this version is a bit hard to get because of the sound. Listen to the version on her album "Trailer Park". It's about the saddest song ever, tugs on the heartstrings. Not for everbody, but if you like music with an emotional gutcheck, a classic.
The ronettes sang it without the spirit it was written in. The ronettes rendition was flat and emotionless, whereas Beths version is full of emotion (to the point in this vid where she cant finish it cos she`d start crying)
The Ronettes -- are the Ronettes... Quintessential for the time.... they were good at what they do. But.... FOR my money -- I'll take Beth's version any day.. as you say FULL of Emotion, it touches me deeply- what music should do.
She would have finished it if she wasnt going to cry.
I was suprised, and dissapointed, that the Ronettes, not Beth wrote this, though Beth made it very much her own, and I bet its way better than the original.
Like Eva Cassidy, all Beth Orton needs is a guitar, if that. Eva was SLIGHTLY better, and was the best female artist ever.
I must have listened to this well over 100 times now and EVERY SINGLE TIME I have tears rolling down my face - there is so much emotion in her voice to match the desperately sad lyrics. No other rendition of any other song comes close to that for me. It is a beautiful, beautiful song - beautifully sung and almost unrecognisable from the original by the Ronettes. Outstanding...
This is possibly one of my favourite songs ever.. It's a shame people are talking, but then it's a nice contrast to the sheer sad, desperation of the song. That a person can feel these things in the midst of the 'throng'.. she's amazing, I'm waiting for her to tour the UK.
Gosh, you people in the audience! This is the legendary Beth Orton. Even the ambulance has enough thought to take the noise elsewhere. Show some respect, why don't you.
every day is just like the day before,
all alone a million miles from shore............

Truly, truly awful. I can't believe she turned such a great, emotional Ronnettes song, into this bland mess.

Five stars all the way. Radio Paradise turned me onto her and I've been a fan ever since.
