Not only can you do SMS but most instant message providers (AIM, Yahoo!) allow you to forward your messages to text messages when you go offline so you can do instant messaging too!

Hello chfgn,

For SMS text messsaging - just go on your Peek, compose a new message, type in a 10 digit number in the To/CC/BCC field and hit send. Voila! Your friends can also reply to the text message and it'll be delivered to your Peek inbox.

I can't seem to find any good videos showing off the SMS functionality. That seems to be a feature that was added later on so the early reviews don't show it. Does it just dump them into your inbox or is it a separate UI?

You get a little icon in the message list that tells you if it's a text message.
