Phlovely - if u liked this video, watch the video of my daughter diving down 8 ft to get her toy. Then she swims the entire length of the pool. "little mermaid dives 8ft"
@misstjjones alot of repetition and postitive reinforcement. I'm also a free diver, which means I spend most of my time underwater holding my breath. So she started mimicking what I do. I had her in the water as soon as she could walk. Check out her video of her diving down 8 feet to get her swim toy "Little Mermaid dives 8ft"
What i am about to say might sound mean, but to those who are not talking nice, it will be your child drowning while bd1's kids will never sink. Bravo on your parenting, bd1! Both of my children were out of floaties at 2 years of age. ;)
@Daynaster16 I'm a free diver so I'm always in a pool underwater holding my breath for as long as I can. As soon as my daughter could walk, I had her in the pool on the stairs to play and get acclimated to the water. I would then watch her look at me underwater. Didn't take long for her to learn to hold her breath for several seconds. After about a month playing on the stairs, she got brave and would jump in the water to me.
@Daynaster16 continued from below... I then taught her how to kick and after a couple of months she then started swimming on her own. I trainned my second daughter in the same manner with the same success. Please keep in mind I'm not a professional and all kids are different. Also being able to swim everyday of the year is an advantage I have living in St Thomas. My method may not be suitable for you. I find kidz mimick parents so leading by example is a must. You do it, they do it
@Daynaster16 I've noticed kidz alot older than my daughter struggle to keep their heads above water and wear themselves out. Being able to be calm above and underwater is a must for all. Good luck with training. Again I'm not a professional swim instructor. I inadvertantly came up with these techniques as a result of my free diving passion and joy of being underwater for long periods of time.
@Angtri18 my daughter is quite all right underwater. She can hold her breath between 20-30 seconds. She practices with me. I'm a free diver and can hold my breath for 3 minutes. My daughter likes to be underwater with me. Keep in mind we swim almost everyday of the year in St Thomas. Kidz her learn really fast at a very young age.
@Angtri18 also watch my video of "mermaid in training". That is my second daughter that I've trained in the same manner I trainned my daughter in this video. When kidz learn to hold their breath and are comfortable underwater, learning to swim comes really fast to them.
@miss1990ization when this video was shot, she was 2 1/2. She had been swimming by herself just prior to her 2nd birthday. I had her in the water almost everyday with me, so she picked up swimming quite fast.
@regthrumper yes, rest assured, she is never out of my sight near water. Before she knew how to swim, I taught her how to hold her breath. She could hold her breath for a little over 10 seconds before she started swimming. She's 4 now and can hold her breath between 20-30 seconds. She swam with me everywhere including the open ocean where I free dive. I'm super proud of my daughter! She's a strong girl.
mizukiyaya, this video was shot with an Olympus 1030 SW, but I've upgraded to the Olympus Stylus tough 8010 which is higher mega pixel and shoots videos in 720p.
@JhabeaFans15 No swim lessons. I'm a free diver and always in the water and bring my children with me. My kidz simply mimick me. Notice how kidz copy what parents do from mannerism to the things you say. No different when it comes to physical activities. They copied the way I breath and hold my breath before going underwater. Learning to swim came quickly after that cause they were comfortable being underwater.
@havendoll it's 8 feet deep. Couple months from the date of this video, my daughter was diving to the bottom getting her toys. got a video of that up too.
Great video, B1! We started our kids swimming in the deep end at about the same time. It's the only way to go! My boys are now 9 & 12 years old and can say that they have been swimming practically all of their lives ;)
I would be proud of her too!
Keep up the great work with her, B1!
I think she'll look good in an Olympic swimsuit someday :)
Thanks 64, I've got another lil girl that I'll be trainin soon. Once she can walk, I'll have her in the pool all the time too. They have no fear when they're young.
