  • @daijishin Huge migrations of Chinese left China for all parts of Southeast Asia, where they continue to live today. Obviously they brought martial arts with them, the same as the brought food, religion and other customs. However it's over simplifying to think that the indigenous people had no fighting method of their own! Muay Thai has heavy Kung Fu influence, but Silat is native-based as it Eskrima. None of these fall into Shaolin, or even Kung Fu.

  • great video

  • get ur facts straight, asshole! it wasn`t muslims that laid the foundation of baji but the taoists. go read a book, idiot.

  • @daijishin very true but it ses the foundation in its tradition and roots

  • One of the major players in the chaos spreading throughout the Arab world is the Moslem Brotherhood, an Islamist terror group that has spawned such terror organizations as Hamas and al Qaeda. Israel will soundly defeat them and capture their lands as well. Enemies like Hezbollah, Lebanon, the Palestinians, Hamas, etc. will cease to exist, and the lands they now occupy will once again belong to Israel.

  • virtua fighter 5 song intro? :D

  • the Korean got his ass kicked lol!!

  • it is a long story

  • I wish this video was translated. Say, why don't somebody that speak both languages upload this video with an english translation??

  • @chrisdotwynn Too much work dude.

  • @daijishin - to add to your very valid point, 'Silat' is the Arabic word "Salat" in Malay pronunciation. The word Salat means worship or how Muslims pray. The Silat martial art form is founded on the positions of our prayer which involve the entire body as most everyone knows. I'm sure some forms migrated from point A to point B (capoeira from Africa to Brasil is one example) but this is not one of them. Silat is of local Malaya [Muslim] Origin.

  • am quite sure about it.

  • hmmm, correction, buddhist/taoist monks/chinese merchants spread the martial arts in southeast asia....think of kuntao (which means fist way in hokkien)

  • What's the difference between Muslim and Moslem, or are they just different "legal" spellings?

  • It is the same, just different spellings.

  • Muslim is correct and Moslem, etc are incorrect. It's pronounced Mus-lim, as if it has two syllables. A Muslims (like me) will always use the 'Muslim' spelling regardless of country of origin. It's the same with the Quran. Muslims always use 'Quran' or 'Qur'an' and non-Muslims seem to always use Koran. Hope this helps/answers your question. =)

  • There is no absolute 'correct' Muslim and Moslem (and Qur' an and Koran) are from different transliteration systems. There can't be a 'correct' because the words are Arabic words and Arabic uses a different type of alphabet than English. Though currently Muslim (and Qur' an) is considered the more accurate version (meaning closing to the actual pronunciation).

  • the only history u need to know is the history your teacher tells u to make u a better practicioner

  • saya rasa kita harus saling menghormati antar sesama aliran kungfu. ustadz wu zhong orang hebat, master wu lianzhi juga orang hebat. wudang, emei, wing chun, tai chi, bagua, xing yi, dan lain lain. semua nya hebat kecuali shaolin kungfu.

  • with all due respect, but it`s a well-known fact, that chinese traders and monks brought their culture including their martial arts to southeast asia including thailand, indonesia and the philippines. that`s exactly the reason why some arnis moves exactly look like wing chun or baji.

  • hsing-yi was developed by daoist hermits and refined by buddhist, not necesssarily shaolin monks. the muslim hui minority happened to learn from the han-chinese.

  • @spartanwarrior1 - The Muslims Hui of Xingjang are the minority of the Muslims in today's Chinese borders. Han Muslims are the majority of Muslims in China, not Hui. Just want to point out that Han are both the largest 'racial' group in China but also not one unified group. Han also have diversity. =)

  • @scafutos Han Muslims?? majority of the Hui Muslims were from Arabia and elsewhere in western Asia, only a minority are Han Chinese and Mongolian converts

  • @aviationyu Yes. Historically when Han Chinese converted, the Han considered them henceforth "Hui". The Manchu stopped this progress (maybe confusing to them since they were not Han, or didn't have a similar view of the Hui). So Muslim Han from that era-onward continued to be considered Han (which they were of course). This is totally separate from Mongolians, and others. Also Hui are definitely NOT from Arabia. They converted through Arabs from Arabia, but a 'far asian' people, not Mideast...

  • @scafutos ''Han converted muslims'' were the minority in Hui Muslims, majority of the Huis were historically from Arabia and other areas of West Asia, you can' deny this as it is historically and scientifically proven,Huis have very high Arabian and West Asian DNA compared to Han Chinese and Mongolians.

  • @scafutos Many Mongolian muslim converts and Southeast Asia Muslim emigrants in China became Huis muslims as well.So Huis are basically a mixed people, with majority of the origins in Arabia and West Asia, and a minority with origins from Han Chinese,Mongolians and Southeast Asia Muslims.

  • How do you ppl understand the documentary? :S It's in chinese :S

  • yu suzuki!!!

  • lol, but baji ain`t a muslim invention. it was taught to a few muslims. it`s still strictly chinese.

  • it can still be muslim even though its chinese

  • but i was talking about the heritage. baji`s founder was definitely not muslim but somehow chinese muslims grew fond of it in the past centuries.

  • Bajiquan's creator, Wu Zhong, was a Muslim. He also created the style Piguaquan.

  • lol, there are plenty versions about the origins of baji. according to some chinese scholars it`s a modification of hsing yi. on the other hand, a few believe it derives from shaolin etc.

i rather believe that chinese taoists or buddhists taught the original version of baji to muslims (non-hans).

