  • "So often the way!"

  • Love this, stephen you can cover me in oil anyday!

  • On a slightly less intelligent note, THE CAT LICKED STEPHEN. Just. Yep. True story.

  • I like to think that the reason Stephen's character can communicate with his cat is that he's actually the Chesire Cat masquerading as a human.

  • Oh, Hugh, why do you always set yourself up to be raped by Stephen?

  • Oh lord. The hyssop. The hyssop makes all the difference in this sketch. I adore hyssop. Don't you?

  • my favorite part about this sketch is thinking of how tricky it was for the two of them. of course they are best friends, and professionals, but i can picture stephen being a bit awkward about having to flirt with hugh.

  • I bought the Fry & Laurie box set about 2 years ago.... best $80 I ever spent. My brother and I still watch the show regularly. :)

  • I have a hat that's quite a bit like the one Stephen Fry has on in this sketch. Pity I bought it for my brother...

  • Danke shoen, kroschfoenigin!

    Klothilde. It is clear now.

  • 0:48 Cutest thing EVER!

  • lmao thatcat likedhaving a cuddle with stephen. at onepoint you can see it licking his chin xD

  • I want Stephen's hat. Desperately.

  • Marry me, Hugh <3

This sketch is so freaking amazing!

  • I love this sketch. "Nigel, this is a photograph of a large jet aeroplane." "O, I'm sorry, I don't know how that got in there." Genious

  • *Giggles hystericly* So very very WRONG, but painfully hilarious, and because it's Stephen, strangely compelling... I adore QI, but I wish he had a chance to really flex his funnymuscles again!

  • I need this Ride of the Valkyrie doorbell. That would be an awesome thing to have.

  • @IcEye89 My thoughts exactly!

  • I LOVE this, Stephen is sexy BEYOND BELIEF!

  • I wish this sketch had been longer :P

  • There's just... so many lines to love in this sketch....

    I...- I can't stop watching it.... O_O

  • @ErikLeroux "There's"? Sorry, I meant "There're". Insomnia seems to have made a sad mess of my grammar.

  • Its a pastiche of quentin crisp

  • Is he calling his cat Clothtilda or Flufftilda?

  • @Phil4545 I'm not sure, but I think it's "Clawtilda".

  • @Phil4545 I believe it's Klothilde... old high german for "hlut" = strong or famous, "hilta" = fighter (and I am very sorry to admid that I've got this information from a very silly how-to-call-my-baby site...)

  • OMG that was BRILLIANT!! I was totally fooled up until they revealed it at the end... I was so shocked to find that they were really both getting it! And then shocked at the 'it started when I was four, with my Grandfather' part. This is one of my favourites now!

  • What's the meaning of ball- bouncingly? Thanks, wrennpa.

  • I dig Simbold Cleobury blue rinse.

  • My grandfather started me off

    So often the way!

    omg brilliant :D

  • It starts of like Withnail & I scene when they go and visit Monty.

  • Genius.

Clothilda will tell you stories of the gorgeous East.

  • I love it! Specially Stephen's voice.

  • " You know i think im going to give you 2 coctail cherries one for each of your blue blue eyes... " dammed i love that sentence so mutch !

  • As brilliantly slashy as this sketch is, I think this is the only time we'll ever see Stephen Fry stroke pussy.

  • when they were talking later on in the sketch Stephen Fry reminded me of Kenneth Williams

  • One of Stephen's best...and what I wouldn't give to have been that cat...!

  • Stephen is so great at portraying condescending, creepy, and plain strange people.

    I love this sketch.

  • I love the double conceit in this. The two of them apparently talking about two different things provides endless laughs, but then upon reaching the end to discover they were on the same page all the time is just genius. The best comedy writing you'll ever see.

  • Brilliant - I've been looking for this everywhere. One of my favourite sketches of all time.

  • Now, rewatch the entire sketch again, knowing the ending. ;P

  • did stephens performance remind anyone a bit of withnail and i? :)

  • It's all too easy to hear Stephen's tone in this sketch quoting something like "There can BE no TRUE beauty without decay..."

And "I shall NEVER play the Dame.... :'( "

Hehehe get the feeling there was inspiration there. Brilliant.

  • But of course! 'My dear boy'... "Balls to Monty!"

  • "It is I..."

The face Stephen does while saying that always gives me giggles in my mouth, and "SO much else beside" in this sketch, of course.

It really smells Fry's writing all over this...

    Gorgeously filthy and genius!

