the job you did .

  • the bad part is that you cant wear it like a pair of googles! is still a very cool update to record !

  • good job mate :)

  • flip ur ugly

  • where can i get the infa red LED lights from and how much are they each??

  • i got 50 of ebay for 3.50 hav a look

    jhowden020495

  • @theabcman838 go onto amazon.com i got a phantom lite off there that goes 50ft with my old camcorder that i have done no work to. They run at about $44.00 and can last 12hrs strait off of 1 9v battery

  • How much does an infrared LED cost???

  • depends if u buy them in bulk... if u buy them individualy it can be a dollar but if you buy them in a hundred pack they can be like $0.07 each american...

  • I think i saw some hi intensity IR leds at radio shack for like a dollar each... or less...

  • bout 1 or 2 bucks or 50 cents :)

  • £6 for like 200

  • you can get 20 on ebay for 20 bucks

  • 70P each - or 50p for cheap ones

  • EBAY i got 50 for £3.50

    jhowden020495

  • THanks~~ much was one IR LED? cuz i need some inexpensive ones.... one more favor, can u send me the LED arrangment? THX!~~

  • i have a question, which is, where did u buy ur IR LEDS? cuz i got mine at RadioShack but they dont work haha so HELP ME!!!! PLZ thx~~

  • reynolds electric. google it, but looks like their site is currently under construction.

  • @newbieSTFU

    dealextreme. com

  • very nice video jason im really excited to try it. now i can find the 420 farm in the dark...hehehehehyou look like the kid from star trek...NG

  • were did you by that camcorder???

  • i would buy 1 off u if u could make 1

  • if all LEDs go out, it means that it a series circuit. Because they are continuesly connected and if one o the leds goes off it breaks the circuit for the other ones

  • yeah, for saying out loud....but still you're not the original first.

  • Very good!!

  • leds are connected in serial if all go out when one goes out

  • u probably mean parallel

  • Comment removed

  • No, in series, if one goes out, all in that series go out.

In parallel, they all get the same voltage without sharing, so if one goes out, the others stay on.

  • i know that--that guy just messed me up so i used the wrong word, my first comment is true.

  • Can i make one and use it for my 3.2mp cell phone that does not have night shot at all but it will still look like a night vison camera on the screen. or should i buy this cam and then make the IR lights?

  • how the heck do i get the ir filter out mine is like glued on?????

  • try gently prying it off with a pocketknife. It's also possible that yours is painted onto the lens, in which case you might try acetone or something to dissolve it off.

  • some cameras just have this built into them i know mine does

  • Cool project.

Having used conventional NV before I can tell you that these are much better. Even the cheapest digital camera with IR filter removed outperforms most generation I and II NV scopes. The regular scopes give you extreme tunnel vision not to mention a headache. They are also delicate and expensive a good unit can easily cost $2K+. This you don't have to worry about losing or breaking. Only draw back is they need batteries which makes digital NV unsuitable for some military uses.

  • fucking hell. Thats amazing

    nice one

  • you could of just bought one from Japan

  • but it's so much neater to make it. seriously, I MADE a night vision device. that beats buying it by a long shot.

  • can you please give me a link to where you buy the cvs camcorder? I can find it.

  • so why can't the normal camcorder pick up the infrared light? when he showed the device and turned it on all the lights appeared bright white. that would lead you to think it should be able to see it reflecting off of the surrounding area just the same as the small device itself...

  • because most camcorders have an IR filter, I was surprised to find that the camera I was filming with did not.

  • Here you go Jay,this is the IR camera lighting kit i made for the Sony camera

  • i have a security camera with night vision and it has LED's that are supposed to be infrared...and it does see in the dark like its supposed to,but you said with your LED's you cant see any light coming from them...but on my night vision camera i can see red coming from the LED's...is it really night vision if you can see the red coming from the LED's? i cant see it like a regular flashlight but i do see red coming from them when they are on.

  • IR devices let off a dim red glow. :/

  • yeah, the red glow is normal for lots of devices. it depends on the wavelength of the IR- the closer it is to visible light, the more glow you'll see. but really, red is the least noticable color in the dark. no one's gonna see it unless they're looking for it.

  • Now this is just plain wonderful. Have you ever considered selling these devices ? Are you survivalist motivated or tech motivated ?

