I think the most important thing about the new app marketplaces that are emerging is that it opens up the marketplace to independent developers. A lot of the innovative ideas get lost since the indi developers have no marketing budget, no promotion, no mechanism to except payments etc.. The app marketplace builds all of this functionality in. It would be nice to have a single app marketplace platform that has a standard UI and displays only the apps available on the device you are using it from.
