  • the danger with QR codes is that it brings viruses and worms from the computer world and puts them in the real world. Scan the wrong QR code and... trouble.

  • @failblorg

yeah, and then when you put the phone to your face you can get sick :(.

  • @Nietsnebarg EXACTLY!!! instead of it leading to a rogue site, that pushes a worm into your android/iphone which then lies dormant, keylogs your numbers, contacts and personal information, and then pushes it to a remote sql database, or worse yet jumps to your computer when you connect it via bluetooth or wifi, it's gonna make you sick when you put it to your face :)

  • Love the QR code. I use Qrafter on iPhone and love it. My advice if you're making them- shorten the URL before generating the QR code, lots of QR readers are very buggy and don't do well with long urls.

  • For our business, we really needed a mobile link management platform too - found and love ConnectMe QR.

  • No more 2D codes, Bye Bye 2D Codes.

A new addressing technology called the Keyword Identifier(developed by Oyokey Inc.) performs better than any 2D code. It gives customers, users a better experience and retains, enhances a company brand without introducing any other brand and the same Keyword Identifier can work via typing, scanning or speaking. The Keyword Identifier has all the important features of these 2D codes and much much more. Check out Keyword Identifier at Blogspot.

  • Thanks for making this so simple to understand.

  • ORWELLIAN

  • how much information can be contained in a QR code? Are there infinite possibilities? Does it only have to be for URLs?

  • @qwelton My understanding is that it can holkd up to several hunded letters of text.

  • @qwelton My understanding is that it can hold up to several hunded letters of text.

  • yeeeeeehaaaaa cool girl

  • The one on the number plate might be used by traffic wardens to automaticly issue penalty notices, so if this is the case a little modification with a black marker pen might save you a lot of money or at least cause them to work for their money slowing them down so less people will get one.helping your fellow motoris.t

  • i got a qr code on the back of my rusko t shirt from hot topic.

  • Can a smartphone scan also colored qr codes?

  • 666 the number of the beast!

  • At barcodeconnections . com , you can track:

    1. How many people scan your QR code. (Total number and unique scans)

    2. Where people scan your barcode. (The geographic location)

    3. When people scan your barcode. (Hour by hour, in realtime)

    4. How long individuals spend on your website after scanning your QR code.

    5. Total number of website pages individuals view after scanning your QR code.

    6. The bounce rate of people who visit your website after scanning your QR code.

  • Am I the only one intrigued by the QR codes in the back?? the one in the top left goes to knowyourmeme but the onther one are unreadable by my phone... :p

  • QR codes are useless. You can read a URL with your eyes.

  • @seka1986 Scanning a QR code is more faster than going to a web browser and typing a URL. You just love having a difficult life do you? I guess so! =P

  • @Jazzie646 Is it that difficult to read a url with your eyes? It seems faster than using an application to read the QR code.

  • @seka1986 QR codes cannot only do links, this is a list of all the things my phone turns into QR codes: Contacts, URL's, Applications, Phone Numbers, Calendar Events, Text, Geo-locations, SMS'.

  • @Rlouckxke So you turn a phone number into a QR code so someone can take that extra step to translate it instead of reading the number with their eyes. Gotcha, very useful indeed.

  • why in the world does this woman remind me of an older Miranda Cosgrove. (icarly)

  • @link10041632 LOL. she really do!

  • Thank god I found out what these were.

I've been seeing them fucking EVERYWHERE

  • I love QRs! I´ve been using them for a while now but I'm using uQR.me which is excellent! Their QR codes are recycable so I printed them on my business cards and when I changed my phone number all I had to do was update it on their website and the business cards were automatically updated. Also using another QR for my small business. This is the ONLY site that I found which let's you recycle the QRs!

  • Thank you for making the video, it was fun and easy to watch. I definitely think that a QR Code in the right place can be very helpful and convenient, try it the next time your searching for a home and want to see photos, price, square footage, Auto Schedule an appointment to preview or contact the lister offering a vacation home for rent, etc.. . RealtyGo

  • seen one on tv for harveys

  • woa woa woa.. your idea of "looking for something interesting" is by scanning a barcode that leads you to waste your time viewing spam advertisements? what kind of lunacy has this world come to? ever think of.. i dunno.. contemplating the meaning of life or something while you're outside walking? this is just depressing.

  • 0:46 looks like iJustine! These QRs seem like a stupid way to advertise.

  • people should make QR codes of all the Wikileaks mirror sites or specific cables (for Operation Leakspin)

  • this is really cool

  • Best RB Tech video so far. Very interesting.