  • I replied to your PM on selling. I guess I'm both survival and tech motivated, as you can see from my other videos I have a variety of skills and interests, plus I'm an RN so that gives valuable medical know-how. Somehow I guess in the back of my mind I felt I would see the day when the "shit hits the fan" if you will. I like to think I'll be ready. As far as tech goes, this was one of my first projects after I taught myself how to solder.

  • where did you get the infrared LED?

  • rentron daht cahm (i have to spell it like that because youtube fuckers wont let me put urls in here.) they have great, high power infrared led's. check them out.

  • wait.. isnt pararell... suppose to be if one goes out still work? becuaase i thought series was the one that says one goes out then all goes out...

  • i might have mumbled a bit- I wired them in parallel so that if 1 goes out they dont all go out

  • kk i under stand

  • well done dude!

  • thanks

  • Holy Crap Dude...Thats Brilliant !!

  • What i did was put a shit load of infa red on my airsoft sniper l96 scope and so i could see in the dark and then put infa red on my friends guns when we played airsoft at night . I took out 5 guys:)

  • So I bought some eyeclops nvg's and pulled them open. so far I have replaced the narrow field lens with a 90 degree spread lens for a wider field view. The lens they come with gives you severe tunnel vision. The next step is going to be replacing the high output irled's in the upper array with some super high output irled's... mmm fun

  • awesome. post any info on how you did it?

  • I just bought a pair of eyeclops night vision goggles. It's a kids toy that works on the same principle, but I bet I can add some of my high-power IR led's and double the range. I'll post a vid soon of the modifications I'm making to it.

  • how much would u sell it 4?

  • how much you wanna pay?

  • Where the hell can you buy them ive been looking for AGES

  • isnt that the kid from Star Trek: the next generation?

  • dude where can i get a disposable camera and how much are they

  • its braniac on g4

  • So apparently, there's a new product out (google eyeclops night vision) that is quite similar to my device, built for mass production. I guess someone beat me to it. I suppose my obvious course of action from here is to buy one of them, and modify it to perform as we all expect it to. Stay tuned!

  • Holy shit. Its John Tickle. Go on walk on custard.

  • could you please enlighten me as to WTF you're talking about?

  • I'm just messing you look slightly like the character John Tickle in the tv show Brainiac. He was famous for walking on custard during one episode. Other than the nv was cool.

  • Wow- I guess I'm behind the times. Never heard of the guy. Apparently, from comments on youtube and those from coworkers and friends, I have a rather common appearance. I'm sure I can find a way to make this work in my favor...

    Thanks for the comment.

  • yea it was a science show where they put stuff in micro waves for fun and did alot of experiments involving women in bikini's :)

they also had a competition to open a safe with $ 2000 inside ... the British army tankers won with a 120 mm Armour piercing round. ... the cash was unfortunately was melted

  • Freakin McGyver...lol

  • lol, how many times do we have to forgive you for the crappy quality lol, nice vid lol

  • dude, like, a dozen, at least. ;)

  • hehe

  • can thest cvs cameras be focused so it can see close up videos, if I decide to mod one.

  • they have a kind of auto-focus, I don't think they could focus too well on anything less than a foot or two in front of them.

  • can you post instructions on your channel or put a txt document on mediafire...then send the url for it.

  • nah, I'm way too lazy for that. Just do what I did- use your brain and figure it out with the help of the internet. The Oracle!

  • You said the IR LED's were wired in parallel, so that if one goes out the all go out. That is wrong. that would only happen if they were mounted in series.

  • you must have misunderstood me. I said they are wired in parallel so that if one goes out, they don't all go out. granted, it is still a big pain in the ass to change out an led when it burns out, but thankfully that hasn't happened since my greedy experiment of overclocking them with 9 volts.

  • dude i love it ty ty im gunna try it but ty

  • i will try this some day

  • i want to make 1. i think i know how but it would end up crap. i might just buy 1. i'll give it a try first.

  • .. for me.. I wouldnt have the patience to do this and also know that i will fail many times... and would cost me probably 400 dollars to finaly get it right which still would be crappy and even though i have all the materials... ill just use 500 dollars to buy a company made night vision set ...and be satisfied.. i am sure it alot more rewarding

  • Yeah, of course it's always more rewarding to do it yourself- it's really not that hard, do a little research and give it a try. You could make a far less complicated one than mine that is still functional. Give me a PM with any questions if you want to make your own!

  • Top effort!