  • Could this be a heavily fictionalized account of their first meeting? LOL just kidding I worship these two

  • lol many a son of morroco

  • Geniuses! They need to work together again in comedy. SF recently said that they both realise the best is behind them. It can hardly get much better than this, I agree, but surely they're both still capable of writing and acting perfect comedy.

  • I love how the cat randomly disappears from Hugh's hands about 2 mins in.

  • the drink is suspiciously purplish blue.

  • I love how perfectly is matches ..."Donald's" ..."hair".

  • "Nigel this is a photograph of a large jet aeroplane." "Oh I don't know how that got in there."

    I absolutely love this stuff!

  • These guys are geniuses. xD

  • Stephen the sleazy romantic! Lol!

  • "My grandfather started me off"

    "So often the way"

haha, hugh's trying hard not to crack up at that bit.

  • "... but first I shall have you sprawled on the tigerskin firelight dancing on your naked shivering thighs..."

  • This is hilarious!!

  • One wonders how they managed not to fall over in hysterics...

  • "My grandfather started me off"

    "So often the way"

    That just kills me.

  • Come in come in come in come IN! Genius!

  • "Mercy, a natural."

  • "...that and SO much else besides."

    XD

  • It is impossible to pick a favourite clip from "A bit of fry and Laurie" they are pure genius. I love the poetry sketch which has the classic line "I don't profess to know anything about poetry, I'm an English teacher not a homosexual". Actually I think I'll see if that's on here.

  • Hugh in glasses and Fry with purple hair. LOVE!

  • xD

    Brilliant!

  • "My parents christened me Donald - a name entIIIIIIrely without hope!!"

"And they DAAARE to say, Nigel Carter, that the age of romance is dead..."

    "Sopwith? TOOOOO heavenly!!!"

    etc etc etc etc

This is my absolute FAVOURITE Fry & Laurie sketch ever. Camp genius.

  • LOL! I couldn't breathe! 'It was a Fokker.' 'It sounds it, Nigel.' 'And believe me it has caused many a son of Morroco to rise.'

  • wasn't it 'it was a cockup'?

  • just realised it wasn't...

  • A jumbo ?

    Hilarious!

  • oh my god.. this is the funniest clip ive ever seen. sooo many moments are ludicrously funny! fry looking around the street, "when he sees strange men", "i picked it up in 1963 that and so much more besides", "a camel?!", "so often the way". hahahhaha! thank you so much

  • I cannot stop watching this sketch. It has introduced many things into my life--an extension of my miniscule knowledge of the French language, oubliettes, the only English archetype I was unfamiliar with, more about hyssop than I ever wanted to know, and "much else besides".

AHHH IT'S BRILLIANT. MY FRIEND & I HAVE MEMORIZED MOST OF IT AND WE PLAN TO RECITE THE MORE DISTURBING BITS IN PUBLIC... PERPETUALLY. But if anyone can assure me of the cat's exact name, I would be infinitely greatful.

  • I believe its Clothilda

  • That was awesome. They're the best duo ever.

  • Sopwith? TOOOO heavenly.

  • I thought it was "Fluffhilda!" :) Um, is the lipsynch off when anybody else watches this? And is the cocktail supposed to match Fry's silk tie? And his hair?? Excellent sketch. Which season of Fry and Laurie is this bit from? Kara

  • "It's called a lover's seat."

No, actually, it's a tete-a-tete. Rather sad I know that.

  • also fell off my chair laughing!

  • There is no other reaction possible to this sketch! XD

  • *dies* This sketch never fails to slay me. BRILLIANT.

  • Hee! This is the best, isn't is?

  • <i>"Clothilda shall amuse you with stories of the gorgeous east."</i>

Ahahaha...i think it's the immaculate timing that makes this so naughtily funny. And Hugh's gorgeous geekiness. *squishes him*

  • Hee hee! You are right. And who wouldn't want to see Hugh's jumbo, I ask you? ;) And Stephen's. Woo hoo!

  • Genuis sketch.

I love Hugh's nerdy voice. *sigh*

  • Indeed...there is something impossibly noble and thrillingly rotten, don't you think? :)

  • I love how Fluffilda just kind of...disappears. hahaha

  • Yep, I noticed that, too. :)

  • Haha... Brilliant! Please post more clips from season 3 :)

  • I will see what I can do! Glad you enjoyed.

This sketch is the best of the entire 4 series if you ask me. (Which is hard for me to say because I ADORE Tony and Control!)

  • "...firelight dancing on your naked shivering thighs!"

  • Hee! How slashy can you get? ;)
