  • Where is periphery? :'(

  • hydrodjent sounds cool. thanks for saving me alot of time by sorting through all this djent stuff. I love meshuggah. Can you not accept that they invented a genre? Be thankful

  • Meshuggah still blows my mind way more than these "djent" bands, DESTROY ERASE IMPROVE MUTHA FUCKA YEEEEEEUH

  • Bermuda?.... Volumes?.... :\... ripped off.. I would say Meshuggah and Periphery.... But that is just flogging a dead horse :P

  • Okay, time for a:

HE SAID IN THE DESCRIPTION "here's some of the good djent bands ive heard, hope you appreciate it"

Noticed the "djent bands I'VE HEARD"... -.-

  • over half of the comment are about Meshuggah or Periphery :D

  • come on haug900 as a massive meshuggah fan we should be proud that they have named a genre after them.. they will always be the kings of djent no matter what these cats call djent

  • Meshuggah isn't here, because?

  • sorry but... why is Periphery not in there? too "commercial" for you?

  • whats the name of that circles song? :O

  • circles is amazing.

  • Dudes, for further original THINK-tracks check out my uploads.

    Greetz, think

  • Where the Fuck was Northlane?

  • @TheSteelHeathen It's metalcore, not djent :)

  • Fuck traces is so fucking groovy.

  • This wack is so Djent it like blows out my gig ears

  • IN EXILE

  • periphery is the number 1

  • vildhjarta

  • RevolDJENTtion

  • where the helll can i find the last song in its entirety?

  • I don't consider djent a genre, it's just a guitar playing technique/sound, if djent is a genre than I guess tremolo picking is a genre.

  • @TehKrakerzGuy Djent is a genre based on the sound just like many other genres. Like anything electronic. But its a very vague genre and often miscategorized.

  • 1. Meshuggah

    2. Periphery

    3. TesseracT

    4. Textures

    5. Animals as leaders

In my opinion :) Djent <3

  • Why isn't Meshuggah here? they invented it. no Meshuggah, no Djent.

  • lol someone didn't like being called a deathcore band so they start to say its djent lol but ether way djent deathcore both mean the same. few dudes half assing it on gutiar and never playing solo's and just feeling in with chugga chugga tugga tug chug.

  • @xWeaponMx ha ha sooooooooo true, thats wat the guitarist in my band used to do, gets OLD fast.

  • @xWeaponMx actually alot of deathcore bands do guitar solos look up all shall perish man hell even suicide silence does solos man,not all deathcore is bad but I will agree that alot of it is generic and sounds the same I perfer death metal and melodeath

  • @TheDeathMetalOtaku lol i know who all shall perish is but there is more that dont then do and most of the solos that asp have done arn't to special i haven't heard the new guys stuff but when chris was in it the solos were just fast. i've been to mroe the one show were and deathcore band gets up on stage and i tell my buddy that i dont know them but i can guess the breakdown pattern.

  • I barely liked this bullshit when it was just Meshuggah. This is uninspired rubbish.

  • Metalcore breakdowns.

  • Is, The Contortionist, considered Djent?

  • @CoreThrasherGLB

    no. its technical deathcore.

  • @666Winterdemon666 Oooooo, The Contortionist is also slower paced then technical deathcore it seems although they compose complex time signatures. They are also very melodic and there's a substantial amount of clean guitars and clean vocals in their music. Technical deathcore can have those musical qualities as well?

  • @CoreThrasherGLB

well it has some progressive death elements. its not only technical deathcore. little mistakes by me sorry

  • i think i am the only person who doesn't know djent before this....i am totally in love with it!!!!! especially vildhjarta =)

  • Grooooooovy.

  • So... Somebody suddenly decides too call, what Meshuggah has been doing for the last 15 years "djent-metal" ? Jippofucks

  • @Haug900 Yep, Mårten Hagström himself named it that very thing, if i recall correctly.. in a lesson or interview he was asked 'why do you like that tone' or 'why do you like that type of playing' so much (i cant remember which one), Mårten Hagström replied 'because it goes 'djent djent dj-djentdj-dj- djent...' Or something along those lines :) (p.s not to be a dick, just to make the point a random somebody didn't come up with the name... for once)

  • @Haug900 You can look at it that way or you can say that Meshuggah invented/inspired a whole new genre.

  • Comment removed

  • @Haug900 meshuggah are djent-metal like it or not

there was a free cd on the metalhammer magasine called djent with the best djent-metal bands and meshuggah was inthe cd

  • @Haug900 It sounds exactly like that to me. Every one of these sounds like Meshuggah to me. So I wonder what Meshuggah has to say about having someone call their genre something lame like djent.

