Having a bike is better than depending on a car in most cases (except when the weather is bad of course). Unfortunately since this is Memphis, then bikes get stolen all the time. Happened to me while attending U of M. Most Memphis drivers are dumb and drive with their heads up their arses. It was always so risky biking around town most of the time. I had to give it up. :(
@hvislysettaros2010 Bikes that are properly locked up don't get stolen. Every big city has that issue but if you don't use the right security then it's going to happen to you wherever. Same with the drivers. Be cautious, but you shouldn't let them scare you off the road. The more bike riders they see they more they will have to accept that cyclists have a right to the road as well.
@Valibus I had just gotten the bike, so I had not enough time yet to invest in a U lock (?) or whatever the best lock was at the time. My friend had one and his bike was never stolen. It is better to ride a bike in the county. Still drivers have the same attitudes 'get the F off the road idiot!' So our bike never leaves the room. It is a plain exercise bike ^^
