God is one in essence. So my personal opinion is that it doesn't really matter which member of the Trinity you're praying to. As long as you pray, asking and in the name of Jesus, who is the one who has the merit for your prayers to be heard and is our Mediator.

I would say no - Both are effectively talking to yourself. There is no invisible person or persons there to hear you.

to candocownz- i understand your reasoning of science and philosophy. It sounds as though you are a student of each. As someone who I'm assuming enjoys learning, I would imagine you would also enjoy learning from both sides of the coin. If you're willing, I think you might find the "Truth Project", created by Dr. Del Tackett to be rather stimulating as he delves deeply into both science and philosophy in his series. If anything, you will learn some neat history you may not have known.

I looked to see if anyone had the same response as I did to this video and there was wheresmylife, a blessed member of Bethlehem. Pastor John's joy is so glorifying to God and so edifying to me; I love what He has done in this man for our benefit! My exegetical and thus doctrinal and thus joyful approach to God's word has exploded since hearing Dr. Piper preach the first time 8 months ago. It's been nonstop on my iPod ever since. Philosophy has brought us the world we live in today with all the things we enjoy.... People claiming to talk to imaginary beings have brought us nothing but wars and rejections of science..... But, if you listen again in context (well, at least I took it this way), he meant that Jesus is the Lamb who was slain, the torn Veil, so that we can boldly (with reverence) go to God's throne and ask. If they are answered, then it's because Jesus made a way for us to approach God.

Yes, it sounds like herecy if you pull that sentence out and it stands on it's own. But, I do believe he meant that Jesus made the way of communication. Prayers answered b/c the cross...

Some of you just don't get it. John is right on! You can pray to anyone of the Triune God. I pray to each one of them in different circumstances all the time. There is nothing wrong. There is no heresy about it at all. Like John said...as long as you know who you're talking to.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I watch all of them but this one is particularly enjoyable because you can just see the joy Pastor John gets when he talks about the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

He's my pastor and I can tell you that he's this way in person, too. He sincerely cares for his flock and is always available to people. He gives you his undivided attention and honest thoughts. I say this not to glorify him, but to testify to his sincerity and heart.