  • Comment removed

  • @Haug900 and to be honest, its good that all of this has become djent, as it is a lot easier to find bands when they are classified within sub-genres.

  • @Haug900 The somebody youre talking about is Meshuggah. Moron.

  • @conroy91 Dont recall Meshuggah labeling themselves DJENT metal.. Meshuggah is alot more than a "djent" guitar tone. Maybe i should label Deathmetal "klick-metal", based on the sound of the bassdrum?

  • @Haug900 Kick-Metal new subgenre, sky is the limit for those niggerous sub genres.

pretty sure they invented the sub genre so i could google the unexplainable.

  • @Haug900 HOW could anyone argue the existance of sub genres, are you fucking retarded ? compulsive retards who dont think for the win.

  • @Haug900 yes, something gets popular and it is given a name to be more easily identified. why is that such a difficult concept for you hipster fucks?

  • @reaperinred11 Whats popular or not; i dont call myself anything else than a metalhead. Nextup 2012: "emo-dubstep-djent-tapping-core" , im really looking forward to that genre...

  • @Haug900, too true, if you dont like it.. nobody is forcing it into your ears! If i dig it ill listen to it regardless of genre. Ill enjoy the music, come let me know when everyone else is done debating what style it is haha.

  • @Haug900 It's been referred to as "djent" for quite awhile, but hasn't been officially titled as a sub-genre till recently.

  • @Haug900 If we don't label the things we like how will we find it? Djent is just a label used to describe a particular sound and or type of music. Same with "Classical" music. It may not be "classic" it might have been produced yesterday, yet it's a label we use to designate that style of music. It's the same with thrash metal, dubstep, drum and bass, blue grass, country, jazz etc. Music evolves. Get over it.

  • @Haug900 Whats wrong with that? That's simply how music progresses.

  • @Haug900 yeah, bulb from periphery coined the term. it's funny because it's a style of guitar playing, not a genre

  • @Haug900 meshuggah called it that themselves they invented the term

  • @Haug900 I'm fairly certain Meshuggah coined the term...

  • @Haug900 suddenly? it was Meshuggah who coined the term, more than 10 years ago.

  • @Haug900 It's been called Djent for ages sorry. :\

  • @ThatOneSentinel funny how Meshuggah label their newest song "Death Metal" on soundcloud then?

  • @Haug900 The word was invented by Meshuggah, genius. You and the 50 people who voted you up need to educate yourselves.

  • @snooters Meshuggah called their guitar tone djent, not their music.

  • Needs tesseract, textures and FUCKING MESHUGGAH!!!!!!!

  • Its like djentlemen were the saints of metal and rest were sinners.

  • @Sh1fters It's like "djentleman" are little metalcore kids trying to be metal and can't get their asses of Myspace.

  • @FuckYeahItsDizzy ok, tosin, bulb, and tesseract are more metal than you will ever be

  • @Sh1fters HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I don't think you know who you are talking to, hombre

  • Need Textures

  • In Exile very similar to Sol Niger within

  • Wat's the name of the 5th song? "Circles" is the band name right? I kinda dig the digital elements of it.

  • so , what´s the difference between Nu-metal and djent?

  • @ElCharlyMEX djent is pure. and technical and groovy. nu metal kinda lacks the skill and creativeness

  • @ElCharlyMEX djent uses drum machines... I suppose that's the difference. Nonetheless it both sucks.

  • @MetalAnonym0us The only reason Djent bands use drum machines is because the precision needed is ALMOST inhuman. That and if the drummer did it himself in studio then the album would never get recorded on time. But NO DRUMMER ON EARTH will ever be "Mechanically" perfect no matter how good. The machine is never off time in any way and it has no dynamics unless you put them in yourself. Hell Thomas Haake of Meshuggah INVENTED the program that all the drummers use. But live he drums just as tight.

  • @MetalAnonym0us Also almost any modern metal band hardcore, metalcore, deathcore, nu metal, grindcore, or death metal band that you see probably used a drum machine in studio. Dethklok, Meshuggah, Fear Factory, After The Burial, Periphery, Job For A Cowboy, and Dream Theater have all done it at one point. Hell Dream Theater even programs their keyboards. It sounds more perfect and professional. You can't really judge until you know the stress and demands of recording music professionally.

  • @BeDjentleAZ Yeah, Dethklok uses a drum machine, his name is Gene Hoglan. Haha. And Dethklok was the only decent music you mentioned >_<

  • @MetalAnonym0us Gene hoglan doesnt record their drums in studio. They program then into the computer then edit them with a module and call it a day. Hell even Metallica cheated with their drums on the "Justice" album.

