  • That's massive!

  • this is awesome! i have a quaker, she loves sticks but she takes her structures apart and redoes them, so they never get big. she prefers chopsticks and drinking straws.

  • what happend atthe end?

  • nice work sparky!

  • wow, that is adorable! now he just needs a chick to share his palace with! :)

  • Sparky is amazing! Ive never seen anything like that!

  • the nest is just way too big for the bird (laugh)

  • i like how he shakes his head in the end :)

  • ahh..what a cutie he is and a hard worker. I enjoyed watching this video. I like the fact you do not confine him to a cage. I always feel birds are healthier and live longer when they can be out of their cage.

  • wow im shocked no one dislikes this video thumbs up towards youtube

  • use bird friendly wood, even tho it looks clean it can give them beak rot

  • This video is simply superb. How on earth did you know he'd want to build, and is it natural for them. We've only got our Quaker, and we didn't actually expect to get one, so we weren't prepared. Do they have to be trained, or can you just introduce your Quaker into a shelf or something with a few sticks?

  • The dream house is A MASTERPIECE!

    the music is a masterpiece!

and putting this video together is a masterpiece!!!!

  • hubby didnt believe he built the house instead of daddy, now this should convince him!!!!

  • I really wish you were a member of Avian Avenue forums! I would love to see more of Sparky's antics! He is so cute!!! Kudos for letting him express himself! lol

  • You call that a nest? This is a REAL nest: youtube.com/watch?v=RUDzRAOZ74Y

  • My sun conure sees a nest as a hole to sit in. I've given him eucalyptus branches, but he strips off the leaves and, makes a hole and sits in it.

Generally he takes the newspaper, shreds it, makes a hole, and sits in it. lol

Quakers aren't conures, so maybe their idea of a nest is more complex.

    Cool video.

  • Amazing and magnificent! I need to eat the same kinds of food that Sparky eats! LOL

    Cheers from Linda & Geronimo

Thumbs up to the top of the nest!!!

  • Oh my goodness! This is amazing! This little fellow, Sparky, is an impressive worker! If it was 10 days to build that part, how long did it take to build the entire complex?

  • Where do you get the sticks from? Do you buy them separately and just stick the pegs on? Also, what did you do to get him started?

  • Simply amazing. I was just wondering-- if you let a Quaker build a nest like this does it change their attitude at all?

ie. Does become defensive over his masterpiece when you and/or guests approach it?

  • Wierd.. My quaker parrot enjoys living in his cage. However his cage is huge.. he used to have a small one but he grew out of it and so I bought him a new expensive huge white cage.. and lots of toys! (:

  • Haha, wow. Smart quaker parrot.. my quaker parrot doesn't do that but maybe it's because I don't give him enough sticks. :/

  • my bird only has a couple sticks for his nest. he doesnt like building much.

  • LOL! Industrious lil guy!

  • sweet

  • Wow! It looks like he built the entire apartment complex, not just his own place, lol. Awesome.

  • This is amazing!! I wonder how to kick start my quaker in building!!!

  • What a fantastic builder. Hope he doesn't get paid peanuts.....

  • @spiritofthestaircase hahahaha!

  • what a busy quaker!

  • holy SHIT THATS HUGE

  • Hey, this is a funny vid!

    I enjoyed the whole vid!

    Thx

    Where are ya coming from?

    switzerland?

    (from vogelsang in switzerland?)

    nice!

    bythebattleking..

    cya

  • wow thats impressive

    is that house, warm?

can u find out if the house can keep heat.. hehe.

  • Wow - I'm totally impressed! My quaker (also named Sparky) is not quite as industrious, although he does love to weave hay and sticks.

  • What did you do to get him to build in that spot. My Quaker Coby has started to stick skewers in between my DVDs on the rack. I thought about getting him a milk crate or something to help him out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Lori

  • A milk crate sounds promising. He likes 12" 3/16" dowels with clothes pins; not twigs or green sticks, etc., which he just throws out, but some birds prefer, we hear. As for where to build, in an empty book shelf, first sticks are kind of tough if there's nothing to stick them in, but that's his method anyway. He likes sticks for the days' work arrayed neatly in the morning in a staging area. If we are around, we'd better realize we're part of the flock and hand him a stick from time to time.

