This is one of the best songs ever written. I've heard it a thousand times because my two daughters do not fall asleep at night unless they get to hear this over and over again. Oldest daughter is 7 years so you can believe that I have heard it many times ..... and still I love it ...
To me NOTHING can beat this version! It is one of my favorite songs of all times, a true masterpiece and the whole album is amazing. Did you do any more music after, I really would love to hear more!
So excited to have this land in my "in" box. Survived off of the first album while living in Germany in the 90's, but had a hard time finding any other work. This is fantastic!
I found this cause I am reading 20,000 Leauges Under The Sea, and I looked up Moblilis In Moblili then found a page about Capt. Nemo and this song is mentioned on Wiki. I like music like this (I have water inspired songs-lot of reverb and flanger lol) and I like water so I am gonna check more of your stuff out. I scuba dive also.
Amazing!!! Sarah is amazing, and what a compliment to you that she chose your song!!! That said, I really hope more people find this because you're amazing :)
Amazing voice, had heard the SB version first & didn't realise this was the original. Hard to pick a favourite of the two, though leaning towards this version!
vilka minnen!
Love this song from when I first heard it and it never gets old. Breaks my heart every time I hear it. Linder, your voice is beyond compare and the music by Dive is amazing. This is a timeless classic!
such an amazing song man. sarah brightman's cover is pretty good too, but this is just soo much better. the youth just doesn't appreciate this song, at all
I own this original LP, and it's truly wonderful, not just this song, so recommend people who love this song to check out other songs from the album "Where the River Turns to Sea", songs like Holy Ground and Same Old Town, in fact need to dig out my old record and spin the whole thing again :)
Just brilliant. I've heard Cecilia's version first, due to me being a Swede, then stumbled upon Sarah's version. Love them both, but this has a more subtleness to it, which I find very appealing. I shall look more of Dive's stuff up for sure.
This is a great song! I am old enough to remember listening to this song during a radio show called "Tracks" or "Trax" in Sweden in the mid 80s. Glad to find it here on youtube. Personally, I find this version better than Sarah Brightman's. Also, the video is great. Well done Linder and Holmberg!!
I have to say i like and enjoy both versions, each one has its special vision of the song, Sarah's version is more strong, Dive's one is more intimate. I live them, a great song for good performers.
@paninaro81 - krister does actually remind me a bit of Hubert Kah. Wish he was still releasing music. ...but in his lieu I'd be more than happy with more of krister's tunes!
Dive really hit the nail with this song. Voice, tempo, choir, composition,... All managed extremely well. A true pleasure to listen to and Im happy to have found it. Thank you...
Sarah's ephasises an almost "heartbreak-emotion" and with the choir, a certain excitement. However, there is a female backing vocalist that sings with the choir at some stage in the song: "ooohh- ooohh" - "re-focussing" the "excitement" to "heartbreak-emotion".
Dive's ("the original") is dramatic, almost "dark", and emphasises a plot. It's deperate and emotional. (Just look at Krister's facial experssion when he is about to drown...) Maybe Krister can tell us more about the "plot" (which seems like from the Oil Companies and their lawyers)!?
One this I will say that makes this version better then Sarah Brighmans: A male voice is much more fitting when in context with the book.
Come to think of it, I don't think there was a single instance of a female being sighted on board of the Nautilus in the book. Of course there weren't many sightings of crew period.
We did. Dive from Stockholm, Sweden. This is the original version by Erik Holmberg and myself, Krister Linder.
I had the pseudonym Chris Lancelot at the time.
Those who heard Sarah's version first tend to appreciate that one more. It's all good as long as you respect the elders. Without us, Sarah's version wouldn't have existed. Enjoy.
kristerlinder, after hearing this I would like to say this version is excellent. I'd only heard Sarah's version and chanced on this one thinking nothing could be better then hers but this is really excellent. A completely different feel that Sarah's version, which I also love, but I really like it because of that. Very good work.
@kristerlinder are you one the Dive members? you shot the video for same old town in my hometown Kinvara do you recall you the old man in his sittingroom was actually in the lounge in my house winkles hotel i remember you guys well and the "Cowboys" van i have spent the last 20 years looking for your music i hate sarahs version by the the way i would love to ger in contact if you wish
@kristerlinder Honour to you Krister and Erik! Actually, you as Dive did three excellent albums!!! Some of the best albums made in Sweden... For you who hasn't looked them up, do so!
