so you are a bit incorrect here 7.62 is the same as 308 and 30-06 they are all the same diameter (30 cal) the only difference is the amount of powder and different bullet weights but you can get a 308 bullet that is heavier than 30-06 bullet but they are still all 30 cal bullets

again it really depends on the use, hunting rounds in both are going to be longer and heavier target rounds or general purpose rounds will be shorter and lighter in both 30-06 is in and around 145 to 220 grains and 308 ranges about the same hollow points will be shorter then fmj or ballistic tip "long range" rounds will be slightly longer but i guess the most "common" 30-06 will be slightly longer than the "common" 308 to some extent

In the USA, you pay the $200 tax / transfer fee, are fingerprinted and "approved" by the head, local law enforcement agent in your area. Then, after a 2-6 month wait for BATFE to process your paperwork, you CAN legally own full-auto weapons and even silencers / sound suppressors.

You have to jump through some hoops to get one, but they have never been illegal.

people buy M14's to have fun and target shoot, its an assault rifle. if you want a rifle to hunt with i would look at rifles such as the thompson center arms icon or smith and wesson i-bolt, theres countless others.
