How to Manually Update the Samsung Epic 4G to Stock EL30 Gingerbread

Thanks for all your videos...used several of them. I have a problem with two of my Epic 4Gs. I am trying to update to EL30, but it errors out. The only thing is I have is ACS recovery and the GPS fix. I returned the GPS to the old file so that the update would work..but it doesn't. How do I get pack to the Stock recovery program vs. ACS recovery? (without losing all data on phone)

I managed to fix it following what Kennyglass123 said. I loaded it into Odin (I forgot I had a failed Root and thought my phone was stock). I reset back to froyo, then updated to EI22 then to EL30 and everything's peachy. ^^

hey qbking, the update of this always comes up in my epic, and i press on install, then it takes me to a screen to download it, bu then it automatically stops and theres an icon of a triangle and a exclamation mark in the middle of it like if its an error. my phone is rooted and is on ei22. do you know what it wrong?

@TheEtherael Is it possible you rooted and installed a GPS or keyboard fix? Try to Odin back to EC05 stock and accept the OTA's to EI22 and then to EL30.

@TheEtherael I have the same exact problem. I've tried updating a few times and I keep getting that error while it's downloading. I've tried manually updating and the update that Sprint sent out and neither of them worked.

UPDATE: Regarding my previous question post, I found the fix to the glitch from upgrading to Gingerbread.EL30 on my Samsung Epic 4G (Sprint)...

The fix is to go to the MENU, then SETTINGS, then CALL SETTINGS, then REJECT WITH MESSAGE... Once you get here, the likelihood is that there are more than 5 reject messages... Any message not needed should be deleted. Once that is complete, power down, restart, and test. All should be well.

I have the same phone, Samsung Epic 4G; I updated this morning, and now when someone calls in, there's no caller id, and the screen goes black... Are you aware of any glitches? Also, would it help if I reload the software? Thanks!

@Brennandh7777 I haven't heard of any of those issues.... You might have to do a factory reset...

Alt, tools, folder options, view, and then uncheck "hide extensions for known file types". If you knew that, sorry. I just thought I would point that out.

@andreewoodson very shortly. As far as removing apps, sdx app removal tool or Titanium Backup are best. Of course you need root for either.

I did this update from my phone without a computer. Just used the myfiles app and change the file name to 'update' and it worked perfect. Was at a bar watching the playoffs using their wifi

@loloent305 There is no tar file for going back to stock EI22, You have to Odin to EC05 then accept the first OTA to go to stock EI22. If you go to XDA-Developers forum in the Samsung Epic Development forum in the top in the "stickies" you will see a thread "How to restore a semi-bricked Epic...", The EC05 stock tar file is in the first post as well as instructions.