  • @BeDjentleAZ If you would Google it, you would see Gene Hoglan received credits for recording drums in studio on both records.

  • @MetalAnonym0us Of cousre he did. They can't credit the machine. Point is he write the drum parts and may even record the base tracks. But then they are programmed to his beats. I've seen it done. I work in a studio and I've heard the stories from people like Aaron Kerry and James Murphy. And if you wanna try to say that those men are liars then be my guest. I'm not here to argue I'm just stating the point that just because a band programs drums doesn't diminish their talent. Nor is it cheating.

  • @MetalAnonym0us "Dethklok was the only decent music you mentioned" ... I beg to differ, because if Dream Theater isn't decent (let alone the other bands who are known for being awesome), thennnnn you are deaf, or music doesn't even exist o.O

  • @K6Mace Dream theater is okay. It's just not my style.

  • @MetalAnonym0us Not mine either, but they're gooooddd xD Others are OK as well...

  • fuck me i forgot all about this genre. Good'ol days of headbanging while programming here i go again!

  • I love a hell of a lot of bands what are considered djent, like uneven structure, periphery, synthetic breed, and a couple of the bands on here, but if you listen to Circles' EP, it sounds just like sevendust. And I'm not saying that it's a bad thing exactly, but when does djent stop being nu-metal? Because sevendust do djent riffs, as do fear factory.

  • a couple weeks iv got into djent now im falling in love with it :)

  • what the fuck is djent?

  • @metaltaint20 its bascally metal just like progressive or groovey like sounding

  • @metaltaint20 It is an onomatopoeia for the sound you get when you heavily and digitally distort a low tuned or extended range guitar then "chug" the lowest note. Its like someone saying "Djent" in that pitch almost. Meshuggah coined it to describe their sound and the sound of similar bands. Also patterned and polyrhythmic riffs are common. Not a must but pretty popular in the genre, & Some people in Djent bands (Pretty well known ones even!) Can't even describe their own genre. Dont feel bad =]

  • Djent djent djent djent djent djent djent also djent

  • wtf is djent?i am mainly a death metalhead so i don't know

  • @wrestlingfan12321 Technically its the sound a guitar makes when a 2-octave power chord is played with lots of mids in the EQ. Buuuut now it is beginning to become a genre, despite what other people may say. In essence, it is progressive metal with the guitar tone I mentioned above. Lots of syncopated rhythms, steady 4/4 drum groove, blah blah blah.

  • @blackshadowbass

    dear god man, stop analysing!

  • @ScarsOfTheCrucifix I know, I know. It's a bad habit, but I was just trying to concisely answer this guy"s question.

  • @blackshadowbass

lol yeah i realised that after i commented actually, analysing isnt always a bad though

  • @ScarsOfTheCrucifix Yeah, that's what happens when you're a music nerd haha. I always analyze music when I listen to it for things like time signature, scales/ modes used, style, etc. But too much music theory involved makes enjoying music a bit difficult...

  • @wrestlingfan12321 I agree? I've genuinely never heard of it, and I wouldn't class any of this as amazingly different so I wouldn't know how to class it...

  • Periphery... O

    O O

  • where is after the burial??? D:

  • @fuckbees666 meshuggah basically created the djent genre..... yeah, yer bad. This stuff is great, all music stems from other bands so power to these guys. I just won't be able to listen to them a lot because its a little too repetitive for me.

  • Circles Ftw! :D

But they're more like Experimental, and just a bit of Djent.

  • Where can I find more In Exile? Parable of Insanity is amazing, but it's the only song of theirs I can find, and I can't find any info on them. Does anyone know any other songs by them?

  • Wheres Structures? wheres Periphery? disappointed.

  • Vildhjarta sounds absolutely amazing!!! Nice pick mate

  • this is sick, i've never heard of some of these bands, i'm suddenly being overcome by a huge djent obsession, lol.

  • this is cool!

but i donpt feel the same feeling of not knowing what tha fuck is going on in my life when i listen to this.. i overheard all this generaa!

  • Norma Jean - oh god, the aftermath. Just putting it out there

  • @choorex Not djent......

  • I'm gonna sound really stupid asking this, but what the hell is Djent? As I understand it, it's the act of heavily palm-muting 4-note chords or triads... and I'm pretty sure I heard someone say that the guitars have to be super-low tuned as well. Is that correct?

  • I'm new to the whole Djent genre, I haven't heard of the term until a few days ago. Can someone tell me, would the band Sybreed be considered Djent?

