For train marshalling purpuses one empty doesn't really impact train dynamics.

Multiple empties (20 or so) followed by heavy trailing tonnage are often factored in.

Great video, it always amazes me how many times you see a huge train, and right behind the engines is an empty flatcar, i would have thought that it would be better on the back of the train.

Yep. My brother wrecked his first car into the underpass of the IC&E on Wacker Rd outside o Savanna, IL back in 2000, and it didn't make a damn dent in the rock wall.