Hi Krister. Your version is the best one, always thought so. I visited one of your gigs in Linköping at the folketshus way back. I think it was early in the 90's. Do you still sing? If not you should start again. You've got one of the best voices I'e ever heard. If you want some music to put your voice on, please contact me... Take care. Love /T
yeh heja sverige we did do this song best and we have many good singers yeha!!! i freaking love it. and this music fits right in then u see up at the stars:DD test that u will freaking love it. i have tried it many tims:D
This is really a great tune.. Nice to find again after all these years. I raise my hand and wave to this original version to the one performed by Sarah Brightman.
I think this version is better than Sarah's and it is also the original. Of course, Brightman did a very good job (as always) and made this song known to the world.
Brightman did to Dive's "Nemo" what Hendrix did to Dylan's "Watchtower". You can hear a good song in the original but it is really brought to life with Sarah's cover. It just works so much better with a female voice IMO.
Who cares if it's the original, that doesn't mean it's better. This version is bland, boring and just downright gay. There needs to be a woman singing the vocals period. It sucks compared to the remake. The same way the original "All along the Watchtower" version did compared to the Hendrix remake. Or do you not know who those people were or not understand what I am talking about?
Although no activism, have a look at my amatuer amateur video "The Story of Keiko". (I wish I had the money to produce a new professional video for this great song. It has sooo much potential.)
Dude I get it. You're hooked. But this would make a great protest statement for save the Whales on Animal Planet.
Sara does the fairy tail pretty version. She is also my favorite opera singer. The Wizard of Ozz 1939 was really written about World War 2 and the Wicked Witch represented Hitler's Germany. Your contribution was like reading the book not the fairy tail movie cartoon.
ms brightman's got all the creditials except the credibility. sad but true. it is also not her duty to make a travesty of other artistes' work. end of story.
you based artistic credibility on awards, what a shallow reason for liking a performer!!! If I'm going to base the aesthetic preference of ms brightman's on your rather tepid and vacuous arguements, it will further cement my impressions that her music was tailor made for non discerning listners.
For all who want to know it's on Dive's first CD "Where The River Turns To Sea" on Polygram/Mercury from around 1983. You might find it on GEMM, Musicstack or eBay.
Their other CDs "Dive" and "Stills" are pretty sublime too!
I totally agree with you Kaptein! This video and Sarah's both have changed me too.. Both productions are true to what is seen within the subconscious mind. Just can't get enough, and hope more people will work with the power of this special song for many years to come.
interesting to hear this version....although i really enjoy the climactic feel of Ms. Brightman's version. I remember the first time i heard her version, i felt like i was 20,000 leagues under the sea ;)
I, too, am a Sarah fan and only knew this song through her. I'm so glad I stumbled on it. This is fantastic. I love to see how the orig. writer envisioned his story, and then how covers are interpreted. So what other songs are by this writer I could see/listen to on YouTube?
This is a cover. The original Captain Nemo is made by the swedish artist Krister Linder, under his moniker "Dive". The video for that version can be found here on YouTube as well!
I am of the opinion that Sarah's version, though a cover, is much better!I could fall asleep while listening to dive's performance, while Sarah sings in a much more dramatic manner which I believe suits this song better!Nonetheless, this is inly my personal opinion.
Well then it's GREAT that you now got two versions to enjoy: one to sing you to sleep and one to wake you up ;-)
But lastly...
Must we really waste energy on arguing which of the two is "the best" ? It's getting boring. Let's settle for accepting that there are several interpretations of the song, and many varied preferences and tastes in the matter.
I appreciate he's the original but I don't find it all that well performed. His voice has a bad step in it that grates on my ears. Listening to the live version I can hear him straining in dealing with it which explains the studio versions odd sound. Sounds like he is singing from the neck and not the chest, no range, no power. Sarah's version has a more soulful feel, his seems flat, much too gated in the delivery to me. This video is far more "artsy" and even more out of touch with the lyrics.
This is one of the best songs ever written. I've heard it a thousand times because my two daughters do not fall asleep at night unless they get to hear this over and over again. Oldest daughter is 7 years so you can believe that I have heard it many times ..... and still I love it ...

