  • for some reason I can totally picture the Beatles doing this song

  • I totally agree that the song itself was great enough to be its own track, I believe I've discovered this part of the song on the Classic Rock station on Music Choice

  • seventh sojourn is also brilliant evry track.'you and me' is awesome i agree.

  • ...all the things that come back...my uncle listening to this...all the faces and voices are right in front of me...i can feel the 1968 sun!!

  • Prolific !

  • Fantastic...

  • Even though this was the MB second album, it's really the first, considering Hayward and Lodge just joined. Most bands take several years to develop a solid sound. The Blues hit it right out of the gate. I was never much of a MB fan when I was younger, but now that I listen many years late, it's amazing how well this music stands the test of time.

  • One of my favorite albums =) I spent many a lofty day of my childhood with a cassette dad recorded for me, one side Days of Future Passed, the other Question of Balance. The cassette is now lost, but the memories live on =)

  • I can´t understand why a band having such a majority of his fans wanting to hear their "original" 7 Core sound (even the younger )don´t do it properly!! How wonderful would be having Pinder and Thomas again and doing live - finally - clear and good performances of whole portions of TOCCC or any other of the 7!! Imagine this with great graphics and the Phil Travers covers background!! Well, maybe is too late for this lost dream concert...

  • John Lodge s magistral moment having written the lyrics and doing lead vocals and backing falsetto. This band is amazing. Days Of Future Passed is a timeless masterpiece. classy lads. tks for the upload. peace...

  • "trött på att slita hårt" kvällen

  • this song is so beautiful! it's not even music!

  • brilliant .... there's another version of this .... i've heard it!

  • hermosa, preciosa melodia, para realmente llenar corazones, y para tocar y mover el alma, gloria ¡ a moody blues forever.

  • Agreed, NC. Strong enough on its own. All good but then remember how so many musical artists of the era did those very same kinds of "combinations." (We must forgive them, as we all know what acidheads they were :-p)

Thank You for your contribution, NC.

I for one appreciate hearing this tune and not having to put up with the horrendous sound quality posted by kids & other noobs, clowns, & other know-nothings.

  • I find groups like Opeth to fulfill my thirst for ethereal music which was instilled when i listened to 'Evening'.

Too bad this is the CD, not the original vinyl. The CD is missing incredible harmony tracks which can only be heard on vinyl.

  • This was the first Moody Blues album that I ever listened too, I was only 7 years old at the time, and would listen to it over and over again.

  • Listening to this track is almost a religious experience. I firmly believe the Moody Blues had some inspiration of the divine, during these years. I never get tired of listening to this stuff.

It's almost as if it's a hymnal of some sort, transcending the ages, just like a "classic" should be.

  • @DerGlaetze

I agree. Unless I'm wrong "seventh sojourn ....you and me" makes it clear:>

  • @karl822

Oh yes. That's another one! So true. I have that one also.

  • Great song, thanks for uploading

  • Great musicianship - beautiful song!!

  • Oh how I love this song!! The Moody Blues are such a phenomenal band full of true beauty!! This song just gets so deep into my heart and soul. I can feel every note in my heart. The Moody Blues are a band all their own. They can never be matched!! I grew up on this band and they truly impacted my life with their ever so beautiful melodies. Their music has touched so many souls through the years and continue to do so today. Beautiful, just beautiful!! The Moodies forever my friends!! ♥

  • It's "dark, moody and melancholy" in the same way The Byrds' "Everybody's Been Burned" is.

  • Another fantastic track off a fantastic album. This album got a bum rap in comparison with their contemporaries in '67 because of the strings and the lush sounds et. Much like "Pet Sounds" was ignored a bit at the time for similar reasons. The other bands were making psychedelic rock albums, but this like Pet Sounds is a melodic masterpiece of a production. Nights in White Satin was re-released as a single in the early 70s and it was a smash then. Nights, Tues Aft and this, Dawn, spine-tingling

  • Evening Time to Get Away gives ears a lot of lush textures and colors. The modulation at--live all you people--points brilliantly yet simply to the shift twixt day and night -- This tune has its own intricacies and personality distinct from the other song/ tunes -- that is the brilliance of this concept album -- Days harkens back to the vast expansive concepts of classic masterworks such as The Seasons from both Vivaldi and Haydn. Days tunes us into an broad awareness of a 24-hour living scale.

  • Another timeless song from the best. No-one ever did it better!

  • Evening is freakin Great

  • Beautiful.

  • is this john lodge on lead vocals?

  • @frankho99 Yes it is, and one of the few songs where he sang lead vocals. Usually, he sang with the other members of the group in unison.

