It's rare that I see these people getting any help on these TV shows that take advantage of their psychological problems to sell ad time on a cable network. They give them a few counseling sessions which they never show, and then jump on them with a "professional organizer", shoot the show and leave. I don't see them addressing the core psychological problems that are the root cause of the behavior at all. How about revisiting some of these patients six months, a year later?
This dude broke his leg and now he is a hoarder? My dad LOST a leg, and he takes care of himself and doesnt try to sit around feeling sorry for himself
@ScurryMurry Your dad doesn't have a psychological problem then. Good for him. So what? Are you saying because your dad doesn't have this specific problem, that nobody else should have it either? Ridiculous viewpoint.
@ScurryMurry Good point. This tells me your dad is very resilient. There's something to keep in mind, however. Everybody has a snapping point. Even the most resilient, flexible people will break if enough pressure is applied to them---wherever that stress comes from.
seems to me that homes like these would become prisons to the non hoarder. cannot move, can only be in one spot, have to have it your significant others way. i could not handle it. i know these people are ill, but they dont seem to care about their spouses as much as their stuff.
@vvsplace The point is that hoarders won't /let/ loved ones throw things out. It's mental trauma to them. Don't insult people, you don't know the entirety of this horrible disorder.
One of my best friends lives in an extremely messy house so this isn't such a shock to me but @tonielizabet is right because her mum has a very health problem that usually ends you up in a wheelchair and my friend being brought up like that makes her messy and its extremely sad. :(
LOL my neighbors were like this. except they had a sort of fear of throwing stuff away. we looked through the window one time, cat poo. they were not allowe to live in the house becasue they didn't have running water like 3 months before we looked in. we would see squirrels run out of/in to the house ALL the time.
@tronclay I guarantee you that that much clutter did not come from four months. It takes years. If you watch "Hoarders" on TLC you find that a traumatic event usually sets people off on this; or they inherit the behavior from parents. It's an obsessive compulsive disorder. But I love that you looked upon this video with compassion, because that's so missing in so many comments on you tube. God Bless You.
another person who has been overwhelmed with STUFF. the world needs to open there eyes and see this is what happens when THINGS rule your life. LESS IS MORE
