  • the southern box has hatches for Kaolin loads that the reason for the roofwalk

  • I like Cabeeses best. Not cabooses. Not cabeese. Cabeeses. 

  • The ETD means that the cabooses are probably unmanned. In addition to lighting up the rear, the ETD radios the air pressure at the rear of the train to the crew in the cab ot the locomotive. There is an air pressure gauge in a caboose, which is worthless without someone to read it, & report it back to the engineer when requested. Has anybody found that boxcar with the roofwalk?

  • @thecarolinamudcat - Look at 2:31, you can see the leading edge of the walkway.

  • I did some research, & roofwalks were no longer placed on new boxcars in 1966, & were originally mandated to be removed on existing boxcars without hatches by April 1, 1974, but was extended until 1979. If you pay attention, there is a boxcar in original Southern paint with a full ladder & visible roofwalk following a string of tank cars followed by a string of hoppers. This is even a rarer sight nowdays than a caboose!

  • There's something else here that I thought was long gone; a boxcar with a roofwalk.

  • The EOTD defeates the purpose of the cabooses. Take that device off the train!!

  • Blasphemy NS! How dare they replace the Conrail S3L horns!! Ah well, at least it's a K5LA on there and not the new junk found on GEVO's and ACE's. Nice catch BTW, real rare to see even one caboose trailing a train anymore, let alone two, outside of locals and yard shifts.

  • I think that was power for the tie train, or maybe it was a local, anyway it just sat there and never went by me.

  • I think the plural is Cabeese. LoL. Those Dept of Defence cabeese are used when something is on the train that requires federal agents to ride along with the crew. And in the cab of the locomotives.

  • I think the [federal agents] were visiting Allentown, because 36Q is destined to Allentown, and in my next video, 34A has these same cabeese, 34A originates in Allentown, then I think these cabeese went on a High and Wide movement out of Enola, so who knows, but it was something different to see!
