He did get caught, but the British regulars who caught him were aquaintances of his, so they let him go. I'm an expert at the Revolution, my class did a whole unit on this. :D

After the war many loyalists fled to Canada where Britain still rule that nation right up to Victorian times when Canada became independent nation within the Commonwealth thus preventing US claim over Canada.