  • I wonder what would have happened if they had done their entire Core 7 with an orchestra behind them. I guess we'll never know. This is my favorite album from any group. It's good music, and it reminds me of my childhood, considering that's when it came out.

  • love it,

  • thanks! had a hard time finding this one, and your right, its better as a song on its own.

  • You are quite welcome!

  • Best to listen to this album at night.

  • Another great song from the early days with more than a hint of Syd Barret thrown in to the mix.

  • jeffdawg611...Its great that your dad gave you a "bridge" to him...with such great music....

  • I know this is debateable but i truly beleifve this is John Lodges FIBNETS piece of song writing. He never wrote another eatheral, DARK, moody, melancholy song again....too much money makes it hard to write DARK songs....

  • The moody blues are god to me. they seriously have all the answers in their songs. Im 23 my dad got me into this. he recentley passed away. When i hear them he's with me.

  • @jeffdawg611 My dad got me into them as well..... when I listen to them, all I remember is the good times I spent with my dad. It's bittersweet, but I'm thankful he instilled their music in my life.

  • This song is a dream. Inspirational indeed.

  • The Moody Blues give me inspiration.

  • !!!! :) :) :) :) !!!

  • No, Ray Thomas isn't dead. He merely retired from the band in 2003, I think it was. He just got married back in July in Wales, so he's obviously alive and kickin'! :)

  • I remember when I was in high school. I bought the greatest hits on casette and I always wished that I had this one instead just for this song.

  • most amazing music ever created

  • Nothing like older Moody Blues!

  • That is true! Their best material is from the Pinder, Thomas, Edge, Logde and Hayward era aka Core 7 or Classic Lineup. The were still good with Patrick Moraz in the band, but have not been the same ever since he left. Now they took another blow with the retirement or Ray Thomas. Hayward and Lodge should do another Blue Jays project. That partnership gave us soom very good but quite mellow music.

  • you all know that the great Ray Thomas has joined Timothy Leary in his wildest dreams?

  • What an uplifting song at the end of a day.

    love it

  • This song reminds me a little of Pretty Things' S.F. Sorrow

  • WHY oh WHY have they NEVER played this song LIVE???? This might be John Lodge's second greatest song after ISn't Life Strange (and I am not sure who wrote mos tof I'm Just a Singer....) but this is a track they should have played LIVE over 40 years..WHY NOT? I mean-aren't they SICK of playing RIDE MY SEE SAW ?? And what exactly does RIDE MY SEE SAW mean LOL???

  • I agree that this is one of John Lodge's finest songs. They possibly never played this song live because of the background orchestra, and that it was not a hit. It would have been nice if they played this song live at least once. I'm Just a Singer in a Rock n Roll Band was written by Lodge. They all sing lead, because his voice is better suited to harmony vocals than to lead vocals.

  • what album can I find this song on or even the double song with Tuesday Afternoon?

  • This song and Tuesday Afternoon are on the album Days of Future Passed. It was released in November of 1967. Also, it is the first of their Core 7 albums with the classic lineup of Pinder,Thomas, Edge, Lodge and Hayward.

  • yes, it`s time to get away, happy memorial day people

  • One of my favorite moodys songs, a much unappreciated piece

  • My sentiments exactly/

  • Great fuckin track

  • I have to say it's one of the best the Moody Blues ever done. That because if I said the best that would cover just about every song they ever touched.

  • The Moody Blues classic line-up of Hayward, Lodge, Edge, Pinder and Thomas was awesome. The original Moodies and the line-up with Patrick Moraz were both good. Now they are just sadly running on Auto-pilot as a trio.

  • Maybe they are on autopilot, but so are the Stones, Fleetwood Mac, and everyone else from the 60's and 70's. It's still good music. I would rather they continue than hang it up--it is still fun to see them.

  • Hmmm....don't know that I would say that. I just saw them live in August, and can honestly say I enjoyed them as much as I did in 1992 and 1975. I agree with gformyle below - it IS still good music. Their subsequent albums were different, but I found much to commend them. We all have different feelings, that is OK. I too hope they keep comin' around!!

  • absolutely... I love the piano riff before they go into the super high lyrics... Live all you people...

  • Yes, this song shows how talented Mike Pinder really is. His piano, mellotron, and vocals are sorely missed. The band has never been the same without him.

  • I cant agree more on this....at least they should call the man back after all those years....with Mr.Pinder the band had its maestro and coordinator...this man made the sound we all loved...and his marvellous songwriting contributions of course...

