I'd like to see China top of the world, but I am afraid that will not be possible no matter what. The reason for this is that we all know how bad and evil communism was and China, like Cuba, North Korea or Vietnam, is just the left-over of a collapsed system.

I agree. But its important to study China closely. Its demographics alone make it different from the other communist states. And whilst totalitarian, it is an unusual mix of both communism and capitalism. Shanghai for instance resembles Tokyo, New York and London in many regards. The China of today is a very different country from the dark days of Mao. It remains repressive but it cannot be compared to North Korea for instance and I think it will gradually move towards democracy.

Dissidents are still jailed for peaceful protest, censorship is widespread and it remains a one-party state but in 2012 it will see a new 'generation' of leadership probably headed by Xi Jinping. That generation may be the equivalent to the glasnost era in the USSR. As China becomes more powerful, it is likely it will open up even more and with that it will have to improve human rights. It is a great country and has the potential to be a great democracy.

In History, Southern China, the Canton area of Qangdong, qangxi, and people from Cantonese heritage belonged to Yue (yuet= Viet) kingdom. @AzerChristians! look at China history, the South and Cantonese were not part of China until Manchu and Han tried to inter-married and slowly took over the area. Vietnamese today are the remainders of original Yue ethnic. There are still many NanYue ethnics people in South China speaking old Vietnamese language. The US couldn't do that in 10 years in Afghanistan and Iraq. So we were doing a lot better and more superior in tactical warfare.
