I was disappointed that all I could find was a cover, but you changed my mind :). You're very good! Thanks for sharing the song I needed to hear this morning!
I give it a thumbs up not because I love the song, but because it's all too true for many people this time of year. Having worked to benefit a local rescue mission I have heard many similar stories from people down at this season of their lives. Let's be aware that this is not a season of joy for everybody! Bless the homeless and downtrodden.
@Bigbadred23 Thanks, man. The song is on iTunes Music Store, not under the original album, "Return to Paradise," but under three different Stonehill collections: "Stories," "Our Recollections," and "The Definitive Collection." Merry Christmas!
When I was really small, my parents took me to see him in concert. We listened to his tapes (yes, tapes) in the car a lot, and at home. My favorite song he did was "Weight of the Sky", but this one is certainly my number two choice.
And, of course, there was "Starlings", that was another great example of his mournful voice and weeping guitar.
Good concert. It was his wife's birthday, so he called her in the middle of it. First he said "Oh, nothing much... I'm working... me and a few friends... and then we sang her happy birthday. About 100 to 150 people, I would guess (?).
If you like folk, the Olalla Bluegrass Festival is worth the trip (I saw Clumsy Lovers there for the first time; a band worth checking out). Meanwhile... Wintergrass is coming up soon.
Oh I see, I misread. This is from his Return to Paradise album, which, IIRC, has no funny songs on it. Pretty depressing album, really. But very very good.

Damn. I remember the days when this song seemed to be written for me, and crying while listening to it for the tenth time in a row.

Randy Stonehill wrote another Christmas song years ago...
"I wonder if this Christmas They'll begin to understand,
the Jesus that they celebrate is much more than a man"...

Yep, I have a couple versions of that one in my collection.

We saw him in Bremerton, WA last summer.
Good concert. It was his wife's birthday, so he called her in the middle of it. First he said "Oh, nothing much... I'm working... me and a few friends... and then we sang her happy birthday. About 100 to 150 people, I would guess (?).

I almost went to the Bremerton show. A little too far for me though. Very cool.