  • I do believe that they asked Mike Pinder to come back, but he does not want to rejoin the band. Ray Thomas also left at the end of 2002. They probably wanted Pinder to drop the Eastern Mysticism. John Lodge is a christian, and that would clash with Pinder's beliefs. They should have called it a day after Patrick Moraz was fired in 1990, and reformed the Blue Jays. Hayward and Lodge made some nice music together. The Moodies have only recorded 4 weak albums since then, including one soundtrack.

  • @giorgosdimitriadis With all respect to you, I doubt that Pinder's mysticism and Lodge's Christianity would cause any significant friction. I heard Pinder say in an interview that he and Graeme Edge the drummer had a serious falling-out and never reconciled, and that Pinder is settled and happy in California.

  • Moody Blues.----One of those great 'mellotron' bands from time past.

...Oh yes, like 'days of future past'

    as it were.

  • Oh my god! This is such a good song! I like how they put together rock and classical music! THANKS FOR POSTING THIS!

Oh, by the way, do you have the whole album on your channel?

    -Emily

    :-P You're welcome!

  • You are welcome! I did not put the whole album on this channel, and what I wanted to do was separate these double songs and let them shine on their own. Nights in White Satin and Tuesday Afternoon have gotten so much airplay. The Moodies really did well with putting together rock and classical music and have been one of my favorite groups for many years.

  • Nice to hear this broken out from Tuesday Afternoon. Thanks. I only wish that the original vinyl version was released on CD. The Hayward backing vocals are sorely missed on the middle 8 of this song. I'm clueless as to why these vocals were stripped away for the CD releases.

  • You are welcome! I did not know about the backing vocals by Hayward. I do agree that it would have been nice to hear Justin's vocals in this song. This song should have always been separate from Tuesday Afternoon since it has a different writer and lead vocalist .

  • @dbeatlefreak The original album master tapes had deteriorated after only 10 years, so the album was remixed anew. Although there were numerous improvements (better stereo balance, for one), this remix was not one of them. Why the original mix wasn't a bonus track on the recent deluxe edition is beyond me.

  • You are welcome! John Lodge's voice was in top form in this song. I am glad that many other people wanted this song separated from Tuesday Afternoon like I did. Peace!

  • Yes, I agree with you about John's voice and songs. I think that without Justin and John the Moody Blues probably would not have stayed together after the sixties. Those 2 are the best thing that ever happened to the Moodies and fans like us. However, I do miss Ray Tomas and Mike Pinder. I am happy that this songs is in your playlist!

  • .....one of my fav MB tunes!

  • Thx. It is nice to hear it alone...

  • You are Welcome! I also separated Twilight Time and The Sunset and placed them in a Playlist. My only gripe about this album is that these songs were put together as 1 double song.

  • This and Twilight Time are probably my favorites from this album. They can definitely stand on their own.

  • I added Twilight Time and The Sunset yesterday. These also needed to be separated and were written and sung by 2 different guys. The 3 Moody Blues videos are now in a playlist that i created today.

  • Do you know "the dreamer"? What album is? Thanks again!

  • Yes, The Dreamer is from the remastered album "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour", and was written and sung by Ray Thomas.

Also, check out the song Island from Seventh Sojourn by Justin Hayward, and Mike's Number One from Question of Balance. Look into the albums Blue Jays and Prelude! I may also post The Sun Set and Twilight Time, and can accept requests for more songs. Thank you for you positive comments.

  • Hi,

Yesterday I sent a message to you, but it didn´t go.I see that you are a Moody´s fan like me, although I still didn´t know all about this great band, like you. When they were in the top,(69/71) I just was a child and no had access to his songs.I known them (90´s) in flashbacks cds in Nights in white satin and Tuesday afternoon and from these, I found all the others beautiful songs too. I´m getting download of my favorites (the 2 above, Melacholy Man, What am I doing here...

  • ...Want to be with you, but another 2 beautiful for me is Evening time to get away(separated like in your vídeo) and The dreamer wich both I didn´t get download. For me, they are every good, fine and I stiil had no a favorite member at to know them better. For while love all of them. What a beautiful lyrics, voices and tunes wich fill my soul of a wonderful songs. I realy hear every day. Thank you one more time for this video and your informations.bye. You are rigth became YouTube member.

  • First!

Love this song. Love Moody Blues. I found it separated from Tuesday Afternoon (love too)...Love all Moody songs(I hear every day)

    Thanks!

  • I just recently signed up for a Youtube account with the encouragement of my son aka Pyros897. My favorite Moody Blues member is Mike Pinder. I like all of their songs with him and Patrick Moraz, who I have gotten to appreciate. Pinder really added an intellectual element to their music.

  • Hi Northcarolinian!
