  • Osha should eat their lunch.

  • p.s. this job carries the highest L&I rate that I could find...$13.** per hour per employee! YIKES!!! Now I know why shakes cost so much. :)

  • Certa splits??? I have installed a few thousand of these bundles. Those look like heavy's?

  • Paid $40 for a bundle the other day and thought I would see how their made.

    What a butt-puckering revelation! Shingle Sawyers - U_ R_ da' man.

I was an industrial woodworker for almost a decade and this thing boggles my mind.

  • Geez, no mask, to close to the saw, I wonder how much he pays for life insurance.

  • wow, they 're moving like their trying to get away from the mother inlaw, lol.good job all.

  • Sometimes cut off the same finger a few times.

  • For people asking about OHSA, this is possibly in North America, and the maximum clips/minute is 32 in Canada, don't know about US.

And... many people make many mistakes, I know sawyers who have cut off 5, 6 12 fingers, partial, full, whole hands, one guy cut off his arm last year, another cut off his foot, besides the last two all return to work, so they do get second chances.

  • Also, with 24s and 10 inch exposure you get much more coverage per clip, so he might actually be producing as much wood as you running at 36 clips/minute.

  • My advice: sue the employer in advance!

  • holy crap that looks dangerous

  • Ist das Amerika ??

  • Gotta be honest, I feel like if I did that job, I would surely just fuck up one day, not pay attention for just a second, and chop my hand off.

I understand working with saws, but not at this pace for a full 8 hour shift. Every day, repetitive motion, having to reach over the saw on every cut while simultaneously monitoring the other one.

My hat's off to you guys. You must never have bad days. Seriously, it's impressive.

  • Nothing much changed in single milling. These guys paid by the square? Is there a shake mill?

  • Where is OSHA ?

I can't believe the dangerous proceedures they are using in this video! This company surely cannot be in the US??? I'm not one for regulation, but this is ridiculous. Guess they don't care about keeping their hands intact!!!

  • @mstrrktek The L & I rate the last time I looked for this type of work was 13.50 per man hour. This is how its done my friend. The only way to really make this any safer is to either slow it way down or make it all automated. Shakes took a huge hike in price around 3 or 4 years ago from around 27.00 a bundle up to 67.00 a bundle, now back down to 37.00 per bundle. To be honest I hate the cost of shakes but these men & women deserve journeyman wages to do this line of work.

  • what is the difference between shakes and shingles? In the northwest(washington) we only use cedar, what other woods work well and why?

  • shingles are sawn and shakes are split. like with a frow. pine is used here in the mid west were large western cedars are not, pine was/is used in Scandinavia

  • I have seen barns in the Peace River country with 40 year old Cottonwood shakes.

  • where can i visit that mill, beautiful wood , i thought it might had been nice Alasken yellow

  • He is sawing shingles not shakes my name is Steve Baker thru 60s and 70s 80s I was second fastest shake sawyer in the world 431 bundles in 7 and half hours Tom Jewett was #1 he sawyed 731 WOW

  • MrSupersaw,

Would you happen to know if anyone in Oregon has an old shingle mill for sale? I am located in Yamhill County.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • mr supersaw ur and idiot okay i saw shingles. and 431 bundles is 107.74 square wich is impossible in 7 hours. i am one of the fastest and i run my saw at 36 clips a minute witch is maxed out for compo standerds "way faster then this guys". your tellin me u cut 10,775 square feet of shingles in 7 hours go fuck yourself!

  • @drugzarebadkids yes, mr supersaw is full of it, no way he did 100 square/day, but the reason the saw is cycling so much slower is the length of the blocks, cutting 24s the saw would slow down too much if you ran 36 clips/minute, even 32 it would slow down, bind and dive in, making crappy shakes. Even with 18" shingles 36 is too fast, you probably get some split edges at the tail and dive/run at that speed, and sure make lots of crap shingles

  • and yes I can imagine standing that close to them two saws.... do it 5 days a week 10 hours a day.... cant imagine doing anything else.... wouldnt want to saw royals though... I'm sawin on a high standard cant run a big enough head saw to make me feel comfortable sawing royals... perfections are bad enough... I like sawin FiveX nice vid though.. nice blonde wood...

  • almost look like royals

  • 7/8 butts ,cypress
