but if you trow in the 2003 cobra with 390hp and 390tq and more that 300tq available at 1500 rpm for 34k it kills anything in that year for less then 60k

A serpentine belt pulled the crank outta my friends 302 and destroyed it. Just because of a faulty alternator pulley. If a belt slipped off of an lt1 the belt would snap or the alternator would rip off the bracket before it ripped the crank out of the block. They are both awesome engines, I own a 302 but you have to give credit where credit is due.

@Marc99GT Yeah you can make it just as fast for half as cheap. I have a Foxbody with a 5.0. They have alot of parts and stuff you can do, but you get too far the cranks always snap. The LT1 is alot stronger of a block STOCK.

I am a car enthusiast, I respect anyone who enjoys doing more than taking their kids to school in a vehicle. I will say, 5k into a honda vs 5k into a gm goes a lot further in the Japanese vehicle. One thing that a Honda especially any of the civic variants up to the EM1 is interchangeability with parts and lets even get into motor swaps [ K20 anyone?]. take a GSR B18C, drop it into a CRX and you have a track monster with minimal upgrades, plenty of power and cheap replacement parts.

I do agree with your other posts. the GT500 engines handle 800+ hp on a regular basis with no problems. One of the quickest GT500s has run 8s on the bone stock engine so you are right in your other posts.

@Marc99GT I figured that's what u meant. My experience with the 4.6 has been running against N/A setups with DSMs (they have been slow). What was your setup on your 4.6? ever dyno it?
@Rockit181 I agree, the 4.6 in N/A form, but you have to remember, those DSMs were running turbos so that helped quite a bit. I dynoed the car once with about about 10-12 psi and it made 488 rwhp & 527 RWTQ. When it ran 10s, we turned the boost up to about 13-14psi so I'm not sure what it was. I was running a protype turbo kit with a T76, 65 lb injectors, Aeromotive fuel system, Accel DFI & other supporting mods. It was an automatic with a 3K stall, shift kit. & 3.73 gears, etc.

Plenty have made over 700 rwhp on the stock engine for years. You will need much more than 10,000 into the engine alone to even have something that would come close to living in the 8s or 9s.

The question is though what fuel will be required to run 10s and how reliabile will the rest of the drivetrain be with a car able to run 10s. I ran 10s in a 99GT auto with less than 10K invested on 93 octane. I didn't want a car that lives on race gas and difficulty passing emissions. Not all 10 second car setups are equal.

@88Tdwp i don't know about a cobra, a regular 2v i will give u that... they are slow, but a 4v cobra is a pretty fast car and if you even remotely mean a terminator cobra you are sadly mistaken
if you look at stock times, the s2k and the GT have very close 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. GT gets a better launch (gotta love the torque) but s2k has high RPM + better HP to weight ratio.
and automatic is preferred in a drag race (usually). manual gets slightly more power, but is easily offset with a slow shift or a bad launch. across the board, automatics are usually faster than their manual counterparts.
@allicedout its probably stock man. its not uncommom for s2000 to beat na v8s. stock 4 stock that is. heaps of factors. s2000 is definately a much more refined car than a mustang. and s2000 isnt 4 speed, its for track use, so it did well
Good question. Watch the video and listen very carefully. When it shifts on 3rd gear at the end of the track, you can clearly tell it's an Auto. A 5 speed would sound very diferently and chirp tires. Also notice that it didn't spin on second gear. You can't avoid it with a 5 speed. Also, being an Auto, the gear ratio is 3.27. Not good and representative of Mustang GTs.
Better for what? I beated these 2 valves 4.6 in f-150s for 300,000km and the body gave up before the engine.... I drive mine quite hard but I have friends who burmed tires until they busted... 4-5 in one evening... I've seen these 4.6 take abuse.. I mean lots.... they have nothing to prove in terms of reliability.
better for building power with just bolt ons. a 3 valve is on par with the 4 valve 99 cobra engine. the 2 valve is not. now if your speaking reliability then yes all are very much so.

@Rockit181 I agree, the 4.6 in N/A form, but you have to remember, those DSMs were running turbos so that helped quite a bit. I dynoed the car once with about about 10-12 psi and it made 488 rwhp & 527 RWTQ. When it ran 10s, we turned the boost up to about 13-14psi so I'm not sure what it was. I was running a protype turbo kit with a T76, 65 lb injectors, Aeromotive fuel system, Accel DFI & other supporting mods. It was an automatic with a 3K stall, shift kit. & 3.73 gears, etc.

@spartan4226 I watched that and the quarter mile time is 13.2...which is pretty horrible for a car close to 500hp. I understand the Vette cost more,but it has less hp than the new Mustang does. There's plenty of 13 second cars under 35 grand and most of them arent v8.

@jessie91011 There is quite a bit of ignorance in that post. The GT500 engine is tons stronger and has run 8s on the stock ENGINE. The video is here of it making over 1,000 rwhp. Plenty have made over 700 rwhp on the stock engine for years. You will need much more than 10,000 into the engine alone to even have something that would come close to living in the 8s or 9s.

@jessie91011 I don't doubt that. I would imagine you could get alot of cars into the 10s for 10K invested in the proper mods that work well together. The question is though what fuel will be required to run 10s and how reliabile will the rest of the drivetrain be with a car able to run 10s. I ran 10s in a 99GT auto with less than 10K invested on 93 octane. I didn't want a car that lives on race gas and difficulty passing emissions. Not all 10 second car setups are equal.

if you look at stock times, the s2k and the GT have very close 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. GT gets a better launch (gotta love the torque) but s2k has high RPM + better HP to weight ratio.
and automatic is preferred in a drag race (usually). manual gets slightly more power, but is easily offset with a slow shift or a bad launch. across the board, automatics are usually faster than their manual counterparts.

Good question. Watch the video and listen very carefully. When it shifts on 3rd gear at the end of the track, you can clearly tell it's an Auto. A 5 speed would sound very diferently and chirp tires. Also notice that it didn't spin on second gear. You can't avoid it with a 5 speed. Also, being an Auto, the gear ratio is 3.27. Not good and representative of Mustang GTs.

Better for what? I beated these 2 valves 4.6 in f-150s for 300,000km and the body gave up before the engine.... I drive mine quite hard but I have friends who burmed tires until they busted... 4-5 in one evening... I've seen these 4.6 take abuse.. I mean lots.... they have nothing to prove in terms of reliability.
