Its not actually correct. The notes are fine, but the figure should be played WITHOUT lifting your fingers. Andy plays them so it sounds like a "scrolled chord", This means that ALL 3 notes are ringing out ( the 1 and 2 tone only stops when the 3 tone stops ).

i have read some comments saying this way on the video is easier for beginers. it may be but, looking at the stretching , doing it the right way gives you the full stretch on all the 4 parts. and coming out of the second part to third you have to restretch fingers. in this video. in the original which andy plays going from 5 7 9 to 7 9 11 and back to 2 4 6/7, you have a better movement and constant finger stretch which is better.

But the novice players cant sustain this stretch. easy to look at but really hard to do. this song is also hard to play in actual due to unusual sequence. anybody who can play this with ease is a good player

@bopboptutu i tend to agree with you, looking at the video a few times now, i can see its quite a good way to learn. i found years ago that doing stretching to this riff, my second and third fingers kept losing the stretch position. but after time as people say they stretch and the pain goes away. i also find relaxing the hand by shaking it and exercising the fingers helps.

the riff is frets 4 6 8....strings 543... 5 7 9....strings 6 5 4....7 9 11 strings 6 5 4 ..strings 654.....2 4 6/7. slide from 6 fret to 7. and repeat from start thats the way i play it , seems easier . and thats the way andy plays it.

ive been playing bar chords n such for like 8-14 months n my fingers are calast n my hand stretches pretty far like from the 1st to the 7th fret just either learn n practice songs with barr chords or picking fast n eventually it will come natural to stretch ur hand that far.

@randomherossc Some tutorials have simplified that riff using this alternate fingering simply because there was less movement of the hand across the fretboard (once you were past the C#sus2 part notice his index finger stayed on the second fret for the rest of it instead of having to go up the fretboard only to have to go back down to fret 2 anyway). This has the potential to make it more accessible to beginners as it means not having to move the hand about the fretboard so much.

I had similar problems with this when I started playing wide intervals. The way I got around it was to slide up onto the neck say from in this case 2- 4 -6 to 12-14-16.. then work your way down until it gets painful. At this point hold that position.. don't move for a minute. Repeat this for several days and you will find your hand gets used to the odd position and is more flexible.

Just an observation that would go a long way in creating better musicians. Ok, you told everybody where to find the notes on the guitar. Thx! But they have no idea what they're doing MUSICALLY SPEAKING. And in music like everything else, the saying "don't give a man a fish, teach him how to fish" applies big time.These are all called major 9th chords. Andy loved these. Their symbols are:C#m9-A9-B9-F#m9. Andy omitted the 3rd degree on all of them but the1st and 4th chord are minor.Study chords!