  • Thanks!

  • Great work bro!

  • Thank you

  • wired in parallel? pain in the butt.

Whole project? A fun pain in the butt. ^^Thats not right.

  • AH haha! That's some funny shit man. Yeah, it was a pain, and also loads of fun.

  • nice camera...

  • nice video

  • thanks

  • Great vid man, :) look forward to watching your other videos

  • thanks

  • it looks really hard to make. but i think i cud mayb pull it off if i had the rite tools.

    thank you for the vid!

  • yeah, it was a lot of work. give it a shot!

  • all the tools I used are very easy to obtain. A dremel tool with a few different bits, a soldering iron, and some basic hand tools. The biggest obstacle to this project is cost, which is still very modest if you have access to the tools. If you have to buy them, (which I did, but can afford) you're looking at 150-200 dollars. Still cheap for night vision, let alone one you built yourself!

  • very nice work.

  • thanks!

  • Very good. I want 2. And such the small size of the thing. I bet they have those cameras here in Europe too. ( I hope :|

  • probably somewhere. i got mine off the internet, just look around.

  • Nice Video !!!!! Very Informative !!! THX !!

  • youre welcome. thanks for the comment.

  • please tell me where to buy one

from internet i live in australia

  • I don't remember, it was a while ago. You just have to do some research, look around online and I'm sure you'll find it somewhere.

  • How many LEDs do I need to produce the best night vision .THanks

    Bong

  • I used 8. The more the better.

  • Thanks I willit. In the Philippines ,i bought cheap IR LEDs around Php7.00 each. 1 USD 40-1 Peso.Any other type?

  • I think the more expensive the led, probably the higher quality.

  • thanks. it worked.

can i increase the voltage to 9 volts for optimized illumination?thanks again. it really worked 5 stars

  • no, dont do that. i tried it and it just burned the LED's out in a few minutes. stick with 1.5 volts.

  • ok thanks again :D

  • Can you tell me what to type in on digikey and what to click on for the LED's.Thanks!!!

  • it wasn't from digikey, it was from rentron dot com

  • What is the power of your LED's?

  • A quote from the manufacturer:

The TSAL6100 infrared LED is the most powerful 940nm IRLED we carry, and a prime choice for long distance applications. These are T-1 3/4 [5mm] size, have a very powerful IR output @100mA [ min 80 - 130 typ mW/sr ]

They run great on 1.5 volts.

  • what is an infrared LED?

    and what does it do?

  • LED- light emitting diode. Infrared ones emit infrared light that is invisible to the unaided human eye but can be seen easily by infrared enabled cameras.

  • ohhh, its cuz i thought it was to see in red and see other ppl or stuff in white like thermic vision, but i got confuse, thanks

  • Hi how much does cost? These are T-1 3/4 [5mm] size, have a very powerful IR output @100mA [ min 80 - 130 typ mW/sr ]

They run great on 1.5 volts.

    Thanks

    MOre power to you

  • They're about 75 cents each

  • tanks

  • You betcha.

  • Can I just look at the screen and not record, because it only has 20 min on it?

  • well, you don't have to record if you don't want to, but these cameras are hackable if you find the right software on the net. You can make it so you can record, offload the vid to your computer, and record again. Just look around.

  • Did yours already have nightvision on it? And did you connect the LED's straight to the double batt's or did you use a resisto? And did you use 3 volts to power the LED's or just 1.5 volts?

  • Yeah, I converted it to have nightvision. I didn't use a resistor, the LED's are powered separately by a single 1.5 volt battery. I thought that using 3 volts would increase the output but I found that it only greatly decreased the life of the LED's.

  • update man :P last night i finally opened my cellphone and actually removed the filter, I haveto say it was quite an easy job =P i placed a sharp knife in one of the sides and getly tried to push under the filter.. to my surprise it went out very softly, I thought it'd pop out :P at least that saved me the fear of damaging it xD now it rests safely in my toolbox at home ^^

I might post a video at night check it out tomorrow ;)

  • Sounds good. Keep me posted.

  • so did you take out the IR cut filter or not?

  • yes I did. You have to in order for it to see IR.

  • thats really cool man!

