About half of world population are living in countries whose fertility rate is down the rate of 2.1 which means in long run decreasing population. That 2 children family will be standard for the other part too. So perhaps soon after 2050 world population will not increase and after 2060's it will decrease. @Zgmflegend overpopulation? The distribution of resources is a political / economic problem. There is certainly no shortage of resources in the west for the majority of people. If you see countries like Bangladesh where living standards are poor etc etc - the solution is not to wipe them out. Have faith that countries like Bangladesh and sub-Saharan African countries will get better. Once their political / legal systems are more developed.

More people = more work can be done.

To meet the problem of overpopulation, governments need to increase food production & increase the availability of contracpetion and family planning. This is best done through the UN. At a local level people at the bottom need to be careful with how much water and food they use, and to make sure that they think carefuly about how they can support their children and how many they can support.

This has the effect of massively reducing the cost of everything, and eradicating any kind of shortages. There would be more than enough of everything to go around.
