  • Im sorry but this song sounds creepy

  • I heard this on tv the other day. I had completely forgotten the song, and when it played (behind some people talking on a documentary) I just froze, I suddenly remembered hearing it as a child, and I didn't know if I felt happy or sad.

I just know that being so very simple it must be one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

  • THEY HAVE TO PLAY THIS SONG! ....when hes gone :( </3

  • @MrBoondock1 I second that! :)

  • The fact that the first and last pictures of him are so similar yet so different is just haunting...

  • i miss my childhood :( no more good movies

  • @mastax1234 Though that's sad, I'm glad it brought you to some old time classic wonderful music....

  • dick van dyke is just the best there is no beter than him . i love dick van dyke i will always love him :) :)

  • my dad used to sing this to me...ill never forget

  • I had this song on tape when I was little! :)

  • This song <3 I just love it. I wish he was my dad. I'm so going to sing this to my kids one day.

  • i can't wait to sing this to my kids.

  • lol i came here after hearing this on family guy

  • Magical!

  • My childhood.

  • in some pictures he looks like david bowie and michael caines baby XD

  • What a real genuine guy dick van dyke is, very sincere, i do love this song, very much.

  • my dad used to sing me this me when i was little, just like this.

  • i love dick van diyke the song put me to sleep even now he sing it so lovely

  • Why must he age?? ;(

  • not a dry eye anywhere after listening to this tune

  • @RichardElden Have you listened to his voice properly and felt what he is singing, its heartfelt and beautiful. Ive heard a number of reditions of this song. In my opinion this is the best. Deeper voices eminate from a pain in the heart, drinking helps too ha ha... this is lovely

  • @RichardElden Nothing wrong with his voice in this song at all, would you rather it be autotuned like the rest of todays crap?

  • Chitty chitty bang bang was my favourite childhood film but I always thought that the child catcher was a woman who had an unfortunate tone of voice and face.

  • How can seven people dislike such an amazing song sung by such an amazing man?

  • hushabye mountain is like kicking a puppy only instead of kicking youre hugging and instead of a puppy its a narwhal :3

  • I love you dad. I watched this when I was a kid. Always thought he would be a perfect dad.

  • It fills the sails of boats that are waiting--

Waiting to sail your worries away.

I thought this was a poem at first. I found it in a book called 33 snow fish. Its such a deep book:/

  • im only 14 and i love this man and every movie hes in that ive watched were brilliant he is amazing :D and hes so hot too xD <3 this this guy

  • Dick van Dyke really did serve as a father figure to a lot of people if you think about it.

  • Wow. What can you say, incredible singer, actor, comedian, dancer... some people are just gifted. I'd implore any younger viewers to check out his material.

  • This is a beautiful song, and who better to sing it than Dick Van Dyke? If I ever have a daughter, I'd like to sing this to her. :)

  • @fuckgd1 Dick Van Dyke.

  • my fav childhood actor this used to be my lullubye when i was little cuz i wouldn't go to sleep unless someone sang this to me :D

  • i own this movie and whenever i watch it i just love to hear this song... and i love singing along with all the songs hahaha i havent watch it in a while... im suprised i still remember all the words to these songs(: <3 I love Dick Van Dyke hahaha

  • this is one of the songs I hope I get to sing to my children :)

  • so calming..........

  • this melody will send any child to sleep. No questions asked =)

  • i am 27

  • =D ive never been as attached to a song as this one! Dick, though i dont know him, everytime i hear this its just like hes my father! I cry all the time to this song. It will be my favorite lullaby to sing to my little cousins, and i sing it to the point it drives my parents to insanity! I garauntee that as an adult this will be the lullaby i sing to my children.. no questions asked, because it just has such a fatherly feeling on me! chitty bang bang songs are just beautiful and genious!

  • I had a crush on him when I was 6 or 7 XD

  • @stephenhncohen Haha me too.. his smile always used to get me going.. ;) ;)

  • Dick Van Dyke yet i say anymore!

  • They really don't make movies like this any more, but then if they did, we wouldn't truly appreciate them.

I absolutely love Dick Van Dyke and I freakin' love this song. It's one of the most soothing songs I have ever heard.

I hope Hollywood doesn't try and remake old classics like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, because if they end up like a remake of Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, there is no hope for remakes... But that's my opinion.

  • My kids and I love this song, thanks!

  • this song is about hookers and smoking crack

  • The chain smoking alcolholic Van Dyke was luck not to get cancer of the larynx.

  • @JuanMacready You're an obvious troll I've seen you commenting on other videos lol.