"Shaolin is home to all Eastern martial arts."

  • oh the earliest version of baji is supposed to have been invented by a wandering taoist monk...

  • @spartanwarrior1

Baiji is Chinese of course, but it's from the Chinese Muslim community. You do know that there are Muslims of every culture, right? It's not an Arab or nothing situation.

  • @ScholarsInk if u studied baji`s history properly, u`d know its roots are taoistic.

  • @spartanwarrior1 also true thats like saying real jujitsu is brizilian

  • @spartanwarrior1 dumbass...the mother of that art is a muslim and was only his style...check out and read dont comment without knowledge...

  • they all have Shandong accent, hehe

  • Allahu Akbar! The Islamic History in China is a beautiful one.

  • i love baji but i only know english so this is hard...

  • Great documentary, thank you for posting! Too bad the quality of the video is not too consistent, part of the video is only in audio.

  • thats not sparring

  • He's moslem/muslim?

  • And who are you dare to speak that Wu baji family is a crap! Something that clear to me is that you're unworthy to learn about baji quan nor other martial art, because they wont let people arrogant like you to learn it, because all martial art teaches us about anarrogancy and be humble.

  • And who are you dare to speak that Wu baji family is a crap! Something that clear to me is that you're unworthy to learn about baji quan nor other martial art, because they wont let people arrogant like you to learn it, because all martial art teaches us about anarrogancy and be humble.

  • Everyone who learn baji quan is the bearer of baji quan itslef, like someone who learn knowledge of something, then he must be the bearer of that knowledge. I don't realy care who's the bearer of the baji quan, but the point is Master Wu mastered it and he worth respected !

  • i liked the documentary, the only problem is that during the minutes 9:39~9:49, the descriptions are actually from bruce lee's tao of JKD book! WTH?!?

  • Wierd, I actually met his niece, too. Apparently, his closest students are from Russia.

  • In short, what they are to traditional Baji is like what full-contact karate is to traditional karate. They use modern style to keep up with the middle range fight instead of Piguazhang. By the way xiangzhui is a technique only retained in Moslim Baji not in Han people's Baji.

  • They don't look like one but they are really Baji guys. Why? Because they use Baji technique as their core fighting style. They often open a fight by jab/low-kick, and then move closer to the opponent in a great speed by left straight (right-hander's case) simultaneously with a huge stride of half step followed by xiangzhui(right straight with half step) in a combination in order to engage in the Baji traditional extreme close-combat.

  • That dojo is a pretty rare kind because it attempts to find out the practical way to use traditional Baji technique effectively against modern martial arts such as full-contact karate, kick-boxing and so on. The guy's style looked like kick-boxing because of the adjustments they made for that purpose.

  • The guy in the protector is a Japanese Baji practitioner from a school (or dojo) directed by a Japanese guy who learned Baji with Master Wu Lianzhi from Lianzhi's father. Master Wu was just demonstrating the usage of that particular Baji close-combat technique to a bunch of Japanese students from that dojo.

  • in the video Wu Lien Chi mentioned "BaJi Practitioners should not be other's body guards, should not be other's 'dogs'!". doesn't that mean Li SHu Wen's 1st disciple Huo Dien Ge and last student Liu Yun Qiao were being others' dogs? To me the one who sold baji quan to make all the japanese video games was really the dog.

  • i don't think baji is a patented intellectual property. I'm sure japanese game makers can do their own research and just incorporate baji into their game regardless of if you let them or not. I can see where he's comming from though. For someone who should be as respected as a master of baji, being a body gaurd is a bit degrading. Dog may be stretching it.

  • agreeed with you

  • The term 'dog' was probably used as a hyperbole. People learn martial arts for different purposes.

  • The japanese stole Bajiquan during WW2. They call it Hakkyoku-ken, In japan.

  • Stupid! That's how Japanese pronounce Baji-quan. BTW, what the hell do you mean they stole it? They kidnapped a Baji-quan master, then made him teach it to Japanese, or stole a Baji-quan textbook? Hehehehe~ You're watching B Kung-Fu movie from Hong Kong too much.

  • please put the other part of the video!xie xie

  • The meeting with the TKD guy was in Korea during the Worldcup football (soccer). China had lost and just after this the TKD guy was 'polite' challanging mister Wu. So... they went on and the TKD guy ended up down on the floor

  • at the end of the clip he tried hands with the Korean TKD guy, it was just a short demo of his countering a few TKD attacks, want reallya sparring.

  • don't be calling his dialect funky chinese. He is my teacher's master, have some respect.

  • The Sega game is Virtua Fighter.

The character that knows Bajiquan is, Akira Yuki.

    Check it.

  • NOOOOO!!!!! why the crappy video when he's sparring in the end?! The video dies!!!!

  • lol

  • since the video dies, and without the subtitles, i really can't understand his funky chinese, what actually happens when he sparrs the tae kwon do guy?

  • To be honest I don't know, this is all I have of the clip.

  • He uses his funky style to kick his funky ass!

  • @ace52387

it is about a long story

  • @ace52387 That little clip is from Korean docu series "Seeking Masters". Look it up. It's a very good docu series on Martial arts in general and it features masters of various arts. And it wasn't a full sparring. Merely a demonstration. They were very respectful of each other and their styles.
