I commend your reply and accept all your have said. Its not that I am anti-Kata, no It has great importance even in todays secular society. My concern is that I like my Judo to accept all aspects of the experience and not to rebuff one aspect as having greater importance than another...but I susspect that as I grow increasingly older, this will no longer be an issue... especially if I find the kata in armour you so kindly mentioned. Cheers!
Excellent! Kata looked functional right down to their well worn JUDOGI. NICE. Its a world apart from the aesthetic based cr%&*p being promoted. When keeping it real I'am for kata with a small k. But aesthetics with a capital A, for best kATA then I'll join the ranks of the great unwashed! Please spare me that old rebuff, 'Can't appetiate kata your a heathern'...I'am one and I prefer my JUDO based in the real world...CREDO!
@EmperorDalekalpha The katas have a purpose which is not represented in modern sport judo or judo as a means of self defense. Most young judo toughs see them as archaic and useless and in the modern judo world they are probably right. However when I was young I noticed that many of the older judoka at the Kodokan really enjoyed the kata sessions and practiced them diligently. I wished I had seen the kata that is done in armour but I never was that lucky.
