  • its not the ecological footprint thats the problem here - the problem is very simple - take out the higher plants and you get organisms like these - Higher plants?

Every country in the world with a seaboard is or has been madly harvesting natural grown seaweed - what it does is remove nitrogen, phosphates and more. its still going on because the polititians in many countries arent strong enough.

Norway harvests 200,000 tons per year - France 70,000.

  • Aaah the effects of over nitrification.... -.-

  • Good fuel, good fuel...

  • Yes, It was quite amazing to watch an entire city chip in and clean up together.

  • I was there at that time ,a lot of local people went to that place to help as volunteer.

I was very moved by that .and I just want to say this city -QingDao is amazing. fresh air ,clean city and nice sea foods...

BTW met a lof of friendly local chinese people ,too.

That was the best time that i had...........

  • so when they bury it, over time, there will be a new coal seam. cool.

  • is it radio active ?

  • holy shit, that would be so cool

  • yes it is, because it contains potassium-40

  • are you being serious cuz if you are i am worried no its not algae is a plant not nuclear waste lolz "is it radioactive" your funny

  • Sisyphus indeed, that will take forever

  • Dont talk shit about pollution and China, America is the number one leading Carbon Dioxide Emmitter,

  • actually, China has way more pollution. It produces more pollution in Urban areas by far than any other country, also has 11 of 20 of the most polluted cities in the world. If it continues on the same rate in carbon emisions thay will pass us very soon in that area (we are increasing in are cobon emisions at about 1.8% while theres is 7.8% of an increase. That is pretty significant. I'm not trying to say they just dont carebut they have such a huge population that it would be hard not to pollute

  • go fucking withdraw all your money in the bank to buy goods from developed countries. China is world factory to feed the global demands, you guys spend less money on your daily life while "pollution bad..."is shiting out of your mouth. assuming build up so many factotries in your country, see whats happening. that will be not only pollution problem....definitely.

  • @gustavus007 What the previous poster meant was that America is the single most polluting nation in terms of carbon emissions produced per capita. You can critisize the overall ecological footprint of China as a country, but when it comes down to it it's hard to ignore the polluting wastefulness and decadence of citizens of a developed first world country. So don't sit too long on your high horse of moral superiority.

  • Green soy...Les athlètes vont pas manquer de salade !

  • algae is a good thing since most of the oxygen in the atmosphere are produced by these one cell plants

  • Comment removed

  • Using energy taken from the light, the algae absorbed the carbon dioxide given off by Taken from Time Magazine:

McClure's lungs and replaced it with oxygen. The air in the closed system smelled like wet hay, but it stayed rich in oxygen (21%), while its CO2 content never got higher than a harmless 1%.

  • no algae turn co2 into o2

  • It also puts out hydrogen sulphide when rotting onshore, which kills.

People are actually dying from this stuff, caused by overuse of pesticides on land. Where a gas mask if doing this kind of work.

  • no too much of it can make deadzones, with decomposing bacteria that use up all the oxygen in the areas.

  • green

  • he's from greek mythology. he had a curse to roll a huge boulder up a hill and watch it roll down again over and over for eternity. i think the guy is saying that after they take some algae out, the gap just fills up again and it will take an eternity to get rid of it all.

  • this is when i was in qingdao

  • Amazing stuff -- love earth's diversity in organisms

  • This is such an obvious case of sabotage against the chinese olympic games. I cannot believe that more people are not commenting on it! is it really a coincedence that in the summer that qingdao is hosting the sailing it is hit with this freak seaweed problem????

  • Alsolute Balderdash ! How the fuck can you effect a giant Algae bloom and have it wash up onto a specific beach ? Algae mind contol from a Satellite, perhaps ? The real culprit, Dunderhead, is pollution. Something that China has plenty of, without "outside" interference.

  • indeed! it is such an obivious sabotage!!

from the factories that are polluting the waterways!

  • I am in Qingdao.I see these algae too.

    what is Sisyphus?