  • Ahhhhh...the days where actors had to be able to sing, dance, and actually act. Now they are just overrated and all glam; it is about how you look nowadays.

Great movie though. I would give anything to see a new movie that was as good as this. Enough with the pixar animation crap.

  • one of my favourite songs ever, its pure magic. reminds me of a lovely childhood!!!!

such a mixture of Sadness and yet so much Hope.....

  • song sends chills down my neck, in a good way. I used to have this on a 45Rpm

  • dick van dyke is a sexy bitch, i'd tap that :P

  • I LOVE Dick Van Dyke!!

  • my dad used to sing this to me, he passed away last year aged only 50, this does make me well up a bit

  • @nicksouthyful i'am sorry to hear that your dad had die

  • they dont make childrens films like they used too do they?

  • He is like a dad that ive always wanted but never had

  • @jquinn25 Me too!! Since my dad was always away in another part of the country or completely in another country, I've always looked up to him. I used to watch his movies everyday and just sing and sing and sing. It makes me feel good inside.

  • jeeze! i loooove this man! :) classic

  • i wish my dad would sing this for me it is nice and comforting i will sing ti to my kids when i have them it is perfect too.

  • Dick Van Dyke was in some great classics. He's living as 84. That's a good strong age.

  • Anyone else see a physical resemblance between Dick Van Dyke and Craig Ferguson? Or is it just me?

  • I belive and I'm 46, by the way, I'm not gay or anything, but is Dick Van Dyke very handsome for an 84 year old or what?

  • yeah man he got it going on.

  • He looks better today than he did in his Mary Poppins days...

  • this song always makes me cry. i love it so much.

  • Beautiful movies like this aren't made anymore. I believe this and i'm a 19 year old :s

  • I believe it and im 15

  • @sliferproductions i believe it, and I'm 23... the songs aren't as good in movies... the Sherman Brothers ROCK! They did music for Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks too.

  • is dick van dyke dead?

  • No, he's slowed up a little since last year but still going strong. He's 84 now, good age.

  • No, he's very alive and well. He's in Diagnosis Murder now. It's for old people but it's not bad.

  • @BethGoth15 I'm 15 and I watch it...I got into it when I just turned 14

  • Bobbie Gentry recorded a very atmospheric version, sung just above a whisper. It's very well worth tracking down.

  • The most popular comment is 'Why don't they make movies like this anymore??'

So true! Where's the hollywood reps? LIsten up!

  • amazing actor my inspiration i think i spelled insparation wrong please correct me if im wrong.

  • you had it right the first time. firefox has a built-in spell check, you know :D

  • i love Dick Van Dyke... amazing version of this song.

  • love this man ...

  • When i was younger me and my brother always used to fast forward over this song because it used to seem to last forever. But now i can appreciate how lovely it actually is. It's my favorite one from the film.(:

This is the kind of movie that should never be forgotten along with Annie and Mary Poppins. It's such a shame they dont make films like this anymore. ):

  • You know this is a very special song if the great David Gilmour performs it in concert.

  • This song can soften even the hardest of hearts. The music box along with his voice make it difficult to keep from getting choked up.

    : '( '

  • you go dick van dyke :):):)

  • Dick Van Dyke is my favorite actor!!! =]

  • I can't believe this made me smile, then cry...just lovely.

  • This is from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, not Mary Poppins.

  • This is my most favorite song from Chitty. It's a lovely ballad and if I had kids I'd learn the words to sing it to them. I LOVE Chitty Chitty Bang Bang so much!

  • This is such a lovely song. Reminds me of being a child.

  • dick van dyke was a talented actor.

  • I wish I could be in some sort of entertainment with him. Ben Stiller is so lucky to be in Night at the Museum with him.

  • i love dick van dyke so much, he has the most greatest calming singing voice.

i get a tear in my eye hearing this song, because his voice is so great.

i also thought he was quite a looker back int day.

    ha

  • the child catcher always made me laugh!! but I LOVE this song, and now I sing it too my son and it is the only thing that makes him sleep when he is over tired.... x x

  • I was so afraid of the child catcher when i was a child too.But this is one of my ever favorite movies.

  • I just saw this as an on-Broadway show, and it was fantastic. Very nostalgic.

  • Even though I haven't heard this song in YEARS i can remember every word.... A gentle Breeze...

  • im singing this 4 my chorus in middle skool luv it<3333

  • i really wanna get this on my ipod

but the original version i can't find anywhere :(

    little help?

  • ooh that's what i was trying to do last night =/ Go on Amazon and look for the original soundtrack, that's what I did.

