@TheMacgrurry- Creed had already left the group by the time this song was out. There is one picture on this video of Creed. It is at 1:26 to 1:46- he is at the far right as you look at it. He is the only one wearing sunglasses! Ron
@TheMacgrurry- oops- there he is again towards the end of the video at 2:13 to the end of the video. He again is at the far right as you look at the video!

are all of the members still alive? I read in another post that someone in the band died of bone disease, he would be 68 this Nov 2011. I think his name was Rob
@XYtruck25- two of the original members of the Grass Roots who had the big hits from 1965 to 1969 have died. Rob Grill the lead singer on almost all of the hits died in July of 2011. Rick Coonce who was the drummer passed away in February of 2011. Rob had a few physical issues but he died from a head injury. Ron
Rob Grill (bass and lead vocal) died. Seems Rick Coonce, the drummer died a couple years ago. This was my favorite band, from when I first heard "Let's Live for Today" in 1967. Funny, I met and partied with them when they played Western Washington College in the winter of '69. I was 19 and pretty stoked to meet your them, before the concert and after. Goldhunter.
I not only miss this music, but I miss the wonderful, pre-teen 'joy of life that I and my friends used to have. Hanging out by the river. Impromptu baseball in our frontyards. Flirting with our favorite neighborhood girls. Pre-teen puppy love angst. and pubescent pre-sexual stirrings. Mom's cookies passed out to the friends. Looking forward to school starting again and busrides to school with the 'Oldies," playing on the radio. O God, I miss that!
Wow! So many postings for this great group, sorry to hear about the recent passing of Nick, the drummer and Rob Grill too! I can remember this song back in the day, but recently to be in Love again, and to sing a few bars to my babe and then also hear a few bars back... sooner or later, best wishes to all Grassroots fans!!!
So sad to hear of Rob's passing. This is my favorite Grass Roots song. Great beat and loads of hooks. It was easy to tell which one was Rob. He was the only one with facial hair for most of the group's history. He was in pain due to a bone disease and needed numerous hip replacements. His suffering is now over. RIP, Mr. Grill. Thanks for all the classic tunes you guys put out.
R.I.P. Rob Grill. Great songwriter in a great band who wrote great hits that everybody loved. This song (Sooner or Later) brings back memories of the late 60s -early 70s and the pop hit parade that existed on AM radio back then. This song was used on the Wonderama childrens' sunday morning program as part of a disco-dance contest (disco had a different meaning back in '71). Kids from the audience would get up and dance and the finalists would be in a "dance-off" usually dancing to this song.
These guys had some strong vocals. Good music will always prevail. Rock, And Roll Heaven calls up another great performer. These angels are always alive in our memories. Rest In Peace Rob.
Played a show with Rob and the 1981 lineup and partied after the show-maybe before as well. Down to earth guy and he sang his little heart out that night. Long Island got a show that night.
RIP ROB!!! You were the best and my first crush and love in a band. You'll be surrounded with other greats. I feel like I am 12 again and someone just told me Justin Bieber died. My heart is broken. You'll always be with your fans!♥♥♥♥
my sympathies for your grandad, my pappy ans mom went to heaven!! hey m,aybe they met your grandad and are singing the lords praises toghther, wouldn'y that be the coolest, god bless and PEACE ALL
Man this song brings back memories. Just started HS, times were great. You cant listen to this song without tappin your feet and feeling good. Great ,great music back in the 60s & 70s. You could actually understand what they were saying! Bands had to have talent back then. They only had 3 minutes on AM to grab you or they were gone for good. Thats why 40 yrs later you still hear them played. Timeless. I just hope the teens today go back and look at some of the GREAT bands we had ,you will LIKE!
Respond to this video... Ron Grill the lead singer of Grass Roots has died of a stroke,he was only 67yrs old..My heart goes out to his family.Rock on Rob.
WOW DOES THIS BRING BACK MEMORIES,I HAD ONE OF THE ALBUMS BY THE GRASSROOTS,AND I WAS LIKE 12 I PLAYED THEM OVER AND OVER AND EVEN GOT TO ROLLER SKATE TO THEM IN MY YOUNGER YRS
@adorablemuffin98 I saw your Grandpa in Fort Wayne, Indiana in the 80's and it was a great concert! Sorry for you loss. If you are musically talented, get busy!
Sounds Cliche', but they Dont make them like this anymore. This is music. Made you feel good, you could sing along with it, ride with the top down summertime music. Thats why 40 yrs later we are still singing them. I am thankfull I was a teen back in the late 60s early 70s. They were some great times, great music, and great friends.
What an amazing song! I was probably 4 years old when this song came out. Always loved it! God, they don't make 'em like this anymore. You can't resist the positive, spirited energy and melody.
Hey! It's the summer of 1971 again!!! Mini-bike riding, Stickball, Slot-car racing in my friend basement, watching my pop working on his 1964 AMC Rambler and cursing at it in the driveway. Wish I could step back for one day!!!
@ChihuahuaboyDH Once you have had your fill of heartless, soul-less, almost music-less music of the present, you naturally ask-after hearing " Temptation Eyes " or " Sooner or Later " or the better versions of " Summer Wine "- why did THE MUSIC die ? I think it goes beyond the talent of the individual-no matter how gifted. It's the Zeitgeist. Real art is radical and revolutionary. When the spirit of wholesome rebellion dies, great art dies. The music died in 1973- but I await Resurrection !
@rwells47 I remember this song. I was about 9 or 10 yrs old when I first heard it. I'm thankful for YouTube for posting all kinds of videos so I can check out stuff I haven't heard in years.
@Trumuzicfan192- I agree with you! The group did use some of the Motown sound in their later recordings. Their songs used a horn section to make the sound richer. I can envision the Four Tops or another Motown group singing this song! Ron
@deesman623- the drummer on this song is Rick Coonce who left the group later in 1971. The drummer who replaced him was Joel Larson ( who was with the group in 1965 and later rejoined the group in 1971). Rick Coonce was with the band from 1966 to late 1971. Ron
@deesman623- you are talking about the band Creed. We are talking about Creed Bratton who was a guitarist for the group the Grass Roots. Creed went on later to have a role on the TV show "The Office". I hope that clears up the confusion! Ron
@rwells47 i feel like an idiot now! Sorry about that. I just saw the name Creed, and I thought of the Rock/Post grunge band. Either way, I like this song so much. What other music do you like?
@Bigrobkerr-I like classic rock. Groups like Tommy James & the Shondells, The Hollies, Lobo, Tommy Roe, Johnny Rivers, the Little River Band etc. I especially like the music from the 60s and the British invasion groups. I think there is good music in the late 50s and into the 70s. But like you said there is less good music into the 90s and 2000s in my opinion. Ron
@sittingonapillar No I know for a fact he is not. They were honestly not even born when this song came out..sorry. Creed is a post grunge band, Grass roots are not. This song is from 71..creed members were born right after that. Creed sings "arms wide open" "one" "My sacrifice" :)
@Bigrobkerr- you are talking about the band Creed. We are talking about Creed Bratton who was a guitarist for the group the Grass Roots. Creed went on later to have a role on the TV show "The Office". I hope that clears up the confusion! Ron
This is when music was music, people could really sing and play, and you knew what the hell they were saying. The songs left a good feeling inside you, and still do after all these years. Now the shit thats out is all about beatin up yo bitch and killin cops. Fucking pure garbage, and the assholes that sing it. I thank God I was a teenager back then and not now. Sorry about the language, but Im sick of hearing the crap today.
thnks for bringing back such wonderful memories of my teens in the 70's..i know exactly what i was doing when this song was playing..it just takes me straight back to the skating rink..w/lights low and slow skating w/the absolute love of my life..i just love having this awesome music to take me back to a time when i had it made and didnt know it...

