I'd love to be able to take this seriously, but I can't. Repetitive, unimaginative and blatantly sentimental - I can appreciate the attempt at 'hopeful melancholy', but Richter goes way too far here. Too obvious and violent to be adequately minimalistic, yet too simple to be anything 'more'. As a film score this would probably be quite effective, but as a purely audial experience barely so-so.
@Adaviri This is first and foremost a score. It was specifically written for a ballet. It is "blatantly sentimental" for a reason; he wasn't trying to be subtle.
I can think of a time that the Earth will have days this short and this precise. Days that will overwhelm you with satisfaction of sincerity. Days that are whole and not forgotten. Days with events parallel to the joy that this bestows. Days with elements as light a feathers. Days in which love and passion are the counter balances. ...THEN "LAST DAYS"!
It blows my mind how such repetitive melodies can be so mind-boggling beautiful. I never heard of Max until I was listening to one of my favorite composers (Josh Kramer) on iTunes one day and a genius recommendation came up for Henry May Long. How did I live without this awesome music so long?!
There is something both hopeful and sad about this song. Words rarely do a melody justice, but in my crude attempt to interpret verbally I shall say this: Beautiful and haunting...
I saw Max Richter and his quintet perform this earlier in the month and was so moved by it. They played with such beauty, I sat in the front row, holding my breath.... And they all rocked the Converse hi-tops. Hell yes. that's just how Richter rolls.
@Haremma Thank you :-) I think everyone should have Max Richters Music at Home. Would make the World a more peaceful Place.....ps: Your Channel sounds nice :-)
