The Volvo is the perfect sleeper car. Its boxy and conservative looking. The motors have a lot of potential... and if you have ever owned one, the braking and handling are excellent. How many brands do you know that have had standard 4 wheel disc brakes since 1974?

The GT500KR is around $75k base price.

I'll help you out with this one and say this 240 was $2k.

And I'll help you out again and say this was a $10k build.

For a savings of $63k, I think this did pretty well.

Not to mention the GT500KR ran an 11.92 in 2007 at the New York International, and on top of the price of the car, you would still need to buy slicks just to lose by, give or take, 1/10th of a second to an 80's Volvo.

So I guess you make a valid point...

Well, I can't disagree with your there.

The Foxbody is probably the most popular platform for dragsters.

However the 5.0 + T5 swap is pretty popular among the RWD volvo guys, and there is a guy with a 7xx wagon that has an LS1 twin turbo T56, IIRC.

But yes, you will have a car faster than that volvo, but absolutely nowhere near as original.

I think Mustangs are boring, red neck cars myself.

I never really thought about the LS1 thing, a lot of people put 350 smallbocks GM's in their RWD Volvo's, as well as 302 Ford motors.

Ford owns Volvo now, and has since 1998.5.

So anything before that is straight Volvo, and that is all I will drive.

ford has done some good things with volvo.. i don't really get the whole GM thing.. never really a fan of anything other than John Delorean's Firebird 400 in 1968 and to be honest i like Mopar (old challenger only) and ford the best.. but its all a matter of opinion.. i think a V8 swap in a volvo will always beat a volvo engine

Yea that Mustang is a very nice and desirable model.

And as far as Ford doing good things with Volvo, it is pretty much the exact opposite.

Volvo was one the biggest helpers during the "Big 3" crisis of last year, for Ford.

Not to mention, a decent amount of Fords are on Volvo chassis, including the Five Hundred.

For motor swaps, I would argue that Volvo is better.

For practicality, economy, and reliability, turbo Volvo.

For power, and bragging rights, V8 Ford.
