@mpgomatic Nope, which really, really sucks! If they kept the Vortec 4200 in production and dropped the 6 speed that is in the 3.6, it would of been one of GM's best engines in speed, reliability, and will outlast most of these new engines , no doubt about it!
@awada85 It wouldn't work regardless. The 4200 is an inline-6 not a V6, and this is a FWD platform, so the 4200 block would be too long to fit sideways. But your right, the 4200 is a good solid engine, and inline six's in general, have a butt-load of low end torque and great reliability.
thats about the same as my 08 V6 f150. took about 9 seconds, well i live in colorado now and 6800ft above sea level changes my 9 second 0-60 to about 11 seconds
@belizetj I would assume they only use the first four gears for WOT and the other two for fuel economy. But idk lol it is kinda odd that it shifts like that for a 6 speed gearbox.
I own an Acaidia, loaded. I wonder how much this Traverse weighs. From the sounds of the tire chirping, Im guessing its front wheel drive, and has no options. Load it up, and it wont accelerate that fast.
@MegaToren i own a 2010 traverse, AWD, loaded, and the little (big) bastard runs. its my wife's car, and i was very surprised when i first drove it. its on par with what this video shows. and on the traverse/acadia/enclave/ whatever the saturn platform is, the all wheel drive only kicks in when the front tires slip.
Actually, I used my G-Tech preformance meter on our 2009 AWD LTZ and measured 0-60 in ~7.6 - 7.9 sec. I did put a K&N filter on it, but I don't think that made that big a differrence.
And to the 4.2 Vortec guys... No. The Direct Injection 3.6 L may not have as much torque, but the entire reason GM created DI engines was to get high mileage AND good power. The DI lets you get a comp ratio that used to require premium fuel which makes the engine more powerful and efficient.
Ok, but with that being said, the 4.2 I6, if given a 6 speed, and made DI, would blow the 3.6 out of the water. Look at the non - DI 3600's, and look at the 4.2. No contest. The 4.2 blows this engine out of the water. It's more reliable, and will outlast the 3.6 no matter what. Don't get me wrong, the 3.6 is a marvelous engine, but no 3.6 will touch the 4.2. Trust me. We have both (Mom's Acadia = 3.6 V6, Envoy = 4.2 I6). No contest.
@SpiritA350 I totally agree, I love my 4.2 's rev band I can get 0-60 in 7 secs. In terms of reliability, I know several people with over 200K on a 4.2 and have seen someone with over 300K. Actually the 4.2 without DI still has more torque and almost as much HP than the 3.6 DI. Now imagine a 4.2 DI with a turbo...
I agree, they should've kept the 4.2 and paired it with this new 6 speed auto. It probably wouldn've gotten just as good of gas mileage and had more power.
i just rode in an outlook a.k.a traversse and the ride was quit stiff and every time you went for the gas above 60 it would go up to 3,000 rpm once you got to 4,000 rpm youre in the power and youre gone i still like my flex better tho
Also don't get me wrong GM is pretty much my favorite auto maker in the US but I would just stick with something like GM's 5.3 vortec until the get the kinks worked out of this new engine.
To the contrary of the guy that says don't hesitate to buy this car.... My dad works at a dealership and these things come into the shop all the time for engine problems.. Since the 3.6 is new to GM it is having a lot of problems & so is the transmission. Rough shifts and other stuff. Just wanted to let you guys know since they are a very appealing vehicle from the exterior.
It might depend on where you live and other factors. I live in the Inland Northwest. I love the Yukon XL we have. Hey it may not get the best gas mileage in the world but it is very comfortable for family trips and the 3rd seat is nice even for me and I'm 17 and over 6'. I didn't find any make or model of this vehicle to be comfortable.
nah its low end grunt isnt that great. it makes peak power at 6500 rpm and peak torque at 3800rpm. The Australian guys at Holden have tuned this engine for their RWD Commoore for more low-down grunt. makes full power a 6000rpm and full torque at 2800rpm. So full pulling power 1000rpm earlier. Apparently performance is fantastic. The Traverse would benefit from more low-end torque and power because of s size and bulk
Well wouldnt it be proportionate to engine speed? It seems to kind of just lag along with whatever is happening by a second or two... I would think its something different just because of that.
I'm not a fan of the gear ratios, running 2nd gear past 60 seems pretty bad for a 6 speed. I went for a test drive in an 07 Saturn Outlook (rebadged Traverse) and it was not like this one at all...
They came with two different transmission options I think. The high end engine has five more horsepower, so it could have been different for that reason, but I'm not really sure.
My wife just got the Acadia. Looked at the Chevy too. The salesman told us that the reason the higher end engine has more power is because of the dual exhaust system on the upper trim levels.
Oh i know i just purchased one for my wife as well. We looked at the Saturn, Chevy, and GMC. GMC was the most need fufilling because we loved our old Yukon XL.
The car, is the best car we have ever owned. and its one of the safest cars in the U.S.
why is running 2nd to/past 60 bad for the tranny? It is just a ratio, and the engine is the one working hard. If it can handle it then let it. Dan another great snippit of what's to come. The gauges look pretty smart!!
This fully loaded LTZ costs as much as a base LS 4X4 Suburban. lol