  • Google Goggles the best reader.

  • lower east side new york, home sweet home =)

  • We have something similar to that here where I live, however we call it littering.

  • your so hot

  • wow i never knew these things existed. then again, my phone's most advanced feature is having a playlist.

  • I always thought these rocketboom tech episodes were to simplistic, but this is a simple tech area that I never understood. I guess we all have something to learn. thanks Ellie.

  • wtf shut your mouth advertising ripoff merchants who hide behind computers with nothing to other... better yet just show us your gash...

  • @jeru3 zxing.org/w/decode.jspx

  • I learned something today!

  • Still didn't find a decent QR Code Reader for the PC. Just a C# Librarys, as in begging me to write one myself...

  • cool

  • i had seen these things around the place and never knew what they were

    goo[dot]gl/PcFm2[dot]qr

  • fake!

  • interested how much porn ones they run in

  • More Ellie, less commercials! :-)

  • Oooooohhhh, that's what they are! Thanks, ma'am!

  • this seems really fun and adventurelike, I'm gonna do this now

  • the first qr code is lunchafterrainbows(dot)tv

  • here in israel we have the qr code in the newspaper

its always there if you want more info on the story you go to the qr code for the link

  • @adirm18 That's pretty clever and very useful!

  • i loved this video! very informative! thanks.

  • I love this bitch

  • What protects you from attack sites when you're randomly scanning these things?

  • real life easter eggs! this is amazing!

  • oh so thats what those things are.

  • Thank you for the video! i have been wondering what these meant for a while now, they were plasterd all over everything you bought in Japan!

  • I remember making similar 2D matrices with binary ASCII years ago. This is more convenient to use, but can't be read directly.

    01001100 01001111 01001100

  • I had a Nokia N95 with the QR code reader so i'll try it and I'm using some QR code generator.

  • Now I understand, I see QR codes on everything, and it is based upon the Japanese symbol thinking. The American bar codes line up, like an alphabet to form a word, and the Japanese QR codes is encoded into a symbol format. Good to know, you cannot read a Japanese symbol without a special code reader, the bar codes also number themselves and can be looked up.

  • Nice one Ellie! (as always) :) It's lucky you didn't come across any rude ones! If I ever bothered to buy printable sticker paper, I'd make filth :P

  • So you can only use them if you have a "smart" phone?

  • You're cool Ellie. =)

  • does google goggles work for finding these

  • On the iPhone, Google's Mobile app has Google goggles built in, which does a fantastic job of reading QR codes.

I put my vCard on a QR code, which I put on business cards. Then people don't have to retype all the data.

  • Shame on you abusing QR on a Iphone

  • QR codes are UPC's on crack, Ellie you are my "It" girl

  • @scootosan Well glad you like "IT", haha. Thanks!!!

  • Very interesting.

  • I use my Droid Incredible's barcode scanner to read these.

  • Awesome!

  • Thanks Ellie, your videos are always informative :)

  • Really interesting! Great video!!

  • Cool, but is there a risk of activating some malware?

  • not.it is so wierd

  • Awesome videos R.B!!

Great video, i always wondered what those barcodes were used for.

I thought it was only blackberry BBM pins

  • nice hat!

  • I saw one in a public bathroom once... shudder to think what it leads to

  • @Quixotic1018 Guess you should scan to find out!

  • SO COOL!!! Where I live I haven't seen these, but when I go to chicago in a few weeks I will be on lookout :)

  • Nice, I finally know what those things are.

  • Mine went to goatse.cx :(

  • you really should do a story on AES256 codes... and encryptions...

  • @drappke I'll add it to the show ideas list!

  • The second spammers get a hold of this it will be pretty useless.

  • @hardworker424 there were lots of advertisements. The spamming has already begun, but you can still find cool "treasures" ;)

  • In Switzerland, the SBB (train company) uses those QR codes for the train tickets we buy online... So, when someone asks to see your ticket, you just show the QR code you have on your phone (if not printed out).

  • @Leylaonthemoon that's very cool! The US in way behind in regards to using phones for tickets. My gym accepts a bar code on my phone, but that's about it.

  • Very interesting report Ellie!

  • @gadokondre Glad you liked it!

  • i love when people stick their garbage everything

  • Have you ever thought about what a fart would sound like played in reverse?

  • @wyvern175 Awesome question.

  • @wyvern175 i did that 10 years ago with microsofts recording program and a microphone. It can reverse sound. It sounds kinda like slurping while eating soup if it's a wet one, and like breathing in while tightening your lips if it's a dry one.

  • cool..

  • BBM
