  • Its Kermit T (The) Frog

  • This is the the best I have ever heard anyone sing this beautiful but difficult song.

    trevororrell

  • Since it IS Jim Henson's theme (his funeral OPENED with it, for pete's sake), ONLY he--as Kermit--deserves top billing. All others--as good as they are--fall to second place and below.

  • sarah mclachlan does a nice version

  • very nice voice ! Beautiful song

  • shes good, but kinda ruins the innocence of the song

  • @StudioGhibli123 I think it's still innocent ... she just makes it BORING as hell.

  • Ostentatious and too much production. This is a song that needs more honesty in a performance. Had she ditched the orchestra, the visuals etc... then she could bear her soul in this song. All I see here is "look at me, look at me!" being offered to a crowd of culture poseurs. Sorry, just calling it as I see it. Willie Nelson's version is light years ahead of this and although it's a produced video doesn't come off an ounce contrived.

  • She is excellent.

  • But Karen Carpenter can't compare to Jim Henson singing it as Kermit the frog!

  • RIP Jim Henson's version too.

  • This is actually my favorite version, and Karen Carpenter is also a beauty. I love this.

  • Beautiful bevrato....just loveley. The note holding was beautiful too. you go girl!

  • Oh, whyyyyyyyyyy are there sooooooooo maaaaaaaaany songs amout rainbows? Whyyyy, whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.........??????? aaaaaargh. Kermit's was the best. Memorable and beautiful, whatever anyone says. Smile, Rainbow.

  • Nice rendition. But I prefer Karen Carpenter's version much much more. Karen sang the song without any "tricks", pure and simple, and her voice was so unique and rich. And there's also a touch of melancholy in Karen's voice that compliments this song's message of hope.

  • Compared to Kermit's truly simple rendition, Karen's is shock full of tricks.

  • Are you kidding? Karen had one of the finest female voices of all time. How can you compare a muppet with a human being? Kermit sang it so wimpy and silly. Karen never added tricks to any of her songs, especially here. She had one of the best female voices of all time---she and Teresa Teng, a female Chinese singer who isn't well known in the West but had the best handling of a vocal instrument. See her on YouTube.

  • By "tricks" I don't mean studio tricks, I mean all Karen's little embellishments -- just listen to how she sings the word "many" in the first line. I don't have anything against her, but that's not "simple" singing compared to Kermit. (By the way, "I'm not comparing a muppet to a human being", because it's a human being doing Kermit's voice. I thought everyone knew that.)

  • Kermit sang the entire song with affectation. In other words, it was just an "act"---a frog trying to sing a song, which we all know a frog can't. That's why it's so contrived and "silly" sounding. The producers of the show meant it to be that way. There's nothing spontaneous or pure about the Kermit version.

  • Well, yes, seen from the perspective that it's Henson doing his Kermit voice, it's contrived; from the perspective that it's Kermit singing, it's straighter than any version -- because in terms of melody, he keeps it as simple as possible. I gave an example of this from the first line.

  • I just prefer the rich, mellow voice of Karen Carpenter to the whiny, flat voice of Kermit the Frog! That's all. :)

  • @panchamkauns: It doesn't matter the perspective, for Jim was Kermit and Kermit--even when performed by Steve, who was hand-picked by Jim himself--is Jim's essence, just like Walt was Mickey and Mickey--no matter the successor--is Walt. Wayne Allwine said himself that when voicing Mickey, he was told that he was just holding the position "for the boss" (i.e. Walt) and that's what Steve is doing with Kermit for Jim.

  • @mrshinyshoes: Act, my ass. Jim WAS Kermit and it was HIS theme song, just as "Wish Upon a Star" is Disney's (and "Being Green" is Kermit's solo theme & "Mickey Mouse March is Mickey's). The very fact that each and EVERY Muppet special had it included and that Jim's own funeral OPENED with an instrumental version shows the powerful nature of that song.

  • Kermit made this song his own

  • I have heard many versions of this song and nobody can touch The Carpenters rendition. This song was made for Karen's voice. Caitlin is OK but she don't even come close to Karen Carpenter. And this video, why are they signing the song? Do deaf people go to concerts where this lady comes from? Very odd.

  • Hey kjm, obviously ignorant people like yourself got to concerts, so why not deaf people?

  • there is just no accounting for bad manners or extremely unkind people....I think caitin did 'ok', but no female singer of the genre can touch karen carpenter as she had a angelic voice.

  • they can feel the musical vibrations. also, to be the lawfully deaf only have to deaf in one ear.

  • another great version of this song. she's beautiful and has a beautiful voice (although the song should be sung a little faster). Noone can ever replace Kermit, though!

  • very nice voice

  • Beautiful song, one of a kind.

  • Awesome