  • I think everyone should quit whining and enjoy every djent band none of them are supposed to sound the same so if you dont like em then dont listen to them

  • I like that this top 5 list contains lesser known band rather then meshuggah and periphery as if djent fans have never heard of them...

  • Where bulb/Periphery?

  • @Debbinzo djent is a certain type of guitar chord. This is basically those chords incorporated into heavy progressive metal.

  • where is volumes, the contortionist, aristeia, Rooks, bermuda, structures, monuments, meshuggah, periphery, bulb, and mureau?

  • @XGIOXMusicForGOD Bulb became Periphery (if I'm correct?)

  • @Aepriz no bulb is Misha From periphery's solo project

  • djent is not a genre it is a term used to describe a guitar chord and tone

  • why is this called djent. pretty sure the genres called 'Heavy Metal', someone explain the difference if there even is one?

  • @Debbinzo Heavy Metal is what bands like Manowar, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest play. How do they sound ANYTHING similar to this? If anything, Djent could be considered a deviation of progressive... and that would be open to debate.

The trademarks of Djent as a genre would be low tunings (usually below B, going G or sometimes lower), polyrithmic patterns in drums and/or guitar, stacatto or alternate picking riffs with quite unpredictable pattenrs and clean/screaming vocals... when there´s vocals

  • Heaviest djent IGNITE THE IBEX..black circle pathways

  • Oh bullshit, djent my ass. The bands are good, but another stupid fucking genre name?

  • No periphery or tesseract? :-(

  • the album by the contortionist has the exact same album cover as in exile

  • Seriously this gets its own genre? This is just some slightly more progressive form of extreme metal.

  • You should check Eryn Non Dae (E.N.D.) they're great.

  • whats the name of the first song by the first band think n i can't really find much of them anywhere on youtube anyway

  • @gothprincessforever THINK - hate myself for hurting you

  • first one is very groovy!

    first ukrainian djent/indie band:

    /watch?v=DRwIMWhFs9Q

  • Been looking for a genre like this for years. Sick.

  • wow i've been listening to vildhjarta for quite a long while now and i didnt even know it was djent ^^

  • He said " Some of the good djent bands I've heard" It's his own opinion.

  • Meshugga pioneered the tone and influenced a lot of the bands, but they are not djent.

  • ME-SHUGG-AH! ME-SHUGG-AH! ME-SHUGG-AH!

  • OWWWWW FUCKS!!

  • There are many comments like ''where is meshugga'' or "where is periphery", probably the uploader doesn't like them and leave it as it is, after all it's his top 5 list -_-

  • @Lad0Barn0vi this guy is f****** right

  • @Lad0Barn0vi You probably don't know Meshuggah either, they aren't Djent

  • @hshiram Yes you are right, I don't know them very well, but I didn't say they were djent :)

  • @Lad0Barn0vi FUCK "meshugga" and " periphery" they can suck a dick

  • @fuckbees666 well ok, but why are you telling this to me?

  • @Lad0Barn0vi haha idk xD

  • There is no need to show Meshuggah here... You only have to put the other Djent bands together, blend ´em and add 100 tons of awesomness, than, you have Meshuggah...

  • MESHUGGAH!

  • /watch?v=se3Ejq5Jm9U <--- true djent

  • Wheres periphery

  • No, Meshuggah has never really been considered djent metal, but that's because the term didn't exist until recently. But Mushuggah is technically the first djent metal band, and holy fuck, no one does it as good as them.

  • @JazzcastleMcSkyrend mushuggah isn't djent they birthed it

  • @lol909ism Sorry to say that many bands were doing djent before Meshugga. Djent just didn't become a genre till after Meshugga came along...so if you say Meshugga popularized djent than yes I agree with your statement.

  • @themusicman777 personally, (and i think pretty much everyone agrees with me on this) meshuggah deserves to be at least in the top 3.

  • @stevenphillipevans I won't argue with you there. They definitely are in the top 3.

  • no cloud kicker?? wtf.

  • Meshugga isnt really concidered djent, there math metal. periphary really started the whole djent thing but all djent bands take huge influences from Meshugga

  • no one does it right except for meshuggah. no one.

  • 1. Meshuggah

    2. Periphery

  • hmmm Does The Dawn Chose Orion have a little djent in their mix? idk i think i here moments. This new genre confuses me lol XD

  • what in fuck? why is deathcore more popular than this? this is so much less gay and listenable

  • what in the FUCK is djent????

why have i not known about it?

  • @bearblaster420 Welcome haha.And fuck Deahcore.

  • checkout /thecatalystmovement @ Myspace, Facebook and YouTube.. or Twitter us @catalyst_djent. we're not bad :D swear....