It is so amazing piece of art. I mean melody, not this particular version, because Sarah's one is far, far better arranged.
This original "Captain Nemo" arrangment lacks of something I'd call "underwater space". Thanks God Sarah did correct this. ;)
Which does not change my opinion - "CN" is great composition, one of my favorites songs ever.

It sucks compared to the remake. The same way the original "All along the Watchtower" version did compared to the Hendrix remake. Or do you not know who those people were or not understand what I am talking about?

I agree with you. Without wanting to offend anyone, I think this song sounds gay in his voice,

Why judge which one is best!?
Dive is the original artist(s), Sarah (and the backing choir) presented an interpretation thereof.
Once you get to the level of "The Captain's" understanding of the art of music, you'll appreciate that both presentations are brilliant!

I agree with sandybaggot...
(I would like to think that I came-up with the idea 1st many years ago! This is the ideal song for save the whale-ACTIVISM.
KapteinNemo 2 years ago
Although no activism, have a look at my amatuer amateur video "The Story of Keiko". (I wish I had the money to produce a new professional video for this great song. It has sooo much potential.)

agreed dive or sara Brightman the song is one of a classic just sit back relaxe and lissen u wouldn't beleve how soothing it is

I first heard the song as Sarah's version and i think i prefer that to this one. To each his own-we all have our tastes.

Sarahs version is a mockery. This is brilliant stuff.
elenhin 2 years ago
Dude I get it. You're hooked. But this would make a great protest statement for save the Whales on Animal Planet.
Sara does the fairy tail pretty version. She is also my favorite opera singer. The Wizard of Ozz 1939 was really written about World War 2 and the Wicked Witch represented Hitler's Germany. Your contribution was like reading the book not the fairy tail movie cartoon.
Go ahead... Hit on this

how could sarah ruin such a sublime song is beyond belief! she did that as well with lisa gerrard's sanvean. shame on her.
jordimla 2 years ago
She likes the song, she covers it.
She's more famous than you; She has the credentials to do it.
She has gone further and has more experience than many, many artistes in her field.
It's not your duty to say what she can, can't, and shouldn't copy, and neither is it your duty to judge her songs.
You are, of course, free to do so, just as Miley Cyrus is free to continue producing CD's, unfortunately.
CoolMapleStore 2 years ago
ms brightman's got all the creditials except the credibility. sad but true. it is also not her duty to make a travesty of other artistes' work. end of story.
jordimla 2 years ago
She's won numerous awards. Credentials. There're more, but I've already invalidated your point.
It's not her "duty" but she has complete right and freedom to do so, and this may come as a shock to you, but MANY people love her covers.
Some of them made people who didn't know her fans.
People like you are just narrow-minded and stuck in your own world of artist superiority.
CoolMapleStore 2 years ago
you based artistic credibility on awards, what a shallow reason for liking a performer!!! If I'm going to base the aesthetic preference of ms brightman's on your rather tepid and vacuous arguements, it will further cement my impressions that her music was tailor made for non discerning listners.
jordimla 2 years ago
How else do you base artistic credibility" then? Personal taste, which is COMPLETELY opinion-based? Christ.

I'll forward all the positive comments to my mom Mia Forsberg, who was one of the people working with the video in the 90's :)

Knew you had a fan here in South Africa?
Dive, Krister, you-guys will not realise what an influence this song has had on my "dreamers' life" - it's rediculous! (Just look at my username!).
Do you actually realise how much potential this song has!? Any possibility of a re-release with a new spectacular video!? So, think about it!
In conclusion, I love you-guys' style, I understand and feel it!
Please keep it coming!

I, too, am a Sarah fan and only knew this song through her. I'm so glad I stumbled on it. This is fantastic. I love to see how the orig. writer envisioned his story, and then how covers are interpreted. So what other songs are by this writer I could see/listen to on YouTube?
rancar29 3 years ago
This is a cover. The original Captain Nemo is made by the swedish artist Krister Linder, under his moniker "Dive". The video for that version can be found here on YouTube as well!

Krister I must say that I am just blown away. I was completely unaware that Sarah Brightman's version was a cover of your song.
I love the bass in this version, sounds like Tony Levin playing a Chapman Stick.

Of course many wish this, because you are so handsome and cute. Good Luck with Love always for everybody because WE ALL need it so much.

I am of the opinion that Sarah's version, though a cover, is much better!I could fall asleep while listening to dive's performance, while Sarah sings in a much more dramatic manner which I believe suits this song better!Nonetheless, this is inly my personal opinion.
drusdurs 3 years ago
Well then it's GREAT that you now got two versions to enjoy: one to sing you to sleep and one to wake you up ;-)
But lastly...
Must we really waste energy on arguing which of the two is "the best" ? It's getting boring. Let's settle for accepting that there are several interpretations of the song, and many varied preferences and tastes in the matter.
Simply chose the version you like best
and leave the rest for others to love...