  • This was the first film I ever saw at the cinema (when I was 5) and 2 things happened:

    - Robert Helpmann's performance as the child-catcher is the most terrifying thing any child will ever see (and every child should see it);

    - And Dick van Dyke's performance is the most wonderful portrayal of a father that any child could see (and every child should see it) (and one of the great voices of all time as well) so I love this song and anyone who doesn't is ...........( a fool)

  • Yeah, the child catcher scared the hell out of me.

  • @ghasgfhag yes... I was terrified of the child catcher.

  • @ghasgfhag i was also terrified of the child catcher, i used to hide behind the sofa when that bit came on!!!!

  • i love dick van dyke grew up watching him in mary poppins and chitty chitty bang bang a true star with sincerity and he also has a beautiful voice there is not as many actors of his quality in the world today we miss u come back and do more ps loved u in the museum

  • I love him singing this.

  • There's nothing creepy about it,,,,watch the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,,,watch him sing this to his kids,,,,,,,

  • it does sound creepy but i love chitty chitty bang bang x

  • Never seen "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," but Dick has good singing voice.

  • Are you joking? Never seeing chitty chitty bang bang, is like saying you never saw the rain, everyone has seen it.

  • Well, I guess I've never seen it rain then (lol).

  • you've never seen it? :O you had a deprived childhood :P

  • i think dick van dyke is the kinda guy we all want for our dad... he's basicly my favorite actor... he's a person the world wants to keep

  • this song relaxs me so much... i must say, no matter how 'creey' it sounds its beautiful, you have to admit it.

Dick Van Dyke has an amuzing singing voice ^-^

  • great song and awsome performance by the Dick Van Dyke

  • the great dick van dyke singing his masterpiece! from the 1968 movie '' chitty chitty bang bang''. some of his finest work ever. the other being his performance in ''mary poppins'' [1963].

  • Dick Van Dyke<3333

  • i looove this song,,,it puts me to sleep...

  • If I ever said I didn't have a favorite actor I'd be lying a lot....it's definitely Dick Van Dyke. Chitty and and Mary Poppins are my favorite movies he was in, mostly because of how his acting was and the characters he portrayed-carefree to the point of appearing irresponsible, but as Dick Van Dyke proves here he's a really kind and gentle person. I didn't like many sitcoms but the Dick Van Dyke Show I like a lot now...namely the walnut episode XD

    Thank you for uploading! :D

  • in love with this song.

wish a place like this mountain existed.

  • i love this song...<3

  • They don't make 'em like this anymore...

  • creepy

  • for some reason I really craved listening to this to help me fall asleep. lovely songx

  • I know it helps me get to sleep too!

I was watching a Jack Skellington version of this, and THAT made me sleep better. ILJ! (I love Jack)

  • Dick Van Dyke led a lot of us through childhood.

    Luv this guy.

  • Dick Van Dyke plays the main character in "Diagnosis Murder" an awesome TV series, he plays in "Curious George" (the new cartoon-movie) and he plays in "Night at the Museum", all newer movies. Dick Van Dyke is one of my favorite actors.

  • meghan is right. They are alive. Dick is 83. Julie is 73.

  • r they dead now?!?!?!?! i think juilie andrews is better than the connie they have now......really....nm. i used to pretend i was maria....lol.i luved it..i still sing the songs now.....aaahhhh.the gd old dayz....eh?

  • no there alive still...

  • he kinda reminds me of my grandpa :D

  • how old is he now?

  • he was born in 1925, so that makes him 83.

  • Thanks for the great compliments!

  • that was very well put together! Man, Dick Van Dyke is probabbly my favorite actor of all time!

  • Thanks! He and julie Andrews are my all-time favs!

  • That explains why you like mary poppins so much!!

  • Yeah! I know! haha!

  • Don't you wish Dick Van Dyke (and Julie Andrews) didn't get old?!! I mean I've seen both of them in recent films and they both are still some of the greatest actors out there. but you look at both of them and its sad when you know there potential and to see what they are reduced to.

  • i agree. They're great still, but can't do all the things they once could.

I'm so sad that Julie had to have surgery on her vocal chords... she can still sing though!

  • No way?!! Julie Andrews had surgery?!!

  • yeah, back in 1997 or 98 she had surgery on her throat that effected her vocal chords.

  • Wow.... she's still been in a couple of things since then, thats good. you know, singing used to be a requierment to be in a movie. now they just have a band play instead of the actors. ah the good old days...

  • she had throat cancer, didnt she? thats what my fiance told me.

  • Makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!

    Truly, truly wonderful!

  • wonderful...
