I think 'fault" is more close to "culpa" "mea culpa" = "my fault" = "mi culpa " ("fault" responsibility for a mistake or misdeed; culpability)...("guilt" responsibility for a criminal or moral offence deserving punishment or a penalty)...("sin"t he condition of estrangement from God arising from such transgression) there is the difference.
