A Stride "Shopping List" is comprised of subtleties that are learned by listening and studying the performances of the originators of the stride style. Look for the following elements:

1.Drive or "groove"- the rhythmic pulse of the musical performance.

2. Humor

3.Dramatics

4.Power

5."Swing"-the production of a musical sound that makes the listener physically move to the beat.

6.Dynamics- as in classical music.

7. Pedal use

8. Improvisation
