I didn't really get this as a kid. Back then I would just be clicking around and assumed every now again (when I selected it) that in the distance some marine was being consumed by a zerg. Of course now I realize that its some marines getting whipped into shape, but back then it seemed like some kind of horrific thing to listen to.

@Kornmeister The sounds are probably from a common sample pack, so neither production copied from the other. The siege mode sound can also be heard in many places, often as a door sound. (If anybody knows the source of the particular pack I'd be thrilled to know!)
