its only a partial remake, and somewhat a sequel, since it shows pretty goes into the final volume of the original kozure okami series. The TV series which is not available on DVD shares an even quality i think with both the original manga and the films.

i didnt know they had a long-haired wolf as well. All I was familiar with was the fat guy with the diapers and his brother the blonde short hair guy in the later Zatoichi movie.

- where was the extreme close ups of the eyes and some sweat running down the side

- and when looking right does it always look like the same shot shown multiple times but possibly zoomed in slightly.

- Watching the original for the 1st time, I thought "How could this guy be tough?", but he ended up being a pretty cool character. The Lone Wolf in this clip looks like just an ordinary guy, but maybe if I watched the series from the start I would think differently!

The actual sword strike scene was pretty good and I liked the touch with the shadow on the Lone Wolf, but I thought some of the camera angle weren't up to scratch.

-- With Lone Wolf putting the sword in its sheath all from 1 angle rather than a close up rinsing the blood from the sword, then a close up of the sword sliding into the sheath by the last few cms and then the hands resting.

Plus even though Shogun had 80's keyboard music, it did add to the atmosphere!

What he did was that he waited for the guy to block the sun so he could see, then he blocked the other guy' s offense and if you notice carefully he turned the sword blade down so it reflects the sun in the other guy' s eyes, then that split moment the other guy was blinded from the reflection he sliced him in half.

that' s why they used this angle.

The Original is truly a Classic. Anyone attempting to remake the Original has got their hands full. I just hope they include the Japanese influence when or if they decide to truly remake it.....This small scene wasn't bad at all. I was wondering how he would defeat that guy. In this adaption he uses his Dotanuki instead of a mirror on Daigoro. I believe in the first TV series he also uses his sword instead of a mirror to off the swordsman (Hyago if IIRC) in this duel.

I never new they made any more adaptations after the 70's movies. I'll be scouring the internet for this like a Chickenhawk. Lone Wolf and Cub was one of my favourite series along with Sure Death/Hissatsu.

If my memory serves well, I remember I watched this sequent stories on TV more than three decades earlier, but the host character was not the person on the screen. Please inform me of how to purchase this version of DVD in Tokyo because my grandson is looking forward to enjoying viewing it. He is currently a fouthgrader in elementary school in Los Angeles. He is well-versed in English and Japanese and has a proclivity to Japanese samurai movies. Hopeful of kindly response at your convenience.

There are 6 films of Kozure Okami starring Tomisaburo Wakayama, but they stopped making them due to poor cinema attendance in the mid 70s.

A TV show ran 3 seasons, starring Kinnosuke (Nakamura) Yorozuya. This series has been shown outside of Japan a number of places including Canada and Germany.

In 92/93 the film this clip is taken from was made, it's available officially only through discontinued VHS in Japan.

02to04 a new series was aired in Japan but has not been made available

Not legally. The last time I checked it's not even available on DVD in Japan.

The DVDs being sold on the odd site with English subs are from the HK VCD release, fairly poor quality but could be worse.
