I keep a schrade honesteel in my kit for keeping my knives topped off in the field along with a small dual sided spyderco stone. I leave the waterstones at home. I have seen vids of folks that Cary them into the woods but that's crazy.
Hey cody, I've got a question for you. I took your recommendation on the versamax 2 holster a while ago and couldn't be more pleased with the product. Because of this and a lot of your other videos, I know without a doubt that you are familiar with quality. I am now in the market for a hunting knife and I want something that will last a lifetime. I was wondering if you knew of any very reputable knifemakers from whom I might be able to purchase. Thanks for your time, I appreciate what your doing
Love these types of tutorial videos. I need to learn how to sharpen my knives and this helps so much. Love the bushcraft knives you have as well. I have a blindhorse knife but haven't used it much. Thanks for sharing and posting.
Love sharpening my blades. the scandinavian grind is pure plesure to sharpen.
Persanaly i over do with japanese wetstones :p
I yous 800 - 1000 - 3000 - 5000 - 8000 - 10.000 stones and to top it of a real gental stobbing on an dovo strob.
The Nagura stone is olsow wonderful to clean your stones with. And if the stones aint flat any more yous an Naniwa egalise stone With lots of water. wil make the stone like new a gain =)
Enjoyed the vid! You've recommended the Japanese water stones before, and one of my friends has as well. I'll look into acquiring some, they're a good pass-time and many of my knives definitely need a better/sharper edge.
great video, thanks...I have a question for you..i have seen other people use a different stone to keep the water stones flat? they rub the 2 stones together to keep them as flat as possible?(after the stones get high and low spots)...or am i thinking of totally different sharpening stones?...Thanks again
excellent vid! this is a process i also enjoy. i've seen the car widow technique used and its a great way to hone the knife edge, that hard polished surface at the edge of the glass does a fantastic job.
I enjoyed the old video on your previous channel, but I think this one is even better! Looks like I'm dong it correctly, I just need to practice more. Thanks for the video.
I' m convinced! I've sharpened all my various tools, knives, axes, hoes, shovels, lawn mower blades, even my wife's cutlery and your demo of the Japanese Sharpening Stones is the most impressive.
Cool! More knowledge to absorb. Your bushcraft knife looks like a work of art. What kind of wood handles does it have? Thanks for posting. Keep up the good work!!!
I just found your site a few hours ago. It is fascinating because I am a 60 year old version of you. There aren't many guys nowdays who are into so many productive things as you are.
I have the idea that you are not too far from where I live and would sure love to chew the fat some time. I live in Otis, Oregon.

A couple things that may interest you:
A leather strop loaded with Mothers Aluminum Polish will bring an edge to a mirror finish, and razor edge.
A computer mouse pad is an excellent nonslip surface to set your stones on while you're working your blades.

I have always been a big fan of diamond sharpeners, they rip metal off like a cinderblock but leave an edge as if it was a medium grit stone.
