Cameron seems to have thought like george lucas, making a kick ass sci fi slightly based on events from history. He also thought out the universe like lucas. Ill still like star wars more than avatar no matter what but if cameron sticks to it like lucas did with his original trilogy than i could definitly see this become the star wars of our generation, I like how avatar mixes starwars/space scifi with modern day stuff for me (a military movie and scifi movie lover avatar was great, it mixed.

Indeed Cameron did borrowed from the Star Wars Trilogy, world history, Last of the Mohicans, Heavy Metal (both movie and magazine comics), Hayao Miyazaki movies (Princess mononoke to Nausicaa to Castle in The Sky), Dune, Transformers 1986 animated and 2007, Starchaser Legend of Orin, Fantastic Planet, LightYears (aka Gandahar), star Trek 6 and Enemy Mine for his new masterpiece.

@TehAuroraWolf Indeed, though he should make it less heavy handed. The saying goes; Some anvils needs to be dropped. But in Avatar, it is much more like an arsenal worth of gatling guns rapid firing anvils down the throats of the audience. It was one of the reason that many ended up cheering for Quaritch.

@TehAuroraWolf He probably would not. Avatar is like a wish fulfillment fantasy of his. But according to history, a primitive society have never defeated a more advanced civilization in the long run. The second movie should be more about the fact that Jake might have made the situation even worse, a Human army appearing.. a real one. While the third movie should be more about the two sides finally finding some common ground and with both sides coming to understand the other.

While you're right, but I have to disagree, the slaves on Haiti defeated the French and they was extremely poor. While they are not 'natives', their technologies and armies was a much lower standard than the French, who was at the time a European power.

Have the RDA launch a relativistic kill vehicle the size of a refrigerator at Pandora, and it will go through the same situation that Earth went through when a meteor struck it 65 million years ago. Wait a few years, send an ISV and they can resume mining with minimal to non-existant resistance.

They have the technology to accomplish such a thing. Only thing in the way are morals. Scary thought, no? :)