  • @sparkyvonvogelsang That's adorable!

  • great nest! congratulations!

  • I love when Sparky stops and rests from 1:20 to 1:24 and again at the end - so well deserved! I am glad they found you to help them build and that you shared the results with us.

  • lol sparky build duplex

  • Wow bravo Sparky! Fab job. I hope you get to live in it after all that hard work!!

  • LOL! Cute vid. My quaker Cha-Cha has absolutely no interest in building. She would rather physically attach herself to me. They are like people, each has their own personality.

  • lol at the end! that is so amazing! he is so smart!

  • If you ant your quaker to built, built a simple frome on top of his cage. Bend limber, green 30/36 inch long sticks into upside down U. Adda couple of sticks along the top and and sides. Provide bird with limber, green, STRAIGHT sticks about 14 inches long. He will weave nest about 2 ft long, 16 inches high in shape of tunnel open at both ends. Try it.

  • First line should read-If you want your Quaker to build a nest.... Bend limber green sticks 30/36 inches long into a simple frame. Make 3 upside down U's. Tie them together with 2 straight sticks along the top and one along each side. Make it at least 18 inches long and 14 inches tall. Give him lots of sticks. Lay them in the floor.

  • I hope everyone will bring their Quaker some green straight sticks in. They love sticks. Look at the videos of the wild quakers to see what kind of nest they like to build. Sparky is wonderful. I wish I knew how to put video on YouTube. My birds work all of the time building and repairing their nest. One birds hands the stick to the other. You can practically here him say" Here, give me that."

  • Wow, Sparky is industrious! What is he in, though? Is it separate from a different cage that you have? And what's it made of? I'm just very curious, because I think my quaker would love something like that.

  • Sparky let us know within the first week when he arrived in our house that he was not going to live in a cage. As a friend commented, "Yeah, why would a bird want to be in a cage?" What you see in this video is one side of our dining room. The erstwhile cage is on the other side. He sorts sticks on top of it and has an array of bird seed, water, and rice and grain mix. Sparky can fly (clipped only in spring) but the only other room he flies into is the kitchen, to socialize.

  • these quakers are incredible! how awsome you gave your lil guy this opportunity! flippin amazing "the bird and you" 5* and i'll be back to share your video and give more *'s!

  • Wow! Sparky has lots of apartments in that complex and what a great builder. Most people have no idea that quakers do this.

As hard as that boy works he should get paid triple!!!! Made me tired, it did!

  • I loved this clip! Perfect... what a little worker he is!

  • Awesome film

  • wow! I read your comments about how he is particular about the sticks and dowels he uses. That's so typical of Quakers! LOL. those lil rascals! I've noticed that Ryan (my Q) always rearranges his toys around the cage. - love these vids! keep em coming. :).

  • You have an amazing bird! Super cool that you allow him the materials to build, you give him the space he needs to build it, and you share the wonder with the world. I am sure many owners of this species don't even know they can do this. Thanks for this video, it was a delight!

  • Once again, that is SWEET!

  • oh wow, that end result with the picture was GREAT! This is quite a nest!

  • what is the building material?

  • 3/16 inch dowels with clothes pins attached. That's what he prefers; anything else gets thrown overboard.

  • Wow! Beautiful! Thank you again for another wonderful video.

  • I think that Sparky is ready to help us build the shell at Catlin Gabel!! (What do you think that he will want for pay? I can probably send some more kindling back home with him!) BTW- Fire code?? :-)

  • This is a terrific clip! Sparky is destined for stardom! :D

  • Can Sparky come over and build MY house?? Awesome!

  • WOW!!! Sparky I am in awe of you!!!

  • ...and maestro Sparky of course. A++

  • very, very good baldwin

  • All credit belongs to Linda Magee on this one - she's the genius behind a new school of film: Quaker Time Lapse drama. I just love the music that Linda picked -- it's a perfect match!

  • omg so cute

  • I love this - it's amazing!
