Both versions are great. The early version was more raw, unpolished, which most of us were back then. Compare Johnny Winters version of Good Morning Littlt School Girl with any one elses version....its more raw, earthy, meaty.. tasty.
Forget the Turner vs Powell battle... If you think this is BETTER than the original recording, you need your ears and/or head examined. It's a good performance but the original on Pilgrimage was a masterpiece.
this IS a great vocal, and so was the original.....too bad MT has lost his, and has the audacity to think he can fool everyone and 'come back'...AP voice is FAR better nowadays that MT... the video doesn't do it justice (hey! that is an MT excuse!)- i have the actual audio and it is fantastic!...
you had to be there--you weren't....go back to MT's camp-- he of the 'lost voice/ downtuned guitars/ no new music/bland performances'.
nope, there is ONE Wishbone Ash--the one that has been going for 40 years with Andy Powell....MTWA is an endeavour by a former member who quit the band
Gee, it's hard to believe how old this song is. I was only 12 when "Pilgrimage" came out. It's great to see Andy Powell still doing it with so much enthusiasm. Too bad that Ted Turner,Upton, and Martin Turner packed it in. Oh well. Terrific skat vocal too. Very original. Drum solo really works.
OOps, just noticed this IS Wishbone Ash, but only one original member from the original lineup - didn't recognize the names so thought it was a cover...
tribute? hell, this is BETTER than the original recording...Andy and Wishbone Ash of 'today' are levels beyond what once was...
another former member, who has been out of the band, is fronting a legacy, or tribute, take your pick, band using a similar name, but is of no whether the caliber of this stellar outfit!!
Yeah!
Crabtree is the best drummer they ever had play with them.

Can anybody recommend any other bands or songs of this era with a similar jazz feel to them to this song?I love this kind of rock/jazz feel.

why compare? that was 40 years ago !
this stands on its own today as a great performance.....far above that tripe coming out of the other camp by that washed up singer..

You're the one that made the comparison, man - I was just replying to what you said.
Surely you don't think THIS is a great vocal? He's wisely keeping his voice lower than the guitars.

Great cover of this tune...I'd freak if I was in a bar & a band played this! You never hear bands cover old FM radio stuff like this...
