George actually tackles the rap in the early style that was made popular by early rap star Curtis Blow. It's all relative to the times. A much better attempt than Blondie's song, which I always thought was meant to poke fun at the early art form. This song by Wham actually did it some justice.
Ahhh, yes...the early '80s, when rap was an obscure urban musical oddity appropriated by white pop-music acts (i.e. "Rapture" by Blondie) before anyone knew what the hell it was, and thus didn't know well enough to fall down in a spastic laughing fit watching a flamboyant, mincing Brit trying to do so. Kinda like watching old footage of Pat Boone covering "Tutti Frutti" by Little Richard.
I googled Andrew Ridgley. He's definitely normal and living a happy life. Andrew had the last laugh (although they're still friends, apparently).
I just watched George's "Fastlove" (1996). It was Lady Ga-ga grotesque. In that one George is telling us he's a tormented, out-of-control sexual obsessive and rubbing our noses in it.
i have always looooooove Wham! George was my very first crush......there was something in him......til now there is something in him.....i just can't figure it out!
YOUNG GUNS HAVING SOME FUN CRAZY LADIES KEEP EM ON THE RUN WISE GUYS REALIZE THERES DANGER AND EMOTIONAL TIES!!!!!!!!!!!!AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!
This is one of those tunes that would have had a big tough guy like me laughed out of high school if not worse! At the time it was all hard rock and progressive rock.
I have this on EP so I wonder where I went wrong in life? Just kidding, it is a good tune that holds up and I still enjoy it despite all the lifestyle classifications that come along with it!
I remember seeing this video on Home Box back in the early 80's too. I first saw this video on USA Network's Radio 1990 and I flipped out when Anthony Michael Hall drove a Rolls-Royce in Sixteen Candles with this song blazing.Young Guns still has the passion and drama that it had 29 years ago.
This song will foever remind me of grad night in junior high school, before graduating to the 1oth grade. 'Remember having this song on my mind as we boarded the bus to go have fun that night. Good to have a great song tied to a great time in ones past.
I remember when I saw them on American Bandstand around 1983 and I looked at George and I felt that he was going to leave the "others" behind and boy was I right. So how's he doing, we in North America don't hear much about him since his release from Prison.
Can someone help me with the artist/group and title of a song? The song start with "We gotta dance, just me and you, it´s so romantic, let´s see what we can do" and a little later in the song: "The man i just found expected to be alone"
And George Michael turned out to be gay. Who knew?? "See me, single and free. No tears, no fears. What I want to be. Tell me now that you're happy turning your back on me.."
I was eighteen and this was the first Wham! number I'd ever seen/heard and I knew right off what was going on. George was telling us he was gay from the start. It couldn't have been more obvious what the song was really about.
@xxblodlustxx no. Its pretty funny listening to it now that we all know. Wow did he have a great voice though although he doesn't use it on this album to its best.
As an old timer, I prefer the music of the late 50s-early 70s. But, yes, the 80s did produce good music as well. To me, however, music went downhill after that. Just my opinion, not necessarily a fact.
