@man1in2a3box I have this track on vinyl somewhere. I filmed this vid in '08 and i've moved so much around during that time...i'll have to re-locate it. It is an Issac Hayes track, though. He's one of my musical godfathers so that's why his music featured a couple more times on this vid. Once i find that album, i'll do an addendum to the vid and add the name of the song.
I remember I bought one long time ago brand new, kept it for a week, turn it right back in, got a mpc 2000 and I've still got it . If I knew what I know now, I would have kept it, becuase the analog sound quality was nice. But back then everything sounded nice, even a crappy casio.
@AGT415 Unfortunately, The js-30 cant chop samples like the mv-8000 by yamaha or the akai mpc. but if you have the time, patience and desire to get your track sounding just the way you'd like to...You can record your samples into the js-30, adjust their start and stop times, and then assign the sounds to their own pads. Tedious? no doubt..but if you're down for your sound...anything's possible. Yes, you'll have to match sample to a bar if you're not choppping it.
Ha! This was my first sampler. I started thinking about it and it took me 30 minutes of research to remember what the piece of crap was named. I finally worked it out and ended up here, and I'm cracking up remembering those factory sounds now. I remember the only way you could save samples was via MIDI Sysex dump... some sort of sample dump format. I think I spent two weeks sampling clips from the movie Friday into it. Thanks for putting this up here!
It's actually James Brown "Funky President." I don't even remember this sampler, I guess the MS-1 succeeded it which sucked in all the same ways sequencer wise.
Hey Qahtani. i pointed out that the song was "funky president" in the video, but thanks all the same. Damn, i forgot all about the MS-1. Someone reminded me of the Casio SK-1 a week ago.
Cool vid, never heard about this machine untill about 10 minutes ago when I saw a dude play a old beat from this machine. Love these old things time forgot..Another odity people seem to have forgoten is the Zoom sampletrak 224 which was my first sampler which I always used to think was a piece of s*** as I wanted Akai at the time lol now I'm like dam I wouldn't mind one again, the sound was dirty!
Keep rockin! Deep House and Old Skool Hip Hop forever ;-)
I say find another Zoom sampletrak 224 off EBay or something and just have fun with it. the way things are in the world right now....its time to start having some fun again. I found a Casio SK-1 in a thrift store and im already doing stuff the way i did in 1986. Later on V.J07!!
@mrdeedz1 Hey come over to the Zoom Sampletrak forums. Just google "sampletrak forum" and you'll find it. The 224 is the most underrated sampler ever! If you got any questions feel free to ask.
Someone sent me a message about the JS-30 being very very limiting. I erased the message by accident, but it is very limiting. If you're the type of person whose very attention minded to detail..this sampler is NOT for you. If you one of those peeps who believe in making a way out of NO way and enjoy working with what you have...i saud go for it with this sampler.
hello massprod!! sorry for the late response. The JS-30 has sample pitching. The SP1200 is actually a better machine than the JS-30 'cause of its studio applications alone and internal sequencing. the JS-30 lacks in that department but the JS is the bomb for live DJ applications...and if it was the only machine that had to work with...you'd find a way to make it work for you..like i did. Peace!!
Thank your unc for giving it to you. Its an easy and basic machine to work with. Its not an MPC or MV8000, but if you're just starting out...you'll learn to love it.
I still own my JS-30, made tunes of beats with it, hated how you couldn't put your samples in time, since it has real-time recording and no bar or pattern set-ups like the MPC has but I freaked it the best I could back then.
I feel you on that. I did what i could with the js-30 back then also. You made due with what you have...but once i got my hands on that MPC..it was a wrap. I did a couple of recent beats with it and i'll be posting that video soon. Thanks for the comment, Toshi!!
Thank you for peeping out the vid, G. I'll definately be posting more of them up. The song at the end of the video was "theme from cleopatra jones" by Joe simon. Now the song at the beginning of the video is "pursuit of the pimpmobile" and its from the "Truck Turner" soundtrack, which was done by Issac Hayes.
This should be the standard for youtube gear videos!!
candid, of the cuff.. little bit of ego.. and not a waste of my time.
Great Job! make more!

@smoovehandluke No doubt about that. I never really used all of its capacity...and probably never will since i spoiled myself with MPC and MASCHINE.

Is this the kind of sampler where I have to match a sample to a completely bar?? Can it record chopped up samples like a pro sampler?

Nice - seems like an underrated sampler. I look forward to more videos on it.
BTW-what's the song at the end? Is that an Isaac Hayes song too? I remember back when MC Eight sampled that - classic.