deesman623 1 year ago
@deesman623- the drummer on this song is Rick Coonce who left the group later in 1971. The drummer who replaced him was Joel Larson ( who was with the group in 1965 and later rejoined the group in 1971). Rick Coonce was with the band from 1966 to late 1971. Ron

anyone know if creed is singing in this song?
sittingonapillar 1 year ago
@sittingonapillar Nah, creed was more the '90s.
deesman623 1 year ago
@deesman623-actually Creed left in 1969.

Bigrobkerr 1 year ago
@Bigrobkerr-I like classic rock. Groups like Tommy James & the Shondells, The Hollies, Lobo, Tommy Roe, Johnny Rivers, the Little River Band etc. I especially like the music from the 60s and the British invasion groups. I think there is good music in the late 50s and into the 70s. But like you said there is less good music into the 90s and 2000s in my opinion. Ron

@sittingonapillar- no Creed is NOT singing in this song. He left the group in 1969 and this was recorded in 1971. Ron

@rwells47 Ah, I see. Thanks for the info.

@sittingonapillar- some people are confusing the band Creed with Creed Bratton who was a guitarist with the Grass Roots from 1966 to 1969. Ron
rwells47 1 year ago
@rwells47 Creed was not a part of this band. They were not even born in 69'.. Their hits were released in the late 90's and the 2000's
Bigrobkerr 1 year ago
@sittingonapillar No I know for a fact he is not. They were honestly not even born when this song came out..sorry. Creed is a post grunge band, Grass roots are not. This song is from 71..creed members were born right after that. Creed sings "arms wide open" "one" "My sacrifice" :)

Fantastic - I believe this is one of the great many (nearly 35,000 in total!) tracks recorded with legendary session drummer Hal Blaine
