Cool! Very encouraging as had a siomilar idea this week and bought a 2nd hand webcam for £2.99p to try out. Would Ineed a good telescope or would a small basic one do? Great music too thanks!
I decided to use a webcam so I bought one. When I put it in the focus rack, all I can see is the secondary mirror with the primary mirror reflection. ( It is a 114mm/1000 Newt reflector) I then heard to insert a 2x barlow lens, so I did.....this made the mirrors look zoomed out even more than before. What shall i do ? Can someone recomed help to me? and recomend a good/decent not too fancy webcam under £15.
hi, great vid, i am thinking of getting a decent telescope, a budget of around £400 could you give me any good recommendations please? I have looked into buying a web cam type adapter and found one for around £65 but would probably end up making an adapter from my logitec web cam. I have seen some telescopes that have the auto track system with them which is what i am aiming at, so what make and model could you suggest? any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks
Great music! Thanks for posting your experiment. It's this type of trial/error we all need to shoot for. How else can we keep our budget low and our excitement high?
My webcam is an Xbox 360, usb, connected to an old Mac iBook G4. Looking forward to seeing how well it works with my 10" Dob. I'll probably use the Skype pref. window to view it for now till I learn what it can handle.
Anyone else modifying and getting good views, please post! Peace!
@Musick665 anyone seeing the wierd flashes on the moon not this video through your telescopes check sector b-1 if you know them :) let me know what you see cause im only an amatur and i cant find an explanation ive seen this event like clock work on the last day of the month for the last 3 months since i brought my scope ive also had somone who knows alot more about this then i look at it and he is as puzzled as me anyway i dont think its aliens or somthing like that man made 3 flashes per min
@rhemity There have been flashes on the moon observed for around the last 400 years, No-one really knows what causes it but the best guess is gasses being released through the lunar surface.
You're very lucky to have spotted it and I'm a little bit envious.
I've been watching the moon through my 10" newtonian for ages and have never seen one....bummer.
Let me know if you see any more and I'll join in the hunt from Australia.
@frodnew1 i have a logitech web cam and with the motion sensing software download that you can download for it , you can use it with your telescope as an extreamly long range sensor yoiur pc will automaticly snap pictures of what comes into view , like ufos etc , just set it and forget it
@ParaglidingManiac how clear do you see the galaxies? do you see them the way they are or only as points of lights?and how much did you spent on your telefscope?I want to buy one but I have only 150 euro budget.expandable to max 200 :D
It's always surprising how fast the moon moves when one zooms in on it with a stationary camera. Cool concept, it would be awesome if the results would be a bit sharper, but it's just a webcam and it looks incredible for that.

correct, there is no eyepiece
Musick665 1 year ago
@Musick665 so then you just zoom in using the software?
animedrawer84 1 year ago
a moon filter and a auto focuser could have made the image sharper. but a good shot nonetheless.

Nicely done! Doesn't compare to what you'd see at the eyepiece, but a nice cheap way to get video, I like it.
What's the music choice, btw? Dig the tune.
