Call me OLD-WORLDY, but I love metal coins. I rarely use them, but I love 'em. I think the pennies should be MORE coppery, the nickel MORE nickle, SCREW the plastic bills - and that's the crux of how I feel; I don't care 'how much' is spent on production, the REALNESS of things is at an all time low, obviously. And now we have monopoly-game quality cash. How about this: make the pennies worth 10cents, the nickles 50. The dines can be $3. , Flax and cotton bills, or none at ALL!! :D
Never did like pennies and nickels, to tell you the truth. But you have to think, what impact will getting rid of those denominations do to the world economy? It might be small change, but it will add up.
If they were to stop making any of these coins, wouldn't that have an impact on pricing at stores? Say, if I were to buy something and pay for it with a five dollar bill, and I would get, say, 12 cents in change, how would that work?
Personally, I agree. Small change is annoying, and heavy to carry around, and the price of making it is kinda stupid. So as long as it doesn't make too much of a difference to the way we pay for things at the store, I guess get rid of it all. ^_^
@SkylarkStarflower Excellent observation. Simple solution is to round the cost to the nearest nickel, dime, quarter, (etc). We already do it with the penny -- for example: if some thing costs $7.99 (as most prices end with 99c), and tax is 13%, the real price becomes $9.0287, but you pay $9.03. So why not have it to the nearest dime or quarter (making it $9.00). Sometimes you pay more, sometimes you pay less, and companies would eventually figure out which price endings work best for them.
