  • never put your arms behind your head, your pressing tension onto your traps muscles, your using your arms as momentum to get up, you need to be using your core strength.

  • @Nationalguard Can you give me the names of all the abdominal sit up exercises you know?

I only know like three and cant find any others online.

  • @silverskills1 Please feel free to visit our website and check out our Fitness page.

  • he lifted his feet up every single time

  • So, I leave for Basic in a week and I'm not very good at Sit ups at all. Will I gain some strength in this exercise over time? Also, what is the 1, 1, 1 requirement for the situp?

  • 2:14... he got me pausing the video, getting down on the floor and actually doing it... @_@

  • @TheTenners lol same here

  • I've read a lot of articles about situps and why it's not a good exercise for ab's. You compress your spine in your lower back. It's much better to do other kinds of exercises where you don't put stress on your lower back.

  • My upper thighs fatigue like crazy when I do sit ups. I never feel the soreness in the abdominals.

  • I hear some sort of crackle when doing sit ups, even when maintaining all your instructions: what should I do? I can do 100 pushups easily but when doing sit ups I just suck! thnx allready

  • @Zeiler91,

We recommend that you find an alternate abdominal exercise until you get your back checked. You do not want to injure yourself.

  • Sarge, I can do about 100 crunches and 100 bicycles, but can't do more than just a few full army situps! Clearly these excercises aren't preparing me for the APFT. Do you have any suggestions to help me increase my reps? Thanks.

  • Sir, I am in the Airforce and ship to basic in 85 days. In the Airforce, you must cross your shoulders. I have heard that on the PFT, your elbows must touch your knees doing the sit up portion.

Is this true? or is my back simply suppose to come straight up and break the plane?

I want to practice as accurate as the real thing as possible. Currently - I can do 35 pushups and 39 sit ups ( both with 20 lb vest/weights on)

Thank you so much for the quality vids - They are appreciated by many.

  • @MissionRiddim,

PFT standards in the Airforce may be different from what our APFT is in the Army National Guard. We want you to get the exact information you're looking for, we highly recommend that you check with a representative of the Airforce. Thank you for stopping by and thank you for your service. Best wishes to you!

  • i cant even raise myself upmwithout smeone holding my feet

  • i really dont doubt this guys obviously excellent shape, but in the irish defence forces, we introduced a slight difference when performing sit ups. Actually having the hands on top of the head can damage your neck. We slip our hands over the knees, thats one possibility of avoiding those damages. But anyway, i dont want to argue with the most efficient army on this planet, i just wanted to share the information. Blessings from the 28th Infantry Battalion, Western Brigade, IDF

  • @FreeMoney9,

Yes! Someone will be holding your feet down for that portion. If you practice without that support, you'll really do well!

  • during the APFT sit up section...is someone holding your feet down while you do the situps? im having problems keeping my feet on the ground at all times...if someone was holding my feet down i can do a lot more situps faster

  • you o ski balded ass nigga! you Mr.clean looking ass nigga!

  • thx mate!

  • Can you have someone hold your feet? I saw another video on ask.com and the drill instructor was holding the guys feet to the ground.

  • With all respect!, this sargent looks like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Hooot!

  • Is a sit-up better then a crunch?

  • Hooah

  • 75 in 2 minutes and 15 and 1/2.

  • can you do situps with arms crossed during the fitness test?

I really dislike straining my neck

  • @MissionRiddim No you can not, You must have your hands on top of your head, interlocked at all times.

  • @nationalguard Its not that i can not do them - but my tail bone literally cracks and makes noises when i do situps on the ground - and putting my hand behind the head makes it even worse. I dont know what to do about this. i can probably do a hundred situps with out much issue - but the pain when my tail bone pivots on concrete is distressing

  • @MissionRiddim That probably means instead if using your stomach muscles on the incline you're in fact using your arms to pull your upper body up by grabbing hold of your head.

  • dude looks like cena

  • I did last year 43 "speed" sit-ups in my physical fitness test in our school. Any ideas or recommends of how I should train to improve my speed sit-ups?

  • Im 14 and want to be in the military so i started to prepare myself, last night i did 60 sit-ups in 2 minutes and a couple of minutes i just did 80 in 2 minutes im really impressed with my stats! changing your drinking and eating ways makes a huge diffrence! im resting right now to do my push-ups gonna hope i get at least 70, last night i did 60.

  • @XxXEXOPLAYERXxX I COULD DO 60 SIT UPS IN A MINUTE EASILY IM ALSO 14

  • Sure are flapping those arms

  • hey, his heels were coming up off the ground when he had his feet down

  • he was trying not to laugh at the end

  • Hi! Im a 7th grader trying to pass a maturity test so i can play on varsity tennis! Can you give me any tips? I have to run 1.5 miles, hold a pullup ( with hands in wierd position ) for 10 sec., do 38 situps a minute, jump 5.2 feet, dash 50 yds in 8.3 sec, and do a shuttle run in 8 sec!!! HELP!

  • I want to know his PT score.

And he should visit new unit everyday to teach them how to do PT.

  • @NoobSoldier2006 My APFT score is a 411. Thanks for reaching out!

  • Yea way to go this is helping me prepare myself for boot camp since I'm planning on enrolling in the Air National Guard. So far, thanks to these videos I'm from six push ups to seventeen push ups and still going. I'm gonna be turning 38 in July this year and I'm glad they raised the age limit, two years ago I called them and they told me I was too old. I feel good about the decision to do this and my wife is also much behind me on it too. Just imagine, working for NORAD. It's possible!

  • i'm joining the N G youth challenge program. and this is really helping. thx ssg ken weichert!

  • go national guard!

  • putting your hands on the back of your head is bad for your neck in the long term.

it may seem like nothing but all the army wants is fit, strong soldiers untill they are dismissed, the exercises they do are high quality for building muscle and killing fat, but can damage your body alot in the long term.

please try not to do this at home if your not thinking of joining a military force.

especially if your young, keep your body safe and it wont break down early in life.

  • Putting your hands behind your head is only bad for you if you jerk your head upwards in trying to use your arms to help raise your torso. If you focus on what you're doing & use your hands for support rather than help, it does your body no harm.

  • thanks for the great vid

  • ''sgt. Ken has been a big help now i will pass for sure except i find the running a little hard though.''

  • Breath in on the way down? Shouldn't you breath out on the way down as its easier to exhale with gravity on your side? It would be harder to breath that way, at least for me.

  • It's much harder for me to inhale on the way up because it fills your lungs & expands your torso, reducing flexibility. Also, the point of this exercise is to go against gravity. If gravity is on your side the whole time, you aren't really doing anything.

  • You exhale when you're doing the work. In this case, it's on the way up. It seems counter intuitive to exhale when you're going up and inhale on the way down, but that's the most efficient way to use your lungs. That's why you hear guys grunting at the gym when they're lifting heavy weights.

  • another mistake is putting hands behind head. for normal people starting duing situp for the first time, putting hands behind head may strain the neck. im disappointed in this.

  • @axm014 Thats not a mistake, thats just you not keeping proper form. Upon coming up for your situp keep your face forward, and your chin off your chest, and keep your arms relaxed.

  • "try it now"

    Yes sir!!

  • HOOAH!

  • Great.
