It's what responsible storm chasers think. You've a lot of growing up to do, or very little of it to do should you choose to keep up this type of behavior while chasing, as you'll surely meet Darwin a lot sooner than you'd expect.
@mattch49 You really need to chill out. I'm so tired of people judging what they weren't apart of. The highway was a flat, open, very unpopulated piece of road. Maybe you're not familiar with these kinds of roads, but if there's no one around, who the hell are we harming? How dare you judge?? And how dare you tell me that I need to grow up? I could say the same thing about sky divers, race car drivers, scuba divers, sports players and everyone else with a "dangerous" hobby to grow up too.
Tornado chasing is dangerous enough without idiot's doing 90mph on the roads trying to catch up with it. I am very familiar with these roads, and I am also familiar with physics... you lose a tire going that fast and you'll find out why so many people on here are telling you to slow down. Comparing your actions to those of race car drivers, or any of the other professions you listed is simply ignorant.
@mattch49 I respect your opinion, I really do. A lot of people think those who chase are completely idiotic. But, I've been chasing for 8 years and have lots of experience. I also know that what we were doing is much safer than any race car driver could ever be on a track full of other cars. You sound so high and mighty; like it's your job to smite us for being "bad". I don't appreciate being chastised by people like you who clearly have no objective perspective on the matter.
High and mighty? Typical ad-hominem reply when nothing else would make sense I suppose, right? It seems like a lot of people have made it their "job" on here to tell you the same thing.
Your maturity and your actions on this video tell me enough about you to get a good idea about what kind of person you are. No person about the age of 15 should be driving like this, and yelling like that... to do so shows lack of common sense and as previously mentioned, maturity.
@mattch49 The fact that you would even say that shows how full of yourself you really are. So go ahead, do nothing risky for the rest of your life. Have fun petting cats in your parent's basement. OH, and you'll thank chasers one day when a tornado warning is issued because people like us go fast enough to see a tornado and call it in to the weather service. We've done that multiple times this year, and that saves lives. Go ahead, judge this comment negatively as well....
Petting cats in my parent's basement? Nice one buddy... I am a spotter/chaser as well, yet for some reason never find a reason to speed as you were, and yet I still get all the information and footage I need, I wonder how that happens?
@mattch49 I understand what you're saying. But I don't appreciate being fronted like that. I really don't feel like you've had any respect for me at all since the beginning of this conversation. As you've already admitted to Thundersnow we weren't endangering anyone, so what are we still arguing about? As stated already, we've gotten into situations this year where chasing as we have as allowed us to see features and call it in to the weather service, without endangering anyone else.
@mattch49 Not sure why the yelling matters. Just because I get excited about tornadoes doesn't mean that I have the maturity of a middle schooler. Yeah we were going fast, but did you see a single other car on the road? It's a personal decision, this isn't like weaving through traffic on the interstate.
Well, the first 5 or 6 times was for fun, the other 100 or so times after that have been a mixture of enjoyment and sadness though as I started helping the affected personally.
@mattch49 When I saw my first tornado, I had the opportunity to help a family whose house was destroyed. I agree, it certainly brought mixed emotions. When I see a tornado I still get excited and vocalize it, especially when it's a tornado like this in an open field. We put video online to share it with people who are interested, if you don't like the audio then just mute it. As for the driving, I stand by my opinion that the video is evidence that we did not recklessly endanger anyone.
And I agree with your opinion that you didn't recklessly endanger anyone THIS time. My point was to simply point out that the actions in THIS specific video do not shine well upon you or whoever you've got driving the vehicle. You never know who could be looking at this video, it could be someone you'll wish to impress one day. Do you wish to be known as chasers who do not take into account their own lives and drive unsafely on public roads, or perhaps something more positive?
@mattch49 That's genuine advice, and I appreciate it. I've seen several videos of chasers doing some pretty stupid things on the road, and I don't want to be categorized in that group for sure. I know that you're on here protecting our hobby, and I can assure you that my friends and I are not yahoos out for an adrenaline rush.
@mattch49 Yes becz if you yell that definitely shows lack of common sense. So everyone at a baseball game or football game obviously has no common sense whatsoever! You cant tell me you have never sped and yelled for any reason. And no you cant tell a damn thing about this person from this video...really?!
Apples to oranges, and yes... I've been known to speed, I think that goes for most drivers, but in this situation, I'm not recording myself and then putting it on the internet and then expecting people to take me seriously and consider me valuable. When I storm chase, I know that I am recording, I know that I am setting an example to others, and I hope that when others see my vehicle in the field, they know that I will not act stupid and unsafe around them.
@mattch49 Soooo your saying that no one should go even 80 mph on a hwy because at those speeds if you blow a tire...omg you could die...even at 70 if you blow a tire, you could die! And you might now want to go even 50 mph through wooded areas because you might hit a turkey or a deer and could die! You also don't want to run around outside because you might get hit by a meteor!
Please quote where I said no one should do 80 on a highway... I simply meant to make that point that if you wish to be taken seriously as a valuable asset to the advancement of information in regards to tornado's... you probably shouldn't post videos of you zooming around at 90mph, screaming, and then call yourselves responsible chasers.
