What happens if u dont have a skillet or cast iron pan? Can I just put them in a frying pan? I really want to make these but dont have the right tools~! Figures, right? lol... Thanks for another wonderful recipe --Angie
@Monicasdestiny That Noreen! She's a good woman! Thanks for checking out my channel. I hope you find lots of information that will be useful to you. Welcome.
I wasn't ever planning on a having a channel or commenting. I just wanted to learn as much as possible. But.... I have learned so much from you and several others that I wanted to give a great big "Thank You"! You are making a difference & I wanted you to know.
The tortillas look delicious, as a matter of fact the whole meal looks delicious. There is nothing like a warm fresh tortilla,. Thank you for the nice meal idea.
First I learned how to make English muffins from you, now I can add flour tortillas to my culinary repetoire! Thanks so much Mrs Kradul. Questions for ya: Will these work with Masa flour AND have you ever taken these (or some made with cornmeal maybe) and made your own tortilla chips? My husband LOVES tortilla chips and I hate buying the expensive things.
@Michigansnowpony You could add some masa to your flour tortillas if you like. If you want to make tortilla chips, you need to start with a corn tortilla which is made from just masa and water. I REALLY recommend you invest in a tortilla press if your plan to make corn tortillas. You then cook them in a cast iron skillet, let cool, cut into quarters, and deep fry. Once you do this, you'll never complain about buying store made chips again! lol I hate the hassle of dealing with deep frying.
Hi katzcradul, I'm a fairly new subscriber (sent you a PM a couple of weeks ago as to how I found you and thanking you!) I made these tortillas tonight with a modified recipe I got from 255sage and I'm sold forever!! So easy, delicious and way better than prepackaged tortillas! Thanks again!
@armywifeprepper Thanks for your kind words. Sometimes I feel like she's from Mars! She a sharp cookie. She skipped 2nd grade and was supposed to skip 4th but I wouldn't let them push her up. She attends public school & also participates in an online school for gifted students through a prestegious university. She reads at a college level & will take the ACT next month. However, I'm most pleased that she's a nice person. Her dad and I are from the south so she gets a lot of 'home trainin'.
Hey Kat, Your tortillas look alot better than the 2 pkg'sof 10 each I just bought from Sam's Club. The Ole' brand was a 2 for $4.38. That's right almost .22 each. I noticed your's didn't have the leather texture mine had, nor did it have all the bonus ingredients either like: hydrogenated soybean (yum), distilled mono and diglycerides ( both glycerides oh yeah baby) and for my favorite ingredient calcium propianate. The bag it came in will last 700 more years. Do you have a steak sauce recipe.
@katzcradul Hey Kat, I was just refering to the leather tortillas that I bought and how tender yours were looking when you making them. I wanted to eat my tortillas with steak sauce because they were very tough. Your video on how to make them is the way for me from here on out. Sorry for any confusion.
@res401 OMG! You just cracked me up!!! I was so tired when I got in from school and read your message, that I didn't 'get it'...now I do and it strudk me funny! But hey! I was trying really hard to be accomodating,...wasn't I ? LOL Thanks for writing back.
Thank you so very much, I just tried this and they turned out wonderful, for me that is a Miracle! I love your channel, thank you for thinking about us!
Love your enamel bowl! I have a couple, and will have to get them out of storage to use! I am making tortillas for the first time this next week--I think i will use your recipe. BRRRRRR--it is definately soup weather in MO.
@stayingawake20 Hey! Thanks a lot! I thought I was a 'gonner' there for a couple of days. Dang YouTube. Actually it made me very angry...and then very sad. I couldn't even answer pm's or anything. I felt like I was in a box made of one way mirrors. I could see you all...what you were doing...what you were saying, etc...but you couldn't see me. Very frustrating. It's good to be in the game again. The sidlines are no fun.
Oh my gosh....I was going to throw out my tortilla press, because I didn't like the thickness....I never thought of rolling them out like you did....Thank you so much for sharing....
Can't wait to try. Canned butter and have dehydrated everything in the house. New to the prepper movement. Grew up prepping but didn't call it that it was just country. Thanks for your hard work.
PrepperA, have you ever tried butter with jelly or jam?..ohh to die for! :)
My recipe exactly! only I have never had a press. One of my Mexican neighbors, mother of 8, taught me..except she made like..? 2 doz? it was her//their bread. I use it..as bread. Great video! so glad to see you back, missed you! ~Woodsy~
I can't count how many times I've made flour tortillas, but I've never used a press with them. I thought only corn tortillas would work in the press!! Thanks so much for showing me that I was wrong! Can't wait to try it. Also, I love Prepper A. You have a very smart girl there! I always love to hear her thoughts!
I haven't made tortilla's since I was a kid and hung out at my Mexican friend's house. Bringing back memories and a renewed desire to make some tortillas myself. No better tortilla than home-made. Thanks!
Thanks so much for tortilla recipe.. I have wanted to try some for a longtime and will be great to know how to do. I went to cut and paste your recipe and noticed there wasn't any shortening in the recipe..I just watched it again for the amount.. Thanks again!
@leighannmauk Thanks! My green dishes are called 'Jadite'. Many people loosely refer to them as 'Fire King'. They were made in the 20's and 30's. I began collecting them years ago when I could pick individual pieces up from garage sales and flea markets for just a few bucks. Unfortunately, Martha Stewart loves them too and displayed them in her kitchen on her television show. The price went out the roof. My mother and grandmother both collected these dishes. We use them every day.
Wow katzdual-that really looks good. I have never made them from scratch, but will give it a try. I think because you were raised in Texas you probaby learned how to make these wonderful regional dishes. Here in Michigan I never saw anybody do that. Thanks for the great video.
@hollys493 There is a chain of Mexican restaurnts in Houston, Texas called Ninfa's. They make the best tortilla I've ever tasted. Great stuff! I haven't tried the potato soup yet, but we were planning on using it next week. I have a half a mind to go and get the other two soups that they offer in this size just to see what they are like. I have been wanting to make some flour tortilla as well. Just one of those things for the winter that I love. Soup and bread is a great way to make the budget stretch. Thanks for sharing this one. Noreen : )