  • thanks

  • guess that all I need to do is get those leds and.. ta-da! night vision gadget for almost nothing! xD

I will catch up later when I do the "negative film" trick with my HP camera's filter ^^

  • hey man, it's been a while =D

Before I tried to open my cellphone I told myself a while ago, "why not try it with my PDA's IR transfer?" after all those things must have an IR led to send and a photo diode to receive data... well, it turned out that my cellphone has some different kind of filter that allowed it to watch the IR light blink as it transferred data to another cellphone, while my HP camera couldn't see anything coming out of my pda :P

  • When you take the camera apart, there's a clear plastic post on the front that carries the light from the supplied LED. You could cut that off, paint it, or color it with a sharpie to make it neater. Also, how long ago did you buy yours? I can't tell if I have a sprayed-on IR filter or if it's hiding behind the lens like yours. I bought mine from CVS about 2 months ago.

  • With that clear post, what I did was cut it off and plug the hole with some rolled up electrical tape. As far as your IR filter, I bought the camera about 6 months ago. It's possible that your IR filter is deep within the lens assembly like it was mine, you have to pry the first lens out (you can throw it away) and then get to the filter. The camera still works fine with that first lens removed.

  • meant to say 'much' not 'mach' :P *typos hehe* btw, I have seen some guys play around with their moblie phones, the SE P900 sems easy work, not like my t637 though, I haven't even opened it :P

  • Yeah, I'd be afraid to open my cellphone unless I had a backup. Besides, the resolution is so shitty on them these days that it hardly seems worth it, I don't think it would really be practical. Plus, if you don't have some kind of device to funnel the light right into your eye, you're spewing light out everywhere and you might as well use a flashlight.

  • Hey jason, nice video man. I quickly searched ebay and found a CVS one time use camera for 35 bucks + shipping. I couldn't get a good sense of the quality yours potentially displays, so let me ask. In your opinion, what kinda of clarity range can you get? I like the elaborate IR led display as well, I would now like to build one :P

  • I wouldn't go for the ebay camera, the CVS website sells it too, though it's hard to find, and I think they sell it for $29. As far as clarity and range, the resolution and clarity is pretty good, definitely usable even with a magnifying lens in front of it. The range on my device is about 40 feet. The trick is to use many, high-powered leds. The ones I used were from Reynolds Electronics website, I bought a couple dozen of their highest powered lights so I could experiment and burn a few out.

  • P.S. I think the site is rentron dot com.

  • cool, found it man, and they even ship worldwide, which is good news for me =D

About the camera... hmm I can't get the CVS camera I guess :P I live in chile, so I doubt they'll ship that outside US & Canada... But I have 2 HP 318 xi which are a bit old (2.1mp besides, not actually mach), from which I can crack open one, the other one's in use by my mother. Do you have schematics / plans / blueprints on how you built the leds part, and a how to to remove the filter?

  • Sorry, no. The best I can do is pictures of the led array. If you PM me your email, I can send you the pics, though I don't know if they'll be much use to you. Do a search for how to do parallel wiring. As for the filter, it will probably be the only red-colored piece of glass in the whole lens assembly, probably close to the light-sensing element. Good luck.

  • by the way.. for those interested on how to build the IR device, kipkay's got a video on how to build them, he also shows how he modified a video camcorder to apply the IR mod

  • sorry for the ignorance jason, but when did the IR filter thingie started in the cameras? I have a webcam from year 2k.. thought it probably wouldn't have filters

  • Not sure, I remember when some camcorders had night vision on them that would allow you to see girls underwear in daylight... they fixed that pretty quick, probably has something to do with the IR filter. That was several years ago.

  • Great video...

    You have mail, Jason.

  • Great video!

    You have mail Jason.

  • cool ;)

  • hey is this good on spotting ufo's

  • UFO's? I don't think so, not enough range for that kind of thing. Sorry.

  • you might want a telescope for it... but about the mod... IR leds don't have that much range.. definitely

  • How did you make it see IR

  • You have to remove the IR filter in the lens assembly. Do some google searches, there's lots of information on it. With the newer CVS cams, you end up having to remove a convex lens behind the IR filter to get at the filter. When I first did this, I thought I ruined the camera, but it still works just fine.

  • Anyway, the IR filter is a small piece of glass with a reddish tint to it. Open up the camera (or almost any camera, esp. webcams) and look for the lens assembly. Usually it's really easy to remove, but CVS has made it a big pain in the ass. But trust me, you can completely remove the lens closest to the sensor, and the camera will still work just fine.

  • cool man, um one thing is how much did the infrared leds cost
