There are no credible, scientifically documented cases of ANY snake swallowingf ANY full grown man. Could a 20 foot snake kill a man? Sure, but swallow a man? No evidence of that as of yet.

@ubit397 a Python & Anaconda are definitely capable of swallowing a human. When a snake opens its mouth, there is no limit as to how far back it can stretch. However, it can only broaden it's mouth to the sides to a certain limit. So if a man were to lay on his side, the snake will be able to swallow him. But if he laid on his back, he would be too broad to be swallowed. There might not be a documented case but its definitely possible.

The broad, rigid shoulders of humans would make it EXCEEDINGLY difficult to get down. Only the LARGEST of snakes could swallow the SMALLEST of men and while there plenty of STORIES about this, there is in fact NO scientific documentation. Possible? REMOTELY at best. Where's the evidence?

The policeman who was on duty that day, came across the snake who had already swallowed the man's head. Unfortunately the man's shoulders were too broad to fit into his mouth. However, had the man been laying on his side, the python would have been successful in swallowing him. The police officer shot the snake. And one more thing, a Python is one of the most aggressive snakes in the world..

The rock Python is loose in south Florida. There was an hour-long program on Discovery about how dangerous they are, because they are very aggressive. There's another huge python or anaconda that's also escaped that's also roaming the south Florida Everglades. People have bought them for pets and when they've become too large, they have let them go. The park rangers have had to instigate hunting events to go in and shoot them.

By the way, it's the Burmese Python in South Florida. They've been here since the '70s.

'attacked' by the Burmese Python were huge druggies and were already known to have a terrible track record with children. Forensic research showed that the marks on her neck were that of HUMAN hands- the parents probably killed the kid. The snake was a cover-up. Of course, information like that never makes it to the news. Giant, man-eating, evil snakes have more appeal than run of the mill crackhead parents.

@antuonchris Except the body shape of Hippos and Antelopes are very much different from that of an adult human. The shoulders are way too broad for the snake to get it's mouth around- in Hippos, the body is very round and the Antelope's is long and narrow. Google is your friend; Animal Planet and Discovery Communications is bullshit.

I own several snakes and can attest to the fact that they can only swallow an animal if it has an overall elongated or round shape.

These snakes are awsome. I really would love to have a large snake, have a few smaller ones now, but I can't take care of one that large safely. Its important for people to know what there getting them selves into. Rock pythons, anacondas and retic pythons are great pets if you have the means to care for them. You really have to know what your doing and have a few people to help you. You cant just give up and let them go like they did in Florida.
